I feel like I need a flow chart or a diagram to keep track of all of this.

Vasistha instructed the three queens to take a ceremonial bath before entering the family shrine. Vasistha then poured the payasam into three golden cups. He instructed Dasaratha to give the cups to the three queens, first to Kausalya, next to Sumitra, and the last to Kaikeyi. Then Vasistha completed the ceremony of worship. Kausalya and Kaikeyi kept their cups safely in their respective shrine rooms thinking that their child will be the king. Kausalya had this view because she was the eldest queen and Kaikeyi because Dasaratha promised her father that her son would be the heir to the throne. Sumitra on the other hand did not have any hope of her child being the next king so her earnestness in drinking the contests of the cup was not that great. She placed the cup on a short parapet wall and moved to the terrace to dry her hair in the sun. After a while, an eagle swooped down and snatched the cup and flew far into the sky. The cup was left on the Mantanga Mountain. A female monkey by the name of Ananja Devi was meditating at that time on that mountain. She spotted the cup and drank its contents. She became pregnant and gave birth Hanuman.
