The DJI Flip - The PROS and CONS You Need To Know

Just got word that the sensor in the Flip is the exact same sensor that's in the Mini 4 Pro! So essentially all the camera capabilities of the Mini 4 Pro, but in a more durable, palm launchable drone. What do you guys think?

That makes it hard to see if its worth switching. I have the 4 pro but the saftey of this flip is way better. Ive flown into things more than once and crashed because of it. This flip would prevent that but also hard to justify wasting money just to switch for the safety

Just picked up the neo motion fly more combo yesterday and the FPV is fantastic! Also buying the o4 air and building a custom FPV drone now, using the N3 goggles from the neo kit. Still a fantastic quick fun FPV intro for beginners, or even to show around to friends and family.

Do you think there is a higher risk of chopping off a finger with those prop guards? I noticed in your review you were holding the drone with your fingers through the guards

When you launch, you hold onto the body of the drone because you need to hold the mode button to take off. There's for sure a chance of nipping a finger when you hand catch though. You really need to keep your hand flat so your fingers don't slip through there. You're not gonna chop a finger off with those tiny props, but might not feel great

Agree. The Neo is still far safer… esp for kids. I let my 8 year old palm launch the Neo without any worries. This Flip doesn’t look as child friendly!

Great video! Question for ya, when using the RC for active track does the RC need to be on your person for the flip to continue following you? I ask because I’d like to set it with the RC while doing track workouts but needing to keep RC with me would get in the way.

I got the Neo Motion Combo over Christmas. I already have had the Mini 2 for a while now. Although the Flip has a better camera, for me the Neo is still better to fly in and around people as it’s smaller. I also love flying it FPV which I can’t really do with the Avata 2 as it’s above 250g. Here in the UK as it’s below 250g I can fly it pretty much anywhere and near people so it’s great to fly around the park. I think my combo will be the Mini 4 Pro when I upgrade and the Neo for quick shots and FPV. Plus the Neo is better for the kids as there is no folding etc to get wrong.

Totally agree! The NEO is a blast to fly in FPV mode. I think that's the best use case for that drone now that the Flip is out. The NEO really is the perfect beginner and just fun mess around FPV drone

It would, but it's pretty noisy. There's audio recording in the app that cancels out the prop noise, but then it sounds super odd because of the denoise

Yeah, I'm trying to figure those out. I'm a little wobbly under 3mph and then speed wobbles come in for me at about 12mph. Need to get a whole lot better on this thing!

This drone is turning out to pretty good, especially for vloggers! though it can't handle winds like the Mini 4 pro ad you will get "jello" effects in the video when filming in windy conditions, wonder if DJI will make this drone in different colours like the old Spark?

If you are a 107 Drone pilot you do not want the DJI Flop. The Pro has more features, much more stable in wind with 360 degree sensors and bonus RID. I do like the enclosed Props but still needs to be accessed by the owner. This is one of the biggest upsell videos yet on this drone.

dji flip is trying to get market interest, if successful then in the future it might be equipped with obstacle avoidance like mini 4 pro. If market interest is not good then it will be forced to drop the price.

The true vertical 4K is pretty dang rad on the Mini 4 Pro

IMO the biggest con is no remote ID. This could have been a Cat 1 drone for flights over people, instead (in the US) we got a toy drone that can’t be used under part 107… so no commercial use, no content creation, no social media… It’s very cool, but the US is not the intended market. Guess you could always try and find a really small RID module to attach to it, but that also takes it out of the sub 250g restriction for a cat 1 drone.

David what do you think of the smartphone App Glamour Effect feature with this drone?..one of the most useless thing DJI has ever done? of all the things consumers want to have as a feature or option for their drone tracking, RTH, etc etc and DJI goes and does this..lol ..gimmicky for sure!..lol Also the major CONS that others have mentioned is the inconsistency of controls and features/options you are able to use depending if you use a smartphone or the RC control..its not the same experience..you get some options left out and vice versa again depending on what you use to control it...which is not a good look..lol
