The sad part is that even if someone who is not associated with the circles would find out with 100% certainty, he would still not be able to convince people about it. The painting would have to end up in some mid/level art fanatic's hand before people can actually research the particular painting-

bngr bngr 500 years is a long time, and careless edits made to the painting made it seem fake. I'm not saying certainly that it's genuine or fake, but it is plausible based on that story that it's genuine. The painting disappeared in 1763 - with such a large window of uncertainty a lot of things could have happened to it. Heck, it could be that this painting is a fake - and that the real thing was destroyed 200 years ago.

Helena Nilsson it never made it to the Louvre in Abu Dhabi. It might of been sold already. Or the Louvre determined that it was a fraud. It only was declared a Da Vinci by a visual inspection. It was not scientifically tested.

Based on the conversation, she thought it was some sort of copy until she started work on the lips. Then she realized it was the real deal. Imagine that moment working on it. As an artist, someone who for the sake of their work effectively needs to put themselves in the feet of the original artist for the sake of restoration...suddenly realize she's sharing the same canvas with who's considered one of the best painters of all time? Perhaps I'm being hyperbolic, but being "unbelievably lucky" is a massive understatement.

They didn't just invite in da Vinci experts to look at the painting and say that it was. Once they saw what was underneath the overpainting, science came to the forefront. Carbon dating of a small sample from the original paint would give them evidence of age. The paint sample would also be chemically analyzed to see if it matched that of other da Vinci paintings. Each artist has a particular style of brushstrokes, which experts would already be very familiar with.

Most of the time when very old paintings are suddenly "found" there is a lot of skepticism. Just because they didn't show experts testing the painting, comparing previous works to it, style/color, etc. Doesn't mean it didn't happen. A painting like this doesn't just show up and NOT get tested. It was being sold as a copy anyway, (and having been repainted) which is some more proof that someone didn't just paint this and try to pass it of as an original Leo.

This happened to me a few times over the years and once to my husband with the Monet in the Musée d'Orsay and then again to a friend I took to Ringling Museum. It was the Peter Paul Rubens room, it even quieted our toddlers. So when Ms. Modestini says oh yes this was the real thing, I think I understand what she meant.

I never even heard about this. This is the first time I’ve seen the painting… Why did this make me cry like a baby 😭😭😭 with love in my heart. Meaning is very very powerful. The most powerful thing that exists in this realm. I know that my pain is the distilled story of sacrifice in a million ancestors, the iron in my blood the distilled magnificence of the sacrifice of an immense sun which shone for billions of years in the cold void of space, and the emotions I feel now are no different-they speak of eternity. Every artist is a portal to ultimate meaning which, like the Tao, and the sun, shines through its immensity defying our words. To have a sun as an ancestor which runs red in my veins, and the birth of the universe speaking in the beating of my shining heart. This is what it means to be human. To know you are loved and to love. Thank you Leonardo. ❤️‍🔥👁️❤️‍🔥

Read this on an article, thought I'd share: “Leonardo has worked on the painting, [and] I think that's important to recognize," Landrus says in his interview with Holland and Prisco of CNN. "We tend to think in black and white-one or the other, when it comes to attribution, but that's definitely not the tradition. The tradition was to get help from the studio.” I, personally, don't think it should matter how much percent of it he did, all that matters is that he contributed one way or another. It's connected to Leonardo, regardless.

1. Paint a great painting in a famous artist's style, using antiquated paints, canvas etc. 2. Damage it badly. 3. Repair it badly, incompletely, and overpaint a bit, badly. 4. Repair it more, using different materials, badly. Overpaint parts of the first repair. Coat it with dark varnish and dirt! 5. 'Find it', in a yard sale, bric-a-brac shop, or antiques road show. 6. 'Have feelings' it might be worth something! 7. Have the old varnish cleaned off. 'Discover' some former damage, and have more feelings. 8. Have the dodgy 2nd repair removed, 'discover' more former damage, and have more 'feelings', asking experts for their opinion. 9. Start putting the story out, and commissioning full restoration over a very large time-frame, for effect. Use the time to encourage the rumours. 10. Deliver to Sotheby's! 11. Laugh all the way to the bank! Heh heh!

Imagine what DaVinci would say if he could witness how much the world would come to treasure his work. Such a humble beginnings which amounts to such prestigiousness. We don’t have anyone that can even come close to that these days sadly. A massive stature as DaVinci expressing his genius and yet some ppl in the 21st century still bickering whether or not a god exists... All the proof has always been here all along imho. The beauty of the Mundi is that a lot of ppl who previously had it all missed the opportunity on it’s real beauty/value. From what close to trash to literally treasure. And this is but a tangible thing one man has created, imagine how much the maestro himself would fetch.

But as it’s their property now, they’re not obliged to divulge its condition or whereabouts and these guys are freaking out!

Those people who really have no idea about painting (except for a woman who is a renovator). The first sentence is about the price. They don't even talk about painting only about biography and money. pathetic..

Not Da Vinci, or if it is, a very inferior one, and how many times did the Master paint an inferior picture? School of Da Vinci, probably. An actual Da Vinci, probably not. Let the Arabs have it!

I need to say this. Da Vinci didn't die a starving pauper!!! He, at the time. Was very handsomely paid. I am certain that if at the time he could have made more money doing something else. He may have. If not. He would have, as mentioned before. Died a pauper, and no one would know his name. He did commission after commission, and I'm making out that's wrong. It's not. But, the Mona Lisa. That was a commission. People have a romantic view of artists, doing it JUST FOR THE LOVE OF IT! What's the difference between an art graduate and a pizza? A pizza can feed a family of four!

This made my day 😅😅😅😅😅😅 If you get a chance.. Research Pascal Cotte Reflectograpghy on the Mona Lisa.... Imagine a portrait of Obama in the White House whereby decades later the NSA do a test and unravel the origin sketch to be actually that of no other than the Right Reverend Desmond Tutu

The conservator is a marvellous woman. She clearly has an intense admiration for the artwork and a deep understanding of it.
