When I was 11yrs old my grandmother gave me a male Doberman out of her litter, I named him Titan, and although I owned many dogs over my 50 years Titan was clearly the most intelligent of all of them. Titan lived for 17 years, well into my military career, and when it was his time to go he went to his favorite spot behind my shed, curled up into a ball and went to sleep for the last time.... Admittedly writing this just made me shed a few tears. Titan wasn't the first dog in my family, his grandfather Boss was, but Titan was the first dog that belonged to me, and he felt like one of my brothers more than just a pet. I have a portrait of Titan hanging in my living room today, and I will never forget him.

Here's a question do Doberman's recreationaly bark or are they mostly pretty quiet. My neighbor had a Rottweiler that barked for about 10 hours a day. Also how fast does a dog need to be to scare someone out of your house or backyard?

My Lailah was 15 years old and mourning the passing of our Labrador Retriever, who sadly passes in a car accident. Dobermanns are excellent mothers, and she’d raised our Onyx as her own pup. I trekked to the local shelter and returned with a Pitbull/American Staffordshire (officially labeled as an American Staffordshire). She raised that pup as her own again. She taught him to be just as alert as she was, essentially he’s very much a slightly more laid-back Dobermann in his behaviour, Amstaffies are extremely empathetic and he senses that his adoptive Mom was getting creaky… so they’d team up. One night, they raised the alarm and when my dogs raise the alarm I don’t ask questions. I just open the door and let them do their job. Within minutes they returned and we all went to bed. The next morning we found proof there’d been an intruder: a brand new pair of jeans with the side seam ripped open cleanly from ankle to hip. Just a little bit of blood at the ankle. We called the police, who had a great laugh at the thought of some would-be burglar traipsing around the countryside in his boxers… The officers returned after their shift to give our dogs a treat. Worth noting: the entire yard was fenced off, the gate closed, signs posted saying ‘beware of the dog - enter at your own risk’ and the signs were well lit. My Dobermann Lailah has passed. My Amstaff (called Zen because nothing fazes him) is laying at my feet right now. His bum facing me, his nose facing the door. Staffies don’t typically do this but he was raised by a Dobermann. In turn, he raised my daughter’s Chihuahua. And yes, her bum is also always turned our way, her face out to guard us. None of her littermates do this. I like to think it’s behaviour that got handed down from dog to dog.

We had a Doberman when I was a child, he literally followed me everywhere growing up protecting me from my stupidity. He on occasion grabbed me and dragged me back from running across the road, wouldn’t let anyone near me if he didn’t know them. They are incredibly clever dogs that care little for anyone outside their pack, they will never seek a fuss from anyone outside their circle and care even less if outsiders try to fuss them. They are incredibly pack loyal and make fantastic nanny’s for your kids to grow up with.

I had two when I grew up, one was hit by a big rig on the main road, the poor pup crawled home and died in my arms. I swore I never wanted another dog, the heartache was way too much. About two years after I found myself working at my uncle's farm where I spend most of my summers. Makes you strong and the neighbours daughter was cute. I was watching over some farm animals and all of a sudden I hear a commotion behind a shed. Tubbe was extremely underfed, had a thick heavy chain around his neck and wanted to be left alone. Got him some chicken pieces and gained his trust over the next days. We were scouring the papers for someone putting up an ad. Nothing, he came around and when I took of his chain I could honest to God hear him sigh. We had a great live, I was in my late teens and he followed me everywhere. I put him on a leash for show but I could just drop it, he would not run away and he would not attack anyone unless they came at him or me. I took him for training and we had fun. This breed of dogs is so amazingly smart, it is almost like a human. If he barked, there was something happening, he would never bark otherwise. He was sad when I had to go to work, locking myself into an office, how dare I? I had him for 11 years so he must have been 13 or 14 total. He hated going to the vet, but as long as I was there with him he powered through. Tubbe - he is still missed.

100% true. Good Doberman's do this. When I and my siblings were babies, our doberman would not let anyone come near us (apart from my mum and dad of course) without sniffing them over to check them out. He would always position himself between (one of) us and the midwife or whoever came over. My mum had to explain to them to take a seat and be calm whilst he sniffed them to check them out and when he had given them the 'clear' 😂, he would stay right by my mum and watch us and my mum continually until the midwife left lol. @@DobermanPlanet Another thing about our breed? They are so adaptive to new situations in life. Kaiser is coming from the country, where he was ONLY on a leash to visit the Vet. I had to move a few years ago, into an apartment complex that is 55+ and thank god, with the help of the Veteran's adminsitration, he lives here with me. There are a lot of Dogs here, a few bigger ones, but mostly the little yappy dogs. At 9 years old, Kaiser went from living in the country with no leash, to living in an apartment and having to be on a leash. I would have lived in my truck if I couldn't have taken him. Doberman was on the dangerous breed dogs list here, but the manager of this facility has come to love him as most others have. I have a girlfriend here, who has a pomeranian and she yaps at him all the time LMAO! But my girlfriend loves Kaiser so much and so goes out of her way for him? He started to accept both of them as part of the pack. It took WELL OVER A YEAR, but now? He looks forward to having my girl here and seems he was in need of some Woman love. LOL! I also wound up with a kitten who was abandoned outside here last year and Kaiser has not only adapted to her, protected her outside, before i took the kitten in. I have some amazing pictures. I finally took the kitten in and now she's been here for over a year. Kaiser can NOT be without me at all. He will scream in the apartment if I need to go somewhere without him. I had a total knee replacement Dec 1st and the Veteran administration was great with that too. They let me take Kaiser down to the new facility in Tulsa OK for all of my testing. Of course he couldn't be with me in the hosptital when I had my surgery and was there for a few days, but lucily he had bonded with my girlfriend who took great care of him back at the apartments we live at She said he would HOWL sadly every few hours, but I'd call from my cell phone and she'd put me on speaker and his little stubby tail would wag like he was a puppy again. I left the hostpital 3 days early to be with him. I was on a walker for over a month, but my girl would walk Kaiser. He'd do his business and pull her to comeback in to be with his Daddy. People ask me why I do all I do for him and get him top quality dog food ( I think it's so important) and spend so much money on him. I answer? Because he would do it for me. It's a Doberman thing, they don't understand. I was so sorry when you lost Milo. After my Kaiser crosses the rainbow bridge? I won't get another Doberman in this apartment complex, it's not ideal for them or another dog for that fact. I'm getting older, but will continue to watch your channel to get my Doberman Fix. People just can't understand, unless they have Doberman.

The DPCA, Doberman Pinscher Club of America, had on their website the one word to best describe the breed. Most know about the loyalty being off the charts. Their word was “discerning”. The well bred ones (I’ve had 4) know the difference in a threat and a weird person who bears watching, but requires no intervention. They do NOT go off half-cocked. My best dog ever, a red male, had different barks for “look what I found,” “someone just drove up,” “you can walk down the road all you want, but just letting you know I’m here in case you decided to try to enter my property,” “calling to the rest of the pack,” and “REAL potential threat observed. Come out here, Daddy, and tell me what you think. Otherwise, I may need to intervene.”

Both sexes bonded great with family and friends, but my females do not let me out of their sight. That’s hard to explain. My males were a little more aloof. They all have been trained the exact same way, but my females haven’t pushed as hard as my males. They all listened great, the males were more stubborn. They all cry and whimper when they see someone they love or when they recognize where we’re going in the car. There has been zero difference with males or females in that aspect. But my females have been easier. My females are every bit as protective as my males and protective of every family member. My males were actually more temperamental and if they didn’t like someone, they made no bones about it. My females were easier called off. My females haven’t played as rough with me as my males did. My males would catch me not watching as close and come barreling towards me and not let off as easy. My females will slow it down faster. That’s the differences I’ve seen. They all are great family pets, no matter their sex. Just for a first time owner, I personally would recommend a female. I have 2 females because my older female got along better with female dogs on a whole than she did a male. She would fight a male and was more tolerant of a female. So, every dog is different,

Thanks for another great video John! One thing I really like about my Government is that she is primarily a defensive dog, meaning she will not leave my side and protect me at the same time. I have to restrain her from becoming offensive. But she is so command obedient so that she will stays with me, even though she clearly wants to go on the offensive when she senses any kind of a threat. And it's their intelligence that makes them so great, in comparison to any other breed of protection dog. Multi faceted and multi purposed, she's a perfect companion dog for me. And i'm really glad I didn't get one until I retired, though! Thanks again for loads of fantastic Thanks not just for us doberman owners, but also for those considering owning this majestic breed. I'm glad I waited until retirement to get my doberman because they do need lots of time with their families as well as interaction. And my dog is with me 24-7; Just a sheer pleasure to be with all the time for so many reasons. Having owned other types of dogs I can attest to the fact that the Doberman is just so different and better from than all other breeds. I don't know how many dog owners. I have talked to who have owned Belgian melanois, German shepherds, rottweilers, pit bulls, boxers and a number of other breeds. And they always tell me the same thing; that their Doberman was the best dog they ever owned hands down. Take care and be well.

After years of Doberman Pinschers I respect my breed so much. Your statistics are correct! We actually clocked one of our Dobermans at 38 miles an hour. Dobermans are the closest breed to a human being.

I'm also a big Dobi fan, we had 3 of them, 2 females and 1 male. We got one of the females from an animal shelter. They found her half starved and with a large scar on her back. But she was the nicest and friendliest dog I've ever known. But she was BIG!! When she got back into shape, my hand couldn't even go halfway around her neck. Anyone who didn't know her or had unfriendly intentions would never have dared to go near her. But I'll be honest, I prefer a Doberman without cropped ears and with a tail, they have so much more expression.

The comparison with other breeds after every aspect you talk about is amazing and is both very informative and interesting. I am thinking of becoming a dog owner for the first time and so far no other breeds interests me as much as dobermans.

I had a male European Doberman 20 years ago and he was the sweetest dog ever, but he never allowed anybody but family into the yard. It took me 20 years to get another dog and it's a fearless male Doberdor. He's a handful but worth it. Love Dobermans, super intelligent and family velcro dogs.

One of the reasons why my family has our Doberman Josie. Because this has become a dangerous world & a Doberman will let us know if someone's come & are scarier than a gun (we have them, but a Doberman is faster to get to intruders). Josie has also proven her loyalty & bravery. She'll be ready if an intruder comes.

I love this channel! Me and my husband are in the process of getting a doberman puppy. We have met the breeder, now waiting for the female to get into heath.. So we have to wait for about 5 months. The breeder will know the pups very well so he will pick the pup for us. Female or male, we rather have a male but we want the dog who fits with our energy the best. With ears and tail! ❤ We can't wait and hope all the pups will be very healthy for years to come. This is our first doberman! 🎉❤

Looking into getting a personal protection dog in a year or two, and your videos have certified that I have made the right decision in choosing to go with a Doberman. It really comes down to what you said: This is the only breed created for the sole purpose of personal protection!
@ryanthompson8029 Жыл бұрын
If you want a personal protection you will need to train the dog in personal protection as no matter what the breed it will not do a thing...family trained personal dogs in personal protection and property protection trust me I know what im talking about, for those who honestly think just because they have a doberman gsd rottweiler etc will naturally protect them well they can think again.

We had a doberman at my family's house for about a week once - she immediately understood that it was her temporary home, was totally friendly to the other dogs and just generally the sweetest thing you could imagine, just wanted to cuddle all day. Not leash trained very well by the real owners though, and holy cow, she was strong.

I’m new to this breed and I can’t see him do anything bad, but I have had a bruised lip, several black eyes, plenty of scratches all over my body and even several bites… all during playing… he is so sweet to us… but I can just imagine if he is trying to protect us how the other person will end up. He just stares at people, he doesn’t bark when we’re out and about and I think that scares people more!👀. He is an amazing dog and he is so smart, he has me well trained….. I’m the mama but he does listen to my husband even though my hubby really doesn’t give him lots of attention. Great Breed for sure!

My first house was in a rough neighborhood, and after we had a break-in, I got over my years-long fear of dogs and we got a Doberman. We had a 6 foot tall fence in the back yard, and an amazing number of creepers discovered over the years that they COULD in fact jump that high when my boy Dresden was bearing down on them!

I own two staffies and they are the most loving dogs I have ever had. Most dogs are loving but they differ in their character, staffies are mad, they run around and around bumping into stuff, knocking things over as they play, but at the same time they are very loyal and any delivery guy comes to the house knows they are just behind the door..lol I was thinking of a doberman pincer before I got my staffies but they were so expensive I decided against it, although lovely dogs, here in the UK they go for mega bucks.

He is a year and a half old and as soon as he came to our lives he fit in like a glove. He patrols the house and backyard and barks when he needs to but in the house he is very polite, quiet and extremely loving. I have 3 young children and he loves to play with them but he is very careful around them. He is Amazing and its only been a few weeks!!!

I had 2 Dobermans. 1 my female I got when she was a puppy. I picked her out of 40 puppies who were all let loose in a closed room at the same time. I chose Princess who was one of the smaller puppies because she chose me and my girlfriend. She would do anything to be right in our faces licking. lol. She would jump over or go under the other puppies to be that one. She was the one who wanted us so badly. Now by picking her out of the whole bunch by letting the dog pick us. We got a dog who wanted nothing more than to please us. She learned things so fast. Now I also do not believe in hitting or scaring a dog to train them. The reward tactic is the best way. They learn very quickly what bad dog and good dog means. I never had a dog that was so smart. Princess new what I wanted before I did. lol Now Princess full grown was 65 pounds and extremely quick. I also got a Male that was 120 pounds and 2 yrs old. He was mistreated. He was hit and beat as he would drop to the ground if you raised your hand like you were going to hit him. I get upset when I see a Dog do that. I am glad that I got to give him a good loving home where he would never be hit again. Ripper turned out to be a good dog. He was not an Aggressive Dog as he would lick you to death. lol

My father had a Dobermann kennel in Germany for over 30 years......I also had a Dobermann...when he died.....I didn't want a dog until I retired......today I have a 35 kg Leavitt Bulldog and I can say that he can absolutely keep up with a Doberman (not with the top speed but guaranteed on the first 50m and that's what matters and he also jumps 2m high) His character is just a lot cooler than a Dobi....,Thank you Mr. Leavitt for this trusty Super Bulldog.

I've had Doberman my entire life. I work in LE, and am a single mother. I have never worried about leaving my house, not once. I used to joke and say I'd love to see what happens if someone ever tried to break in. I wish LE agencies would utilize the breed, but sadly, I only know of one that does. Ours has every kind of Shepard and a Lab. Maybe one day... Thanks for the video.

Lost my 10 year old Doberman in February this year, still have her sister (they were a litter apart), who will be 12 next week, she really misses her little sister and is now only eating one a meal a day. We have tried all her favourite foods but to no avail. We have had her to the vets twice now but they cannot find anything wrong with her. I think she is just grieving. It is heartbreaking to watch. In March we got a new 12 week old pup and although she plays with her and let’s her sleep on her beside her she is still not eating. Hopefully she will regain her appetite soon.

Most of these apply to my Dobbie. She is insanely athletic and has taken my hat off my head (for reasons. Not sure what those reasons are.) She is not particularly brave, though. With that said, she will face down her fears to stand near me, as she is crazy loyal. But she clearly would very much prefer not to stand down a scary, scary garbage truck (her #1 fear). She also might not be the scariest guard dog as she loves people. But she does love me best. If someone so much as makes a rude remark towards me, she will get close to me and growl a bit.

I had a dobie as a farm dog 2000 - 2009. He was a great dog. He loved the horses and would take naps in the field with them. He was boss of the cattle and absolute demon to people who tried poaching my mango trees in summer. A good foot warmer on a cold night too. Sadly he died from the bite of an Eastern Brown snake. I was just too far from a vet to save him.

May have mentioned, when I jumped up on a fallen tree, in the National Forest, up jumped a huge black bear, we were about 2-3ft apart face to face, he was about to hit me with a right cross, huge claws and opened his mouth showing me his teeth, boy talk about smell. instantly he got a look of fear in his eyes and started to turn, my male dobie and my female shephard were instantly there, Samson flew in the air, hit him full force just as Nicky she came over the tree and also hit him, now heading down the canyon, with 2 really vicious friends of mine, intent on protecting me, I watched them chase him up the other side of the canyon, they were gone 45 min. time to get my gun from the truck, they came back, Sam had blood all over his mouth, but not his. in 1969, my high school friend Roy Ducate and his girlfriend were mauled an she eaten alive Roy 600 stiches, same night another girl was eaten in Glacier Park, see Glacier night of the Grizzlies, PBS doc. here on the tube. I know my dogs saved me from the fight of my life.........When God made dobermans he broke the mold. you are doing a great job on Doberman Planet, I watch them all, I have had 5 in my 75yrs. 🐻🐕🦺🐕🦺👍

I have my first dobie now. He is just over a year old, friendly, playful. If I had a break in, he would tell them where my jewelry is, help carry the stuff to car, hold the door for them, ask them if they need a cold beer. My parrot is more scary than my dobie. So my dobie did not get the memo he is for protection.
