The DJI Mic 2 Is Not What You Think It Is.

Setting realistic expectations here for those looking for a proper comparison to "Studio Quality" audio. The DJI Mic 2 is GOOD. But not perfect by a long shot. It has some shortfalls when it comes to the sheer quality of the sound it captures, especially in run & gun scenarios.

Did you turn off the low cut filter? By default, the low-cut is turned on with the DJI mic 2, which can result in the audio feeling a bit hollow/compressed. Turning off the aggressive low-cut helps quite a bit. But, you have to go through the menu on the receiver to do this.

I stated in the video that the low cut filter is turned off, I turned it off first thing out of the box. It just doesn't have very good range.

I wanted to add a note about the automatic gain feature. The DJI Mic 2 actually has different levels of gain adjustment, and it also offers multiple camera gain presets.

I’ve seen a couple of vids where the out of box audio hasn’t been great but has been resolved by disabling the low cut filter which is on by default. Are you still unhappy with the sound profile? kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3azh6tnebOEiqssi=SNjUaIC309FCFY7O

I turned the low cut off as soon as I got it out of the box. For almost 400 dollars, definitely lol

*I bought the Mic 2 stand alone because I don't need the receiver as this is both, but I also have the Hollyland Lark Max and Lark M1. I'm not lookin for Pro. But I also have the MK200 which is ok for a shotgun mic but I Gave up on shotgun mics a while ago. But it's nice to see comparisons*

I'll definitely give it that! They're actually great for live streaming with a camera setup. Had absolutely 0 problems with connectivity over long stretches of time.

You don't need the entire kit. You only need one transmitter (microphone) record internally. Save the audio in your computer and then sync it with your video. But yes it's boxy and robotic and tiny thin.

It's pro because the device itself is more professional than the people that it's made for. This is the device that makes sure that the transceiver is turned on for you. Because it's for people that are 100% you going to make mistakes. Its for people that are trying to do everything themselves. I might get these for vlogging, or self filmed instructional videos where it will be overkill. But Ill use my feild recorder for important projects or client work. These days, Pro is an annoying buzzword. I get it, but it not a fair comparison, because its not pro gear, it's convenient gear. Of course new people dont know that but they are the ones it will appeal to.

Consumer mic, consumer sound and build. Pro mic systems like Lectros cost 10x this and give you pro sound and pro build/durability/reliability. For $349, kind of amazing that these work and sound as good as they do. If you use these or the Røde with the built in mics, they're going to sound like garbage. If you hook up a pro lavaliere like a Sanken COS-11, these sound so much better. The built in mics are for convenience and KZbinrs where "good enough" is good enough.

I hear a lot of the high end lavalier mics with locking mechanisms don't work on these due to fitting issues, I'll have to get the Sanken and see what it's like!

@@MasonAyresCreative The Sanken are $350 per lav so you're looking at $700 for two mic setup to plug into a consumer level device. It's time consuming and tricky to properly conceal a wired lav that defeats the ease of use of this. You can clip the lav on the collar but that results in a throaty sound...

compare this mic2 to on mic camera sound. That is what the improvement is to make sound better from on camera sound from action cameras. I would never try to record professional audio to an action camera while on a cruise walking through a rain forest of Puerto Rico, but I would set up shots with this mic2 and my action camera. Lame comparison.

@andywhiteing sure I understand the usage for action cameras, but action cameras aren't "pro" either. Anything would be better than that. The in camera audio on my EOS R sound leagues better, for reference.

You'll definitely be able to find a use for the extra money lol I wouldn't upgrade by any means. Better to get an actual pro setup.

Just stop this was a complete waste of time. if that's the case I might as well just go ahead and hook up my 251 or my Sony and hook it to my need free apps in and compare it. You sound real crazy.

While I agree with you that they aren't apples to apples, there's a point to be made. There's a certain threshold to calling something "pro" audio. I simply believe dji's marketing was somewhat deceitful in calling it professional.

You're spot on the! I've been thinking the exact same about the DJI Mic 2. I wonder why all the "big" reviewers haven't tested the actually sound quality. In my opinion the DJI Mic 2 lacks buttom and the highs are so sibilant and harsh. The frequency response sounds like 100 - 14.000 hz' ish. Most smartphones actually sounds better. Great video 👍 ... and NO the DJI Mic 2 is not a pro product.

Just got them as well…very good sound but I am very disappointed because with iPhones it doesn’t connect with Bluetooth unless you have the Blackmagic app. I need this connected by Bluetooth because I am already using my usbc port for my ssd.

Just bought them , they are showing up saturday , im just tired of catching bsckground noise , i run a paranormal team and im hoping this solves all the noise
