Man, it seems like being a Disney kid in the early 90s was peak. I have watched quite a bit of these shows though. I love Darkwing Duck.

There was also a Disney Afternoon CD released the same year (1990) with music and the theme songs from the then 4 Disney Shows Duck Tales, Gummi Bears, Chip N' Dales Rescue Rangers and Talespin! Talespin also had a now rare promo only CD released with the score from the pilot movie!💽🦆🧸🐿

The best thing Gargoyles did was introduce a generation of kids to the magnificence that is Keith David. He has the best voice in the business!

Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Mighty Ducks the animated series, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, and Bonkers are my favorites growing up, but Gargoyles is my all time favorite. I have met Keith David, the actor who plays Goliath and Spawn at a comic convention. Gargoyles has the best intro ever: “One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again! We are defenders of the night! We are Gargoyles!” -Goliath

It's kinda surprising how well most of these show hold up after so much time. I remember really enjoying the Aladdin show back then, because it did a really great job of expanding on the fantasy world we saw in the movies. I always liked how it introduced a reoccurring villain who was essentially an evil version of Aladdin.

Duck tales, Tailspin, & Darkwing Duck had the best intro theme song ever.

I remember The Disney Afternoon! I watched it every now and then. I remember when several of the shows that were on TDA were moved to the Disney Channel and aired on a block branded as Block Party during 1995 and 1996.

I vaguely remember Disney Channel being one that you had to buy from your cable operator. I didn't get to experience it as often at home but at a babysitter's or my cousin's house I did; this video brings back a lot of memories that I DID get to experience. Thank you for uploading this!

You’re right, I was mixing up some things because in the early years Tiny Toons aired on Fox
@frankreads861825 күн бұрын
Bonkers was originally going to be a continuation of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but it was changed due to rights issues. The whole "real people and toons coexisting" thing is kinda lost when all of the characters, including the humans, are animated. But props for trying, I guess.

I also remember ABC afterschool special. It was shown from 3-4 pm or 4-5 pm. An hour of very special episodes. The after school special covered everything from drugs to dating violence, shoplifting, AIDS, death, racism. Prime age range was school age kids/young tweens. Love to see your take on some of the memorable episodes and some of the stinkers.

Why did the Disney Afternoon end? By August 1996 (owing to decreasing business in the syndicated children's television market (Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon) and the new networks (The WB and UPN) with having children's blocks of their own), *Buena Vista agreed with the Leo Burnett agency to market and distribute a revamped version of the block for the 1997-98 and 1998-99 television seasons.* Buena Vista established a partnership with Leo Burnett and Kellogg's-who had been a major sponsor of The Disney Afternoon-to purchase an amount of dedicated advertising inventory. *The new block did not carry any blanket branding, but was referred to internally as the "Disney-Kellogg Alliance."*

I wished my favourites past Disney animated series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Mighty Ducks, Wuzzles, Gargoyles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are onto a complete Blu- Ray (with the entire episodes)at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Tangled the animated series. Because some of the Disney films like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules for examples have their own animated series which is why I still think that the past Disney animated series deserved to be released onto Blu-Ray at last more than the Disney films.

A couple of unresolved plot lines in Aladdin. Malcho the feathered serpent swore revenge on Aladdin but we never saw him again. The blind seer revealed to the audience that he and Mirage were once lovers and he implored Mirage in a monologue to come back to him. Genie and the female green genie were boyfriend/girlfriend but she only appeared in a few episodes and then was never mentioned again. Some people deride Dan Castellaneta for portraying Genie while he was also Homer Simpson, but he deserves a lot more credit than that, he truly was a great Genie next to Robin Williams. A minor correction, too: in Gargoyles, Demona wasn't an immortal sorceress per se, but she was another gargoyle who was Goliath's former lover, and she was bound to a curse with the man MacBeth and they weren't completely immortal as the curse would be broken if they killed each other.

I remember that one of the key reasons for this block failing near the end after it did so well, was the fact that the cartoons were losing ratings due to them just being either boring or really bad. Shoonkums and meat started it with how bad it was which led to that show being pulled quickly. And quack pack was the worst of all the shows. Nobody and I mean nobody liked that show when it aired. It was so garbage. Mighty ducks could of done well had it came out earlier like the early to mid 90s but at the time it did come out, people were tired of the whole duck stuff and wanted something different. Mind u this is all info I remember that circulated in the 00s to mid 2010s. Idk if any of this is said now a days, especially since u urself didnt mention this in the video. Great video nonetheless

Thank you, I didn't really like the later shows neither. None of them had the charm or quality as the earlier shows just like you said unfortunately.
@MathieuLeblanc199125 күн бұрын
You should have covered how big of a risk Gummi Bears was, the executives from competing studios like Hanna Barbera and Filmation mocked Disney for investing millions more into the animation for the show ( done by TMS who would later work on a majority of WB shows ) and told them they’d be out of the business in 2 years. They got the last laugh and shows started getting huge budgets thanks to it
@LetsRunItBack25 күн бұрын
Thanks for mentioning that, I will look into that and maybe make a video talking about just the creation of the block adding more details like that.

I did a short video on Saturday Morning Cartoons around when I 1st started the channel a few months ago. I know I would rush home to watch gummie bear, ducktales, and Rescue rangers. Though Bushroot was not a fem fatale. He was not a lady, before his mutation he was Reginald Bushroot. Gargoyles was in my humble pinion the best of the block, Demona was not a sorceress

I kind of disagree that the popularity of afternoon cartoons killed it as Pokemon and similar style cartoons took off in the early 2000s. Even though I see in your video that several Fox stations carried the Disney Afternoon, I think in most markets it was independent stations that aired it. In 1995, the WB and UPN bought a lot of TV stations and they seemed to have their own cartoon blocks. Some markets had network switches and the new Fox stations were showing talk shows instead of cartoons. By the late 90s, most markets didn't have a station that had time to air the Disney afternoon as I recall.
@LetsRunItBack25 күн бұрын
For my area I honestly forget what channel aired it. I believe it was ABC though. My Area has always had 2 different Fox affiliate channels so it could have been on the 2nd Fox channel, while Fox Kids aired on the other.
