I feel as though not only Navi died in a sort of Charlotte's Web ending... but I feel Link sort of knew, but couldn't accept it until the end of Majora's Mask with the Skull Kid also losing his friends. I think Link saw that if he let the losses of Ocarina of Time affect him in that way, he would become something dangerous. Heck, maybe that Fierce Deity / Oni (Demon) was the reflection of himself. He lost his childhood, he lost his adulthood, he lost his friends, he lost his purpse. The journey of Majora's Mask wasn't his own death, it was his maturity. To become the hero Shade, he had to first accept the dark, and become the light. It might be fitting for him to wear that Fierce Deity mask at the end, because that could symbolize him directing his rage to protect those that he grew an attachment to during his journey. Anyway, I'm getting side tracked. TL;DR, I feel Navi died, Link didn't accept it, and the journey and themes of Majora's Mask were in a way him learning to accept that loss much like the Skullkid.

I think the answer is pretty simple. Link was never supposed to have a fairy companion, as he is a Hylian. At the end of the game, Zelda sends him back in time to relive the 7 years he lost sleeping in the sacred realm, but now he knows he is not one of the Kokiri, and thus he doesn't return to live in the forest anymore. Navi returned home to the Kokiri woods, while link most likely stayed with young Zelda, and together they warned everyone about Ganondorf in the past before he could open the sacred realm. Link eventually misses Navi, goes to find her, and that is when he gets lost in the woods as without Navi's help he never makes it back to the Kokiri forest.

Something to note is that she flies straight up to the Twilight Princess Temple of Time entrance. TP also takes place in the child timeline. It's a major stretch but she might have been an incarnation of the Goddess of Time. The whole plot of Majora has that Goddess watching over Link. He may have found her, helped her soul heal, and then via the words of the Happy Mask salesman realized that sometimes friends leave but it's never forever, just a short time.
@redwidow13584 жыл бұрын
Not an incarnation, but Hylia creates fairies for the sole purpose of aiding Link. When they serve their purpose, they fade into dust and die. They do it all the time when they heal you, but Navi's purpose was to guide you through killing Ganon. Only once you put the sword back into its pedestal are you really done, since you've been sent back in time to live out your regular life. When she flies into the window and just disappears, it isn't like she goes through it or anything. There's glass there. I believe, it is pretty clear that Navi died on her way out of the Temple of a Time....she was trailing light spots or pixie dust or whatever behind herself on her way out....during the entire game, she did not trail anything behind her...in fact, the only times any fairy is shown to have a light trail is when they are dieing in the process of healing the hero...and in that one scene at the end of Navi. Even healing fairies don't have a trail while just floating about, only after being put to work. The most likely reason for Navi leaving the Temple would be to spare Link the pain of watching his friend die. Navi had no idea that Termina even existed....and in spite of what the Word of God is...i still agree with the MatPack theory that Termina is the Hylian Underworld, where the dead reside. Does not necessary mean that Link died to get there....all across ancient mythology, you have heroes enter the Underworld for three days for a quest...and not in all stories do they have to die to get there....Heracles and Inana are just two examples...mythology is full of heroes or saviours or half-gods go to the land of the dead, or some other form of exile/place of isolation/underground/whatever, some by finding a portal, some by being cast/thrown there, rarely by dieing.....and they always return after three days (Samson - Roman dungeon, Jacob (I think...may have been Josef) - tossed into a well, Jonah - belly of a whale, Daniel - lion pit, Jesus - actually died, Heracles/Hercules - marched into Hades, Inana - travelled the underworld, Izanami - travelled the underworld,...), three weeks (Amaterasu - hid in a cave to pout, Soun Goku - astral projection), three months (Cassiopeia - every year, as the bride of Hades) or three years (Odin - twice, once chained to Yggdrasil, once in the Odensleep). So, Nintendo's statement that Link did not die in MM does not prove that Termina is not the Underworld. Hate me all you like for my believes, I don't care.
@StarlasAiko4 жыл бұрын
Regular Slime and why would link not be able to bring items from the underworld back to the living world? Unlike reality, in mythology the land of the dead is an actual location. In Greek mythology, the only reason the dead don't return from Hades is the guard dog Cerberus, preventing people and items from leaving. It is not Cerberus' purpose to keep people out, only to keep them in. Without that guard dog, the dead would be easily able to return. In some mythologies, there is no guardian, making sure the dead don't return, but the dead need a living guide to find their way back (Inana; Izanami). And there has never been anything in any of the mythologies saying, the living hero can't bring back items form the underworld. I believe, there even was a Greek hero who had the task of retreating an item from Hades (not hundred percent sure, though). As for Skullkid and the fairies being able to get out, Skullkid is an undead and the fairies are spirits. Of course, they can traverse an unguarded threshold.
@allterraincapybara67495 жыл бұрын
I've heard that the reason Navi left link is because fairies belong to the forest children, and because of the time travel and the experiences Link went through, even though he regained the body of a child, he was no longer one in spirit. Because of that, Navi could no longer be with Link and left him because he'd grown up.

@@THEGREATMAX i dont agree with that theory. Hyrule historia has confirmed the hero's shade in twilight princess is the hero of time. Which means the Link from twilight princess is his descendant. For that to have happened, he mustve gotten older and married with someone. So I dont buy it.

@@THEGREATMAX Well, except for the part where he leaves Termina alive lol It sort of breaks that old theory. But it is easy to say that she died. Whether it's healing Link or killing Ganon, when it's done, it's done.
@cioplasmmajic83275 жыл бұрын
Interesting theory, but I feel that it takes a few too many leaps. When you enter a fairy fountain, you can have all the fairies heal you, then leave and come back right away, and there are just as many fairies as before. Rather than death, it seems more likely that they use up some of their power and loose the glow that lets you see them easily. Otherwise fairies would need to be born/created at an insane rate to keep up with "demand".
@adventureoflinkmk25 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Also what about all the fairies dedicated to healing Link and/or giving him powers? What, do they go back in their fountain to recharge or is it a all new fairy that takes her place?

Here's my Navi theory; We know from early game footage that originally the Triforce was going to be an obtainable item and in the final game Rauru says it was housed within the Temple of Light, which itself exists in the Sacred Realm, which is accessed by pulling the Master Sword out of it's pedestal in the Temple of Time. Allegedly the Temple of Light was supposed to be an actual dungeon you got to play through which ended up being cut from the game. It makes perfect sense in a version of the story close to Ocarina's final release, as Rauru's Light Medallion is the only one the game gives you for free without having to defeat a boss. But it also makes sense for an older version of the story where instead of a Medallion you obtained the Triforce. Often when dungeons get cut the ideas are reused in later games, and in Twilight Princess this appears to have happened with the Temple of Light. You enter it by going into the Temple of Time and putting the Master Sword in the pedestal (which has no reason to hold you in suspended animation because you're already an adult) at which point a staircase appears which leads you into into a dungeon that appears to exist on another plane and which bears the symbol of the Light Medallion. In this case it really comes across like this dungeon wasn't just a few puzzles or a theme or aesthetic that could've been implemented anywhere in any game after it got cut from Ocarina. It seems like it's just straight up the original vision fully realized. The temple you go to in Twilight Princess wasn't just a retcon they pretended was always there, it genuinely was intended to exist while Ocarina was in development but due to time constraints couldn't be shown. If this is true, Navi didn't just fly through a window and disappear at the end of Ocarina, she flew through the very same window that Link walks through in Twilight Princess to enter what is most likely the Sacred Realm and the Temple of Light within it. Why does Navi go there? Because that's where Navi was created. Navi is a divinely created spirit made specifically to help Link, gifted with an encyclopedic knowledge of every monster in the world, just like Fi. In fact, she may even be Fi reborn.

Something I noticed about fairies is that they probably don't die when they have sparkles around them, but maybe when they heal Link. Since in some artwork you can see fairies (the ones you can catch in bottles) have a trail of sparkles leading from their magic wands. It's either they die after using up their magic to heal Link or they get whisked away. If Navi was dying at the end of OOT then maybe it was symbolizing Navi healing Link's brain from the trauma she has caused him from being so talkative

I generally like to believe the idea of her having a purpose and having to die after said purpose, however my mind always comes back to Tatl and Tael when thinking of this. What would their purpose be? They aren't originally with Skull Kid, rather they find him and become friends, and they are even separated over the game. Unless it's different in Termina, this'd personally lead me to believe that the "purpose" thing doesn't necessarily apply.

Theory idea: What is the true origin of Koume and Kotake? This seems to be one question without an answer. @nintendoblackcrisis
@archmdc3705 жыл бұрын
@Zachary Erickson Yes, they are Gerudo. In Ocarina of Time, we know that they are 400-year-old witch twin sisters, who can merge to form Twin Rova. They are the surrogate mothers who helped raise and teach Ganondorf magic/sorcery. We do not know who Ganondorf's biological parents were but he was instantly made King of the Gerudo ("thieves") based on his gender as a male in 100 years. We know Koume and Kotake were loyal servants to Ganondorf's mission and against the Hero of Time and also against the Hero of Legend in the Oracle games when they attempt to resurrect their surrogate son. Beyond that, they appear as non-threatening NPCs in "Majora's Mask" and, technically, at least one of them are in "A Link To the Past" and even they were even on Koholint Island in "Link's Awakening". While I understand they are seemingly NPCs to fill in the story, we do not know where they originate from and we know they do die after Link defeats them in the Spirit Temple, but strangely they show up in the Downfall Line in Holodrum (of course these games were made by Capcom and not Nintendo directly, so they're technically not canon). They would also have been defeated and dead since the time line split occurred when the Hero of Time gets defeated by Ganon (but o suppose any point in time he could die and that could lead to the Downfall Line and the twins could be alive still..... So, unless they were resurrected or actually dead and trying to raise their "son" from the dead by the dead, then they shouldn't be in the Downfall Line. Also, if they were alive, they would be close to probably between 600-1000 years old (assuming they are the same incarnations). We see them in Termina as alternative characters not the same. We never see them in the Child Timeline either way, though, even though they would be alive still since Link never helped awaken sages and never would have battled the witches in the future. In the Adult Timeline they are dead and never show up again. So, that's as much as I know about them. Where did they come from? Whose descendants are they? What did they do in the Gerudo Desert/people before Ganondorf's birth? Where did they learn/obtain magic? Are they connected to Demise? Were they awaiting Demise's prophecy (incarnation) to come to pass (Ganondorf's birth). They would have definitely seen more than just one male child born in Gerudo Village.

@Zachary Erickson That raises an excellent point. Though, I am guessing this would have been magically done if option two. In fact, for example, the series "Charmed" actually has the Seer transfer the incarnation son of the Source from Phoebe into her own demonic womb. If it was Twinrova (combined sisters) with a natural conception, then they would be more powerful together to pass on such genetics not to mention Demise's malice would be incarnated. Something else I found: Ganondorf: Ganon is actually an Irish name, meaning "descendant of the fair-haired man, fair-skinned, white, fair" (info found here: www.ign.com/boards/threads/origin-of-zelda-character-place-names-explained-in-here.186595417/) With that said, it may be assumed, if taken literally, that Ganondorf's father would have been Hylian.... Interesting old conversation here: www.reddit.com/r/truezelda/comments/6rv8oy/who_was_ganondorfs_father/ Gameover Jesse also theorized that Groose was the start of the Gerudo and relative to Ganondorf: www.zeldadungeon.net/grooses-accursed-connection-to-ganondorf-and-gerudo-history/ Anyhow, I'm still more interested in where did they come from? Groose's children? Groose was definitely fair-haired and skinned.
@archmdc3705 жыл бұрын
@Zachary Erickson Good point. So regional adaptation/evolution of the desert certainly makes sense. Amazonian-like race with a make born every hundred years...that seems like either a curse or something magically imposed to stop males from being born. Also, maybe there was something more to the goddess of the sands, who may not have been originally Hylia. I don't know.
@archmdc3705 жыл бұрын
@Zachary Erickson Zachary, this is highly fascinating and makes me wonder what is going on within the Hyrulian universe. This gives a whole new meaning to interracial genetics and expansion of the gene pool...but a single gender gene being passed on makes this very unique. Yes, I would agree a male in this case would be a mutation based on the mixed genetics.

@redwidow13584 жыл бұрын
Fairies don't serve the Deku Tree, they only live within his safety in the forest (and fountains of sacred origin). There's no reason to assume Navi went back to the forest, because it's more evident that she died. All fairies do after their purpose is served, that's exactly why the Goddess makes them.

I don't think that fairies die after a request/goal. They could be offer their life to heal the hero though. If that was the case, then Tael would have died after being reunited with Tatl I think Navi went to do a set task given to her by the Deku Tree if he had died ( which he did ) Thinking about the Twilight Princess, a fragment of the Fused Shadow was given to the Deku Tree or deku tree lines,) and Navi probably knew about it since she was the Tree's partner before Link. It could be that she was thinking ahead, and wanted the Deku sprout to appear quicker, so that the "baddies" will not populate the kokiri forest and take over for the fused shadow ( or just because they can.) Could also be that Navi was a candidate to become a great fairy as well. If you think about it, The Great Fairies were placed at the top of Death Mountain, in the Zora Fountain, between the Temple of Time & Hyrule Castle, and even in the Gerudo Desert area to protect big landmarks. Lake Hylia probably had Naydra, the ice dragon that dies in the future, and there is 2 Great Fairies in death mountain, probably because Volvagia was dead. But the Kokiri Forrest, had none. There is a regular fairy fountain there. Maybe it was one of the points where one should have been appointed Perhaps Navi went to take that position. Coule also be a possibility of there being one inside of the Deku Tree behind those bars, but I dunno. Another thing to point out is what the Happy Mask Salesman says at the end of Majora's Mask, "Shouldn't you be returning home as well? Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However, that parting need not last forever... Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time... That is up to you." Could be that the Happy Mask Salesman is a scout of sorts ( probably once was part of Demise's Army as a scout ) And saw Navi from the Forrest ( and knew Navi from seeing Link in the Happy Mask Shop ) What if he knew why Link was in the Forrest, and gave him this answer after Link did him the favor of returning the mask ( although he destroyed the Interloper's magic from the mask ) Ah. I love Nintendo, and LOZ. Atleast I know that for sure! :P

Maybe he had to go to Termina to grieve not only Navi, but his life as a revered hero. He had to let go, so that he could fulfill his new destiny in this timeline which was to secretly set the stage for the counter attack against ganondorf's return in the future i.e. contact the light spirits, leave them his tunic, give his bow to the goron. All of this, to ensure his descendant's victory which required him to give up on the idea that he was the one to defeat ganon in this timeline... Or you know, something along those lines

@Jmnzz4 жыл бұрын
Saw this theory from Game Theorists and thought it was a good explanation but hearing the stuff you added and remembering Tatl from Majroa's mask I think the "navi died" theory doesn't wash. Because of Tatl. Tatl doesn't die. She has a *brother,* Tael and it seems as if they had been living their own lives before meeting the Skull kid and then chose to befriend and stick with him. Then Tatl decides on her own to follow and assist Link and when he is done, returns to her brother and they both decide to stay with Skull kid. I know they are from Termina, which is different than Hyrule but other faeries in Termina function the same way they do in Hyrule soooo yeah Navi didn't die. Don't know what happened. Probably won't ever know. And it is a good explanation for why she couldn't be found but...considering the circumstances it just doesn't make sense. Don't know what she flew off to but I don't think she vanished. Saria's fairy could have just flew off somewhere after Saria died/became a sage. We all know Nintendo creators put game first and narrative as an afterthought so I think Navi flying off was just another "up to your own interpretation" type of situation. Which is good because I REFUSE TO BELIEVE SHE IS DEAD 😭😭😭😅
@OmoiSenpai4 жыл бұрын
Navi used her fairy soul to revive the deku tree back into a seed, which then sprouts 7 years later. 😋
@whartonbuildersinc31244 жыл бұрын
Kokiri forest is translated as spirit forest. The children there were dead spirits. The Lost Woods and such, is the land of the dead, it's kinda part of Termina. Link has a fairy because he was raised by the dead. Saria was a like Link. She had to be brought there while still alive. Otherwise she couldn't leave, or become a sage. The Kokiri sword means Spirit Sword. Link wears clothes of the dead. He's light on his feet and fast. Link is the undead, sort of. His mother carried him there while mortally wounded, that's how she entered the forest to begin with. He's the result of dark Sheikhah/Gerudo style magic. There's a deeper connection between Skullkid and Link than anyone has come to realize. Also why Saria had an Ocarina to begin with. Only two in the game? She had the Spirit Ocarina. As in Spirit and Shadow temple. The Lake of Hylia is Links final resting place, but why? So you're on the right track. The hero of OoT is technically immortal, because of the Borromean ring, and the way it works as a split Ouroboros. By his actions, and that's why Navi was able to leave the forest with link. Fairy Fountains are grave sites BTW. Involving water, to reference Hylia. It's a Shinto thing. So Navi was trying to free Link from deaths grasp in the cycle of recursive time breaks, and break the ring. However Zelda, essentially curses Link and Hyrule by forcing Link back into that cycle. If she hadn't done that it would have ended n there. But Link ventures back into the land of the dead to find Navi. Fairies don't die, they return to the other place. So I wonder if Skullkid and Link are the same somehow. Saria was like Link. He wasn't fully dead, or he would be a Kokiri. He wasn't alive either. He's extremely similar to Link. I think he's an Incarnation of whatever Ganon comes from possibly. Not sure though. All I can say for sure is that Lake Hylia is Link's final resting place, but that he's basically undead throughout the entire game, not just one specific occurrence. It's actually necessary for him to be, for him to also be reincarnated as himself throughout the serious. Again folks need to understand the Witches in this game to understand that my information is Canon. Impa's Sheikhah family, the Witches, the Oldman and Oldwoman characters, have all been canonically identified as having a blood connection to the Village Elders, and the King of Hyrule. The more you read, the more you'll realize that almost ever character in the series is blood related to Princess Zelda, and the goddess Hylia. Including Ganondorf Dragmire himself.
@labelledamedumanor48764 жыл бұрын
Skull Kid & Link connected? Maybe they are related & Skull Kid couldn't be the hero Hyrule needed but could still provide the much needed help when needed. Besides, if the Koroks in Wind Waker & Breath of the Wild are evolved Kokiri, perhaps the Skull Kids are the inbetween form.
@solesurvivor55 жыл бұрын
That quote from Fado, doesnt she originally say that outsiders die in the lost wood, rather than get lost. Like you said in the video, maybe it works in reverse for fairies and they can only survive outside outside the woods when given a leave of absence. Either way, remember that Zelda sent Link back to "regain his lost time". Well Link chose to use this second chance to warn the King of Hyrule of Ganon's deceit. Since Link still had the Triforce of courage he didn't need Navy to prove he was a messenger of the goddesses, but they meant to meet up afterward, since it seemed that Link had also chosen to see what was beyond the borders of Hyrule. But here is the kicker: when Navy left, she went through the window overlooking the pedestal, which was in reality and passageway that led deeper into the temple, perhaps she suffered a terrible fate in there.
