You got the bad ending. If you want to get the good ending you have to complete the watermelon side quest from chapter 3, which you also get the spell “Spell Binder” from. After that, you have to beat the secret bosses in chapter 1, 2, 4, and 5. Then return to chapter 3 to beat the final secret boss. Then you get the true ending.

You got the Bad ending you need to finish all the secret paths for each chapter. I think you missed one in Chapter 5 near the huge Rolling Ball Area. There is a passage there that lead you to it after you speak to the Ox guy at the beginning of the chapter.
