interestingly, in my hometown Ulan-Ude we have used the word chav since 1990 - it sounds "chava". In Moscow where I live now nobody knows this word. It is weird how the word came all the way from the UK to Siberia but didn't stay in Central Russia

@@olegsoben That's very interesting! From what I know, the English term chav comes from the word 'chavi' which means boy in the Romani (gypsy) language, so maybe it has a common origin 🤔

You can't judge all women just by one. But I think that it is good that she left you. Germans must date Germans. I am Russian and lived in US for several years, different mentality. I was raised by American family, but i was 16, when i came to US, so many things i didn't accept or understood. I finished High school, then university, and then i went back to Russia. I can't live abroad, it supresses me.

Yeah, I have a similar story. Met a Russian woman at a clothing store and invited her for a drink at a bar since she wasn’t doing anything else after. We talked and had drinks for 30 minutes and then bluntly told me that I was too serious and not fun. Ah well. It happens.

Is 'gopnik' a rude word? I cannot find it in my R-E dictionary, and Google Translate gives me ***** as if it were an obscenity! Please advise, thanks.
@littlewhitelily0212

In Russian "gopnik-гопник" is a rude word, yes. Gopnik is a person who often spends time on the streets and try to rob someone, bothers girls in a very rude way and tries to look like the strongest and "the highest" one. This person in 99% isn't educated at all and wears old fashioned sport clothes. And he's never alone - only in a group of his supporters. Nowadays the number of these people has decreased, fortunately, that's why a person can name by this way another one behaving like "gopnik" Btw, a company of these guys is called "gopotA-гопотА", or just in a plural form "gOpniki-гОпники"

It's not a rude word per se, in that it's not a swearword, or a taboo word. But if you call someone that, even if they are quite obviously a gopnik, they'll be offended.

@fedoresko
@fedoresko 3 ай бұрын
@@zloychechen5150 it is defenitely rude. Like calling someone a thief would obviously be rude unless he's proudly state himself as a thief (unlikely). And no gopnik would call himself like that.
