Just like in my country where in some weddings, the bride will not be wearing white so it's an okay colour to wear, but then there's this other wedding from a certain culture where red is the bride and groom's colour so no one else should be wearing it. So, yeah, definitely adjust to the type of wedding and where you live.

I agree in India people wear colorful wedding dresses, they are shiny and jewelry is also very important plus a bride wears different make up like bindi on forehead and mehndi and different jewelry, that is how a bride stands out than rest of the guests. I know many women who wore their wedding saree in some else's wedding just not with that much makeup or jewelry.

Seasonally appropriate means the colours that are common in nature at the time of the wedding. Think of flowers, foliage, etc. In spring time you can wear any pastel. In summer opt for bright colors. In autumn jewel tones are great. Winter is the least colourful season, which means you can wear any colour you want. But wear whatever you want, just avoid white and you will be fine :)
@Natinatification
@Natinatification Жыл бұрын
For Spring and Summer you will usually find dresses in lighter and brighter colors: pastels, bright orange, yellow, lime... Lighter and flowier textiles too. For Autumn and Winter you will tipically find darker and richer colors. More structured dresses, heavier cloth... Of course these are general (and in my opinion, good) advice and you can do whatever you want or whatever the bride/groom asked in the invitation hehe. But if you are ever unsure about what to wear to a wedding, this is a good start :) Also, midi length is the safest option. Only wear long (long as in covering your feet) gowns if the wedding is at night. Short, knee length and midi are okay for day and afternoon.

@stillattherestaurant

Don't wear red because in some places that means you slept with the groom. Black is sort of a funeral color so maybe not. Anything too flashy may distract from the bride. Basically dress like you are going to church or Sunday brunch. And, this is the most important part, ALWAYS follow the dress code that the bride(s) and/or groom(s) have laid out for the guests. If their dress code contradicts the first few rules, then respectfully do what they say. This is their day and you should do your part to make it as magical as possible and keep all the attention on the couple.

I'm having a vampire royalty themed goth wedding because me and my partner are both goth. The colors for our wedding we've already decided we'll be red, black, and gold. I'm just decided to tell everybody to wear something formal so they all look nice, and just wear black. They can wear dark makeup or natural makeup if they want to, they can wear jewelry, and as long as they're wearing something formal and not like a ripped up t-shirt and muddy jeans or boots, then it's fine. Besides, black is a flattering color no matter what kind of style you wear. Whether it's goth, any type of suit or dress or jumpsuit, just black is so flattering and it goes with everything. And they compare it with any color they want if they want to. If they want to wear just pure black and natural makeup and go for a clean girl look, I said go for it. They want to get gossed up in a different style, let them. As long as they're wearing something formal and black. As long as they're wearing something nice and flattering, and it's black, I don't care about the rest. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it's appropriate and black, I don't care if the men come and kills, or the women come and jumpsuits or pantsuits. I don't care who's wearing a dress and heels, I don't care who's winning the suit, they can do what they please.

Also, no kids because kids make messes and our families are kind of dramatic enough that we don't need kids adding on to the stress. And basically everybody just wear black but wear something you would wear to a formal event like something nice. As long as no one shows up in muddy boots or ripped jeans or old NASCAR T-shirts from 1979, then we're fine with it. Fortunately, I have someone who is a very chill person.

Actually wearing black to a wedding is also inappropriate, because it is the colour of grief. In our country red shouldn't be worn either because it is the colour that the bride changes into for the dance around midnight where they "sell" the bride for a couple of dances to the guests who can give money to the couple in exchange. try to have a color palette for at least the family members. photos will be STUNNING!!! we all wore navy, violet or a deep blush color and the colors complimented each other sooooo well!!! my mom had an orange flower arrangement that was the perfect pop of color. the pictures are just amazing. if you are just a friend it might not be necessary, but if you guys can and care about the pictures, try to implement a color palette 😊 and black is a no no in my country.

At my partner and I‘s wedding, we’ve specifically said we don’t give a fuck. Just show up well groomed, in nicer clothes than normal (that are a little less revealing than a classic frat party outfit), ready to celebrate. I promise that absolutely none of our guests will forget who’s getting married. And since we don’t play those weird ass “which color jelly-bracelet means you’re horny and which one means you’re crushing on someone”, luckily we won’t be assessing our loved ones for ulterior motives. So there’s very little riding on the colors our loved ones wear since thankfully, our relationship is stronger than a cousin in a cream top.

So i got married 1976 & my husbands-brothers-wife wore a solid white jumpsuit(pant). It had lining but it got warm at reception so she took liner off. So now shes a shapely blonde wearing a see-through white outfit. Seriously

I don't normally listen to these "classic style" or etiquette tips but this is good advice. Wearing a dramatic gown or super tiny club dress to a semi-formal wedding is disrespectful.

Guys, wearing a black dress to a wedding is also pretty rude. When everyone does this it looks like a funeral. Just because it's the easiest thing to do for you doesn't make it an appropriate choice! 🙈

I also learned not to wear vibrant red or pink because were I'm from that's either for the bride to wear or would take focus from the bride. Also, it helps to call the couple holding the wedding and ask about possible dress codes if it's not included in the invitation. My eldest sister actually made someone leave because they came in a red dress when it was said not to. It's their special day and you should always remember that.

Also make sure what colors you should actually wear! sometimes you can wear white or cream colors if the bride is going to be wearing a wedding dress that's a different color! like some brides want black dresses, some want purple, etc...! you don't want to go in black if that's what the bride will be wearing!

I went to my cousin’s wedding and was her flower girl and just so happened to pick out a dress that was the same colour as the bridesmaids dresses without knowing what colour their dresses were going to be. It was perfect and my cousin loved it since I fitted in perfectly with her bridesmaids.

I'm goth and even I know to not wear black to a wedding unless I was specifically allowed to xD My brother for example didnt care so I could wear black but my ex boyfriends stepmother asked me to not wear black, which is fine, I get that people dont necessarily want someone wearing black at their wedding.

I'm not really an expert or anything, but I work at a place that does weddings and I can safely say that this isn't really that good of a guide. I've heard a lot of talk about black being a super rude thing to wear to a wedding because that's associated with mourning clothes, so maybe don't wear a black dress? I get the thing with the skirt length, most wedding receptions will have a dance and wearing something too long or too short is a bit of a hinderence, but the thing with "matching colors to the season" only works with ambiguous themes, check with the bride or the wedding planner if you can't decide on a color pallette. Another thing to keep in mind is not to wear anything too flashy that draws too much attention to you, the guest. This day is celebrating the bride and groom, walking up to the chapel doors wearing haute coture without permission from the bride is a great way to get yourself disowned.

This all depends on the country. In my country everyone is supposed to wear white as the theme but you don't have to if you don't want to. It's basically open ended bit better if you all wear light or monocromatic colors

When it doubt, just ask the bride or someone else in the wedding (like a bridesmaid) if the color you’re planning is okay! More often than not they’ll appreciate that you care about making their day go smoothly and you’ll avoid any bad confrontations if you pick the wrong thing

Man, when I was growing up and even at my wedding... floor length maxi dresses and skirts were everywhere. And they definitely didn't overshadow anything, because they are that classic casual look. Just maybe not the iconic black and white chevron haha. But the straight skirt (NOT the tight) with knit fabric in no one way screams "Look at me!"

Don't wear black to a wedding in Britain unless specified by couple. It signifies you're not happy for the couple. Red signifies too that you desire the groom

Another one that I feel like isn't thought about enough is necklines and cut outs. Depending on the specific wedding, the same dress you wear on a night out with friends may not be appropriate for a wedding. I've seen a few too many people with necklines down to their stomachs and/or big cut outs that just aren't appropriate for most weddings.

Is the don't wear white thing only for if the wedding party is wearing white or is it for every color. I would want to wear a black wedding dress because goth so would everyone else not get to wear black but they could wear white? Because that seems a little depressing.
