The best thing in your videos is that you derive the formula so that the students understand it well.

Hey Dave! A question. I clearly see how the distance, when the line has its origin at (0, 0), is equal to the hypotenuse of the rectangle triangle that has rise and run as legs. Now, imagine a line that goes from (2, 3) to (5, 3). You could clearly see that it has a length of 3, but if you wanted to derive it from the formula, how can we know it? If you plug the coordinates into the formula, it gives back the length, but now the legs of that triangle are not rise over run (they are diagonals in respect to the X-Y axis). Thanks!

not sure i understand the question! all the sides can have lengths derived from the distance formula, and they will all fit into the pythagorean theorem.
@eea7922 жыл бұрын
the pythagorean theorem is just a special case of the law of cosines (cos90=0). in your question the line is horizontal, and cos0=1, so if we apply that to the law of cosines we're left with d^2=(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2-2.(x2-x1)(y2-y1) which as you can see will give us the same equation since (y2-y1)=0. i don't know if this would be helpful after two years but maybe someone else might benefit from it, so there you are

The points (-7,-1) and (3,11) should yield 10√2, no?
@hthomas41353 ай бұрын
No, because (-7-3) + (-1-11) = (-10**2) + (-12**2) 244 if we take prime numbers we get 2 * 2 * 61 so we get 2 root 61

Hello, I am wondering why sqrt205 when simplified is not 5sqrt41, I know it doesn't evaluate correctly but I don't get why it stays the same. Any support is appreciated.

Hello professor! Can you please help in this question.. A student mixed 100.00mL of Ba(OH)2 (aq) (unknown molarity) with 500.00mL of 0.0200M NaOH in a conical flask tp make up Solution A. He then transferred 25.00mL of Solution Ato a 250.00mL volumetric flask and added distilled water up to the calibration mark to make up Solution B. The concentration of the hydroxide ions in Solution B is 2.00 *10-3 mol/L. Calculate the molarity of the original solution of Ba(OH)2.

So for the answer (-4,5) and (2,2) the answer is 3 root 5 what do u mean by that because I got d=9
@LuniSubsss4 ай бұрын
i know its late but d=root of (2-(-4))^2 +(2-5)^2 which is equal to root of 36+9 which is equal to root of 45 which can be written as rootof 9 multiplied by root of 5 the root of 9 is equal to 3 which gives the result 3 root 5

why did you keep the square root sign by the distance formula? why not take away both the square root, and the square sign? thank you.

that's not algebraically valid, there's a sum of squares under there.

This is great. I found video of a guy who literally said in front of people to "just plug in numbers" as if switching digits for alphabet mean understanding what equation does. Hope children find more people like you rather than him. I swear every idiot like him is wasting potential of every pupil he gets into contact.
