It was so horrible what happened with Mr. Vasquez's Very Important House. :( He wasn't even allowed to pitch it to any other studio. Once it was canned, it got canned Hard. And now that's just a whole portion of HIS work that he's not even allowed to use. I'm glad we got to see the pilot after all these years.

It’s honestly surreal to see all these pilots we never even knew existed all these years. Shows that I could have grew up with, and shows that I did grow up with that were pretty different originally (namely owl house, I kinda wish the actual show was more like the pilot. I love how amity is responsible for luz going into the boiling isles. Reminds me of gwen from spiderverse.)

as someone who has an archive copy of an unreleased animated series pilot short, I feel like I could never personally leak it publicly as I'd be too terrified of getting in trouble while at the same time wanting to be known as the one who leaked it lmao. Better to just keep it safe and hidden, but I think it's awesome that this stuff is getting leaked.

12:25 this part made me cry. A weird part to cry about and this isn’t necessarily a cryer of a video, but I have prior experience in a gobelin’s story boarding online course for 3 weeks and I was miserable there. I felt like everyone there was ahead of me in both skill and experience. (because they were, I was comparing raisins to wine which was problem 1, I would have gotten so much more out of the course if I had more experience In the field so I do not fault Gobelins for this in the slightest) So after that course ringed me out of all the creativity I had like an artist sponge, I felt very doubtful that I had a place in the industry. But hearing you affirm that there is so much more that goes into the animation pipeline makes me feel like I have a shot💛

The Owl House pitch bible was mad cool! It's fascinating to see what changed and remained between the animatic pilot and first aired episode. All the art freed from the vault is a great source of inspiration as we're drafting the first scripts for Ruff Ruff Danger Dogs. Thanks for bringing these to our attention!

I just want to say that watching Wander Over Yonder pilot on youtube reminded me why I loved this show when I was younger, and made me re-watch the entire thing. I'm legit obsessed with this story, and now that I'm an adult I can take my fangirl-ing to a whole new level (which, in my case, is video editing and learning about how animation is created). #savewoy

One of the most depressing facts I learned from my college profs was how much concept art gets locked away. I LOVE concept art, sometimes more than the media they're made for but Art Books show such a small amount of what get made for each show... and sometimes the concept art will get cleaned up for art books, making the early stages look cleaner and more professional. I still absolutely love artbooks, but there's so much more amazing production art that never gets to see the light of day. It's exciting to see even a fraction of it make it's way onto the internet!

I have seen most of the leaked pilots, and enjoyed the ones like Gravity Falls and Amphibia/land, but I got sad watching the Very Important House pilot... that show looks like it would have been SO GOOD and with Jhonen Vasquez on it... My favorite show is Gravity Falls and my second favorite is Invader Zim, so being teased with a little bit of a show that combines the two pains me just because it seems unlikely to ever be made.... but great video as ever, Fiona!

Random Question (Just For Fun): But if you can adapt any book (rather if it were a novel, comic, manga, or even web novels & web toons) into a live action or 2D or 3D animated cartoon or anime movie or show, which ones would it be and why? I have 2 comics that comes to my mind... The first one is that I love for there to be a 3D animated movie based on Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi. Now I love Marvel & DC comics to death but Amulet is criminally underrated. And the fact there was going to be a movie based on it (don't know which company was gonna make it) is an insult to someone who has grown up with these books back in middle school such as myself. If you're an Owl House fan I guarantee you will enjoy reading these books. The other is that I would love for there to be 2D animated adult series based on the comic series The Unwritten by Mike Carey (with art by Peter Gross). Thomas “Tom" Taylor is the protagonist of the comic series The Unwritten. Tom is the son of the writer Wilson Taylor who wrote a series of fantasy books, The Tommy Taylor series, based on his son. The "problem" is that Wilson modeled Tommy so closely to Tom that it causes people to compare him to his fictional counterpart. What he didn't know is that his father did this to connect Tom to the collective unconscious of mankind in order to give him vast powers, so he can stop an evil Cabal that rules the world and shapes mankind's history. It really is a shame that Tom Taylor is only known for power scaling videos instead of being known and appreciated for who he really is. I really do believe, that there is a possible chance for The Unwritten to be adapted as a 2D animated adult series, if given to a right studio. If Invisible can get one, so can The Unwritten. So yeah, I would like for these two comics to be adapted if they can be pulled off correctly.

Honestly, I kind of get it. Art books and show bibles are very different documents. I wouldn't be surprised if the show bibles were full of nuts-and-bolts stuff and jargon that's either uninteresting or unintelligible to the larger public. They're meant to be internal documents, not something for a general audience. I think show bibles should be preserved, but I understand why they aren't publicly released, though I would love more art books showing art progression from concepts to final!

Oh sure, you CAN just make your pilot a non-canon sales-pitch and only release it for marketing purposes. Or you can pull a Star Trek and run out of budget so you have to turn it into a clipshow which leads to it being canonized and then make a whole prequel spin-off series based on its characters decades later that internet losers will moan is full of SJW BS. The way God intended. :P
