One of my favorite episodes of In Our Time, from March 27, 2008. Guests are Diarmaid MacCulloch, Diane Purkiss, and George Bernard.

Interesting that the argument that small houses were dissolved to raise the standard of the bigger ones was also suggested by Napoleon to his brother Joseph, as KIng of Naples.

The reason why Melvyn Bragg does get impatient with some guests, is they have a tendancy to go off subject. Some also tend to show off, which does audibly infuriate Bragg.

Henry raided the religious dimension far more than the Pope the political.

Is it conclusive that King Henry VIII signed The Attainer Of Dissolution? Where Is That Document?

I should like to know whether there is an episode of 'In Our Time' which isn't immensely enjoyable. I haven't found any, and I am curious to know if indeed any such exist.

While I think there are some more interesting than others, I doubt there are any that are not enjoyable at all, and some are highly relistenable. There was one, however, with a fairly contentious, somewhat heated disagreement between Melvin and one of the guests that was uncomfortable to listen to, although I can't remember off the top of my head which it was. I do remember that he did a part 2 of that episode; a bit of a re-do, I remember thinking, at the time.

@@inhighspeedI think I remember an episode about Hell where he seemed very annoyed at a woman and kept demanding she try to answer some specific question which felt awkward since it was early into the show. She then seemed very sheepish every time she spoke afterwards, the only one I remember where he seemed contentious. I overall love him as a host but that one seemed like he was... Cranky? 😂
