Being in a studio now, I had a hard time continuing to draw because I put to much effort in the work and was kind of digusted by this passion which turned to job. I recently tried to paint personnal stuff again, and it's very true that "the more you do it, the more you want to do it, progress is addictive". Very discouraging at the beginning, but it's now becoming rewarding. Thank you for your video sir. And to everyone, don't give up, struggling make you stronger

I feel that for sure, especially if things are not going well at work it can really sap your strength and sort of taint the process overall. Resetting, and recharging are definitely needed sometimes. I'm glad you are finding joy in it again :) Thanks for commenting

Awesome stuff, Grady! The small mention of staying physically healthy is something very important; as I am trying as hard as I can to keep making art; I was predominantly left handed in writing; drawing, (art); then I had a stroke; which left my entire left side paralyzed. So, now I’m forced to use my right hand to make art. It’s awkward to say the least; so whoever might see this comment; take care of your health! And thanks Grady; you’ve given me a confidence boost!😁👍🏻👊🏻

Oh wow, I'm really sorry to hear that... this is a testament to perseverance, and it's very cool that you are still making art. While I can imagine how very awkward it is to create things with your right hand, maybe it will end up defining your work in a new way. I hope you continue :) Thanks for this comment

Brother, thank you so much for making these videos. I’m 32 years old, never learned anything but wanted to be good at drawing for a long time. A while ago I decided that if everything else has failed, I could just do this and now I’m trying. Your comments on frustration and especially those on self-discipline ring with me and I wanna thank you for your words of encouragement and the humble and compassionate attitude you display. I have also watched your real-time video and wanted to say that I would absolutely love to see you do one on your sketching process, as this is where I am now and I don’t feel I can ever come to a point where I‘m happy enough with a sketch to even attempt a colorised version. If you ever decide to make paid course videos, I‘ll buy them. Lots of love for you and your family.

The external noise is such a big factor in life right now. It feels like you're trying to play your own tune among a gigantic orchestra. That said, you're hitting some nails on the head in this video. Thank you for reflecting on the issues you mentioned. It's something I'm dealing with regularly.

I’m really glad you enjoyed your visit here to Scotland. We had an absolute shocker for rain this year in particular, but I guess if you came looking for atmosphere, you probably got it in abundance. Anyway, just wanted to take the opportunity whilst your channel is relatively small to say thanks for taking the time to make and share these videos. I’ve been caught up in the rat race with a young family and work lately. Your content came at just the right time to inspire me back into illustration. Your art really resonates, and I wish you every success my man.

I really appreciate this videos in so many ways. I felt so lost as a student of concept art: the grind to be perfect and my two-year deep depression made me feel like I had lost everything, lost that spark I had when drawing. I hated art so much. But I’ve been trying to draw in spite of that and I can finally see the confidence past the initial discouragement. I haven’t lost any of my skills. This video really changed my life and my perspective. Thank you.

I'm so glad you shared this as I think it is more common than most people think. I myself have been in very dark places feeling as though I don't offer anything worthwhile, but it is amazing what persistence can do. Building on your weakpoints will develop confidence slowly but surely and that confidence will impact so many aspects of your life and your pursuits. It's about finding the parts you love and trying to expand on those. Thankyou again, and I wish you the very best :)

Damn, the points you make and the way you make them really resonate with me. I have to be honest, I haven't even watched the video, I put it on to have in the background whilst I draw. But I got all the way through to the end having listened intently. To me that's really a testament to how inciteful and relaxing you are whilst you speak. I am loving the content you're putting out at the moment, it's very inspiring. Now I'll watch the video again, but this time for the fantastic art!

Hey man, I really appreciate your videos. Especially this one. I recently started on a similar personal-work path. Totally relate to everything you're saying; it's nice to hear someone talking about it in the way that you are. You're "environment Concept Art - Frell" video was a big inspiration for me to start making my own videos, and your talks in this one just furthers the personal-work and video making inspiration. Keep sharing the honest thoughts and fantastic art, and you'll always keep us coming back for more. Great work.

I relate to this a lot, Thank you for bringing the words I quite couldn't put together myself. I'm still struggling to figure out what exactly personal work "is" for me, Im not really sure what I want to make or draw, so Im usually just doing small studies on my free times. If you have any thoughts on how to find those personal things I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you once again! God bless you.

I have notes for a video about learning what you like, finding inspiration and creating basic story structures/guides for personal projects which I hope will be helpful :) But studying and creating things loosely in a sketchbook is a great start. Finding subject matter that appeals to you, and then finding those nice shapes and forms that feel really good to draw. Thanks for watching :D

Reall loved this one! Visually and in terms of content. I think you radiate calmness and vulnerability and always have a lot of thoughts that resonate with me. With your last video - I like the way it's presented. Kind of like an essay or meditative talk. What I personally would like more is if you used real time snippets. Especially when I want to concentrate on what you're saying, but at the same time want to see what you're creating artistically, it's hard for me to follow the fast pingpong on the screen. I hope its ok, to gove this kind of feedback feedback. Thank you for your effort and videos! They always make my days better (:
