You did a brilliant job in telling this story in this brief form. Well done. I often wonder; of the nine levels of hell, which one was Henry VIII assigned to. There is no doubt that is most certainly where he ended up. And may he rot there for what he did.

I hope you enjoy this video. Just a note to say that I made an error and during the video spelt 'Dorter' incorrectly. I missed out the 'e' and wanted to clarify the correct spelling here...also my lovely partner misspelt 'Muniments Room', so it is labelled Monuments Room' My bad - I only noticed after it went live.

We were fortunate enough to stay in Fountains Hall this year and we had a wonderful week. We were able to spend time in the Abbey and gardens after hours, it is a magical place 😁😁

I drove there from York around 15 years ago. I can still remember the day, it was a clear sunny day and the ruins looked splendid. I spent several hours there exploring the buildings and I well remember the warming room where there was a fire lit during the colder months until Easter.

Wow. Great vid. A real nugget of info on the abbey and its place historically. Really spells out how far reaching and destructive Henry the Eighth's reign was, through so many levels of Tudor society.

henry 8 was a cruel, heartless, self-absorbed, monstrous despot. He betrayed God, the Church, his wife, his daughter, many mistresses, his illegitimate daughter, his friends, and about 60 or 70 thousand of his subjects.

Lovely video. The portrait drawing you showed of Anne Boleyn was actually of Margaret Roper, Sir Thomas More's daughter.

Thanks for the kind feedback but I don't agree about the image. I think most historians would say that this is accepted as Anne by Holbein but if you have new evidence that his is now being labelled as Margaret Roper, do let me know.

I cried so hard after listening to this podcast. It’s so sad two people where responsible for ripping all of these beautiful buildings to shreds and leaving the country in ruin. From what I understand Cromwell wanted to destroy Westminster Abby too but H8 drew the line there. Thank goodness he had one ounce of sense to preserve the Abby. I think it’s only because his father just finished the ladies chapel and his mother, father, siblings, aunts and uncles are buried there. How does one justify shredding your parents resting place? Especially ones Mother’s burial site!!!??? What he did was horrific enough and one can only image these splendid buildings. Forget religion, I can never understand why he tore the buildings up. They could have been used for schools, private homes, charity, sold to the highest bidder if he needed money so desperately. Thank you for the wonderful videos and podcasts!!! I love your content, books and programs.

Sarah. A fantastic video about a beautiful building. However, me being a Yorkist, how you can represent anything associated with the Tudors (who were nothing more than a bunch of murdering, usurping gangsters) I've no idea. For Fountains Abbey 👍

I have a very scary story what happened at this abbey me and 2 friends and my girlfriend at the time all decided to visit here at night I will never ever everrrr go there again we walked into the room which has the extra long corridor it was pitch black we were there for I'd say about 2-5mins and heard a voice saying get out we left but after that only me and my girlfriend would return and what we heard with a different group of friends was a chant like a angelic monk chant which was coming from the other end of the corridor but I heard lyrics i never understood we ran outside and heard nothing so decided to visit where the big tower was which was a long way away from where we initially stood and believed that chanting came from there we never saw anything or heard anything it was terrifying as sounded like more than 20 people was singing when we left we saw something in the top outhouse window watching us my friend thought was the moonlight until it walked to the other side of the room then that was it I was done and won't ever return
