The trend of faking mental disorders on social media needs to stop. Now. Today. It is detrimental to anyhone who has a mental illness and a slap in the face to those that live with it on a daily basis.

As someone who is actually on the spectrum I find people who fake having mental health issues for attention online offensive

The first place I ever witnessed that sort of thing (faking mental illness/using self diagnosed mental illness as a bludgeoning tool) was tumblr. I'm not saying that's the origin, but for me, it was my first experience. I was acquainted with a pair of people who "shared" their so-called alters or facets between each other. They were all fictional characters from the Resident Evil franchise. One of them had a meltdown at some point because someone else referred to them as the wrong fictional character. I feel for people who actually suffer from these disorders, who are trying to get help and can't because social media has discovered that it can use this stuff for sympathy and clout all in one go.

5:51 as someone who has probably mild autism and I don’t like to throw us around a lot because I’m still functioning like a normal human being to some extent at least I like to think so. But I digress as someone who has autism and seen the tick-tock‘s and all the people who do fake social disorders I know what they’re after thereafter not only sympathy but also money and some of it is a little bit of sexualize drag gratification faking a mental disorder it is a mental disorder in of itself it’s just not the one we all think it is including them the people who do fake this shit! The problem is it’s the lack there of attention from a young age from mommy and daddy and they need to basically get clout by any means necessary to blow up become popular all that nonsense

I usually defend whoever is being claimed as a faker because I've been accused of that before. I hate it when I hear people claim that because they have no idea what it feels like being gaslit about your own symptoms. It's ironic to use that word to describe mental illness because it's about convincing someone they are crazy, but it's true in a sense. It's about denying someone's lived experience. My father claims ADHD doesn't exist when he has hallmark symptoms of it along with my mom. 2 of my brothers have been diagnosed with it. I was gaslit about every symptom that I've ever had and was called hysterical. My father refuses to acknowledge that there's anything wrong with us. He refused to get us help. He even gaslit me about my grandfather's bipolar diagnosis. He said he was never diagnosed with it, so I legitimately thought I hallucinated that. I later found out that he was lying and denying things like always. It really messed me up because I was in this OCD loop of questioning my sanity because of this crap. I thought maybe my brain made it up to feel less alone and that I was actually the one who had it. It caused very real symptoms. C-PTSD is a btch. I've wondered if all this crap stems from childhood trauma. I have legitimate diagnoses that I'm on medications for. ADHD, OCD, autism, etc. I'm not collecting them like Pokémon. Look up the comorbidity statistics between different mental illnesses. When you have one, you likely have another. As for autism, people don't understand what masking is, and they see pretty autistic women who seem "normal" and judge them. (I'm not pretty, but there are pretty autistic women on tiktok, and I've seen so much hate unfairly thrown their way). Autism symptoms aren't quirkiness. Like how I sit with my legs up on a table, that's not me trying to be quirky or cool. That's sensory seeking behavior. I've done it since I was a kid. I do understand that there's a financial incentive for trending topics, so people may be tempted to fake, but I assume they aren't because outside of tiktok autism is stigmatized. Most illnesses are. Maybe some people saw legitimate autistic or ADHD creators being open and proud about who they are, and they must have related to certain normal human behaviors they shared. Or they discovered they actually do have these disorders. Who knows? I'm not going to judge. If they are being deceptive for money then I'm sure it will come back to bite them in the butt. Edit: In my opinion it's better to not call out the real fakers because it attracts more people to do that and the people who really do have the mental illnesses are the ones who get hurt. It's kind of like people who get mad at others with invisible disabilities who take disabled parking spaces. I just watched a video earlier about a Karen who harassed a young women with an arrhythmia whose heart rate was in the 160's because she thought her service dog was fake and she was sitting on the ground for attention. She could have killed her with the stress from arguing about moving off the ground.

Found this book quite informative about this topic: Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up - Abigail Shrier More and more people are using this(Mental Disorders) as an excuse for their failures and laziness. And as this is potential revenue for Pharma and rest of the system it will be encouraged.
