The Nitwits's Tyrone & Gladys were based on two iconic characters from the old Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In comedy show (1968 to 1973) and were even voiced by the same actors, Arte Johnson & Ruth Buzzi. Here is an example of one of their skits. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqGZZYiYZbt_r6M

I have purchased several of these cartoons to watch on Saturday mornings. My wife had cancer and one Saturday she said what is that your watching and I told her it was Tarzan Lord of the Jungle. I helped her into the living room and we watch cartoons for 3 hours. She said she just understood me more with my cartoon choices.

Came out when I was 17. I was over cartoons by that age, but I dug the show, as it was presented maturely enough to not be insulting of intelligence. I especially liked the episode where Tarzan encounters some Vikings that somehow have migrated to Africa in their longboat and have kept their ways into the 20th century.

"Valley of the Dinosaurs" was incredibly done. I video taped it and recorded it from Boomerang in the early 2000's. My daughter (about 7 or 8 at the time), and I made up our own titles for each episode. Eventually, I bought the DVD, typed up our episode titles, printed it, and kept it inside the DVD box. Last year, my daughter called me and told me that for Christmas, she wanted "Valley of the Dinosaurs" and a copy of our episode titles. "Valley of the Dinosaurs" has become my grandson's favorite show.

@Vagajammer I never got into "Land of the Lost". I tried to, but I just couldn't. "Valley of the Dinosaurs" was so much better written. The last time I was at my daughter's house, we watched it. Both of my grandkids like it, but my grandson can't get enough.

Josie and the Pussycats had two seasons. The second season was "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space". The reason Hanna-Barbera stopped using them was because the characters were borrowed from Archie Comics, and they had to pay Archie Comics to use them.

I was born in early 1964. I remember quite well “Josie And The Pussycats”, and the theme to it. I never really watched it because I was Looney Tunes, Johnny Quest, and some of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Then there was that H.R. Puf n Stuf. Land Of The Lost, Fat Albert, etc. I guess I fell out of Saturday morning cartoons around ‘76 or earlier. Sunday Nights were The Wonderful World of Disney, on NBC.

@@davidcorrell6271 Bro, Walt Disney movies were so different back then. Family oriented, no profanity, no violence, no adult theme (far unlike Mel Brooks), No political agenda or ideology. In a way, back in the early 1970s, seeing a Disney movie on Sunday Nights was a treat. The Wonderful World of Disney. I could go down a list, and another treat was seeing “Batman & Robin”, the original 1966 movie. Me, my brothers and cousins, we saw it in the late ‘60s on TV, the full length version. We grew up to all that, especially “The Wizard of Oz”.

Yeah, I think Tinker (the guy from Speed Buggy) was later explained to be a distant cousin of Shaggy in one of the Scooby-Doo movies that Speed Buggy co-starred. Personally, I think it was because HB was so cheap that they reused whatever they could - which also explained how Shmoo wound up hanging out with Fred and Barney later on.

Cool! I recognize about half including part 1!! So the Baggy pants character Gladys kinda reminds me of the Gladys Ormphby character played by Ruth Buzzi on Laugh In! Got a list from the back of my mind with older stuff; FELIX THE CAT 1958 MISTER MAGOO 1960-62 BEANY AND CECIL 1962-67 THE MIGHTY HERCULES 1963-1966 JOHNNY QUEST 1964-65 SPACE GHOST 1966 SUPER CHICKEN 1967-69 DUDLEY DO-RIGHT 1969-70 SPEED BUGGY 1973 GRAPE APE 1975 Thanks for the memories as Bob Hope used to sing! Wow that's incredible...what a stroke for a relatively modern cartoon maker to reach back into history of a Chaplin necessity ....silence...and make a chubby cat/top cat silent...it's genius...Baggy pants +the nit wits a silent cartoon...utter genius....I hope the guy enjoyed the good life for thinking this one up!

Tarzan lord of the jungle was my favorite, wasn't long before I was swinging through the trees and scaling tennis court fences just like Tarzan, took some practice and some sore arms and legs but I did it everyone in the neighborhood was like who are you? Sure you weren't raised in the jungle?

Back in the 70's growing up television was a side piece of our daily life we didn't spend hours in front of it but when we did tune in it was adventure in a box driven by a outside antenna its where i learned a lot about the world which back then seemed so big and wonderful with mystery abounding. We couldn't get but 2 are 3 channels and by time 80's rolled around those unseen shows that we couldn't pick up through the 70's was a mystery in itself that i was curious to see and with newer channels appearing around atlanta ga along with cable tv i was able to see shows that i never saw from years and decades before and it was so much fun and my curiosity was on full display . Those where golden years.

I feel like this whole episode was sponsored in part by Hanna Barbera. Nearly every toon mentioned here was produced by them. One thing’s for sure though. They revolutionized animating techniques and helped push for the Saturday morning cartoons segment all of us 70s and 80s kids remember growing up with.
