The British and to a lesser extent the Portuguese colonizations left a permanent influence on our language, attire, methods and laws however apparently the Dutch hardly left anything behind of this sort despite their presence of 2 centuries.

Its still a belief today for some specific hindu families. Crossing the ocean seems to be the issue, vs land routes. I have worked with engineers not willing to leave india for business trips. Obviously its not all hindus as many historic hindu characters (ex Swami Vivekananda) travelled overseas.

At the battle of Flores, the British captain Sir Walter Raleigh (of potato fame) captured the Portuguese Carrick Madre de Deus that contained a vast amount of precious cargo and a Rutter or log book that was written in Macau in 1590. This had details about who to deal with in Japan China and Indonesia. It set off the race of the British to get to the spice islands. At that time there was much more interest in Indonesia and Japan, which the Dutch ended up dominating, leaving India to the British

Here Mariamman is disclosed as the goddess of rain. But the goddess herself may not be just a local goddess. The people travelled from places to places in search of water and rain as the climates changed in different ages and thus they took their gods everywhere they went. The sacrifical rituals performed by the locals to please these gods may out from the selfish brains of the priests and tantriks who advised people to make such sacrifices. Why would god be pleased by sacrifice of an innocent animal? Who are ultimately going to be benefitted by the sacrifices and donations people make? Another interesting point is that Buffalo an animal which is considered as mount of the Marathi village goddess Mariaai and gets worshipped as Mhasoba. That means it was the same pareidolia which caused some people to think the animal as carrier (Vahana) of the goddess while some other groups thought that the Goddess was standing over it after killing it (Mahishasura).

Not too many sites ? Reason could be simple and common sense Settlements are found if they have been abandoned - then those areas are left as is amd get preserved by sand covering them But if there are regions which have been continuously habitated amd never been abandoned example the rich green regions of southern Indians where continuous civilization evolved from 10000-14000 years so the structures ancient cities redevelop and mordernize through ages so you may not be able t fund too many abindoned cities As.people continuously habitat these regions without ever leaving

I think they have been given more credit than they deserve. It's their atrocities that have been glossed over. There have been many Jalianwala Baughs in India but our history only talks about that 1 Jalianwala Bagh. But one thing I will admit, the Britishers did contribute in rediscovering our culture and ancient history. But again they were the ones who converted our super ancient history to mythology
@nitinchalla7826 күн бұрын
@@sriramr2437 look at the atrocities that were happening in the princely states (by Muslim rulers ex: Hyderabad), as bad Jalainwala Bagh was it was one officer that did that and in states like Hyd it was the govt that arranged such atrocities and no they did not turn History in to mythology, take any respectable British archeologist's works, they praise India and its culture. If they called out, they were the appalling activities like sati and child marriages.

@@sriramr2437 jallianwala bagh is bad but even worse things were happening in neighbouring Indian princely states like Hyd. and read any respectable British archeologist or officers works they admire Indian culture. This wonderful channel is an uncanny draw for ideologues of a certain bent, seemingly educated on nothing more than WhatsApp forwards! As it is with ideologues, they will ignore all facts that are ill-suited to their ideology, thereby depriving themselves of what is most necessary for the study of history - balance. For instance, we will see no mention of said ruler's many gifts to temples across his kingdom or the many people in his administration who belonged to a different faith. Neither will the ideologue mention that the supposed conversions, if they did indeed occur, targeted people of multiple faiths. No Sir, No Madam, processing conflicting information and coming to a balanced view is simply impossible. Why go through all this trouble when we can simply parrot what makes us feel comfortable, feel special?
