The Discovery of Chola Murals

In 1931, a history professor decided to explore a narrow corridor on the 1st floor of the Brihadisvara temple. There, under a layer of 300 year old Nayak murals, he accidentally discovered Chola frescoes that were over 1000 years old!

So we are still deprived of having a detailed chapter on ancient Southern Indian murals in our texts!! While mughal paintings are stuffed down our throat. Blessings from the North, I will source information regarding these paintings and read and teach as extra class to my senior college students ❤❤

@1:27 The depiction is not of Raja Raja Chozan and Karuvurar Siddhar... do some research before you post and claim something.

@@K_S_Sharan 1. The guru of Raja Raja was karuva Siva Pandithar who name is etched in the temple. 2. Karuvurar was not the mentor of Raja Raja.. no inscriptions have been found anywhere to support that claim. 3.Karuvarar was present after the death of Raja Raja. 4. All depictions of Raja Raja will have two feet on his head.. known as Siva patham… another name of Raja Raja Siva Patha shekaran. 5. The only remaining painting of Raja Raja could be found in Thanjai periya Kovil along with his three wives, this painting is on the east wall facing the magnificent gopuram. He is depicted With a Huge Moustache and folded hands, praying to Thillai Natarajar. 6. Raja Raja was very modest without any jewellery.. but the painting depicts something else. 7. Karuvurar was alive during Raja Raja’s reign but he was a mentor to his son Rajendra Chozan.
