You can use the forge holster and Lengmo also however, I tested that. Diminishing returns from the Forge as it only adds 400k to shield Health. This is because shield health is worse than skill health for example 13 percent skill health gives my shield the same health as 50 percent shield health. Basically forge or empress? Empress= 20% skill damage/20% repair skills/10% skill health. Forge= 25% explosive resistance(doesn’t apply to shield)/50% shield health/10% skill damage. You can use either it’s up to you but this combo is best in my opinion as we get more skill damage and repair skills and dont waste on incoming repairs and an unnecessary amount of explosive resistance from the forge. Also because skill health is much better. If you use the forge and empress you actually loose 1 million shield health, this is because the 25% skill health from lengmo actually gives more shield health than the Forges 50% shield health. No idea why. (To this build) Forge adds roughly 1 million shield health. Empress 10% skill health adds roughly 800k shield health. Lengmo 25% skill health adds roughly 2.2 million shield health.

since TU20 deflector is better against elites- they don't automatically nail you in the legs/head and bypass the shield. The TTK is low, which is the achilles heal of deflector and pistol builds in general, even if they are generally durable. Explosions are your bane, and so is a shield break (thanks to TU15 shield nerfs). And yes, for whatever reason ER doesn't apply to your shield, but PfE does. Deflector is a red-headed step child, the reflect generally counts as and is buffed by skill damage buffs (eg will proc Tech Support on a kill and be buffed by it), but it doesn't proc spark nor in-synch. Reflect does not trigger OD bleed, but does trigger Ridgeway. Artificer also buffs the output in addition to healing the shield, so Technician is really the best choice (and you can use more heals or more damage from spec). If you are close the enemies with deflector, they tend to not shoot at you, which contributes to the lower TTK. It's best when you can use a wall-e bot or dog to reflect rounds to kill tougher things. Little known feature of the shield- you can reflect your groupmates bullets! Pretty hilarious actually to shoot things around the corner using the shield as a vector. Personally, I'd run a heavier PfE variant, but this works too to use the buffed chest with NBB. But you lose on reflect damage (no chest with KM or GC), and with NBB you lose momento (cores, regen, and skill efficiency) or a high end bag with a talent (combined arms or adrenaline rush etc.). Cartharsis and regen builds work pretty well with stand off deflector builds as well.

I’ve been running the four piece foundry with skill damage, bell stone back pack with skill damage/repair skill/adrenaline rush, and catharsis mask since Zoo legendary came out. It’s a great build that can handle basically anything. Big trick most people don’t know is to pull the agro and have teammates shoot your shield. It’ll amplify their damage while killing targeted enemies. It’s great for chungus!!

As a returning player from xbox, shd level 5k with 10 top placements in legendary missions, this interests me alot! tank builds were always really good, but not for dishing out damage at all. Will 100% give this a try! Thanks for the build!

The deflector shield destroy but your play style for sure is the one who's not up for it. You don't stay that far back with the deflector because has a damage drop-off (but this build has no chance at close range... that's why is so slow)

I run a build like this but with two Empress, instead of the Lengmo. The Empress skill efficiency perk gives you 10% more damage, health, repair and every other skill metric. I am not sure the 15% extra skill health from Lengmo would off set the bonuses of having Empress skill efficiency. Have you tried running two Empress in your testing?

I agree, the pistol can be a chore. Patrick has given a solid build here. A variant of this build could be to add handling where he has skill dmg. Even just a small amount like 16% handling can help this beast feel better to use. I've found with deflector builds that it's not so much about the dmg the shield is doing. It's more about the technique used with the shield. Enemies don't like their bullets reflected back at them and they tend to cower and run for cover once they taste their own medicine. Using other enemy fire to defeat the foe in front of you is where this shield really shines. When it's 1 v 1, it's going to feel a bit slow to kill. But yeah, solid build on display here. Liberty takes a bit to get used to...its a bit wild, but once you've mastered it's eb and flow, no foe will stand before you.

@@nicolai2429 yes, thats the only other pistol worth using besides liberty in this context. I only wish reflected shots procced in-synch. ridgeway and sadist, or even skill OD and sadist with deflector are pretty good use cases as well. brazos and even palisade are good for tiers in NBB contexts in various deflector configurations for 'free' skill tiers that you then turn into armor or red cores, all while still having a decently powerful buff and heal from the arty hive (unambigiously the best skill to couple with deflector, which also locks you into technician unfortunately).

@@grumpyoldman6503 with the Liberty one of the thing that works for me is when I’m strafing left I push the aim slightly to the right and vice versa, which helps keep the sights more level and even with quite a bit less bounce.

Why repair skills? I understand repair skills only affects skills that repair you, like the hive, drone or seeker. But for a talent, like foundry you need incoming repair. Have you test thar repair skills really do something? Thanks, and great build!

The shield is not affected by the incoming repair...only the character... that's why the repair skill. Go and check my full solo legendary with directives, with the deflector.

this changed in TU20, it's far less prevalent now, but still happens to a degree. you can also fix with positioning (they are actually shooting your legs but net effect is the same, bypassing the deflect shield); stand behind a low wall or alter your angle so they have no LoS on your legs and it will consistently reflect regardless of veterancy status. also better to use dogs and wall-e bots to bounce shots as they too *very rarely* will bypass the shield (seems more accidental than intentional, with the elite thing

The only issue is the time to kill is stupid long and half the time they just bypass the shield or just stop shooting period which again increases the amount of time inba mission as someone who doesn't have 30+ min to waste this isnt the optimal solution good build though
