+redraven24 The pain in her eyes, she never knew Donna, only what the Doctor told/tells her about her. I can only imagine the pain the Doctor feels when he has to take away DoctorDonna's memories, pretty much 'killng' that part of Dona. I think that must be one of the hardest things that the Doctor ever had to do. Donna was an equal for him, she didn't fawn over him, wasn't infatuated with him, she was his friend, as close to an equal as anyone could be, even before she became the DoctorDonna. Donna, in my opinion, is the best modern-day companion, because she challenged the Doctor, called him out when he needed it.
@redraven248 жыл бұрын
Greg Treadwell Donna is my favourite too. Her sass owned the whole relationship and brought out a different side of the Doctor. River and Donna are equal in my love. Donna for being, like you said, his equal without the romantic angle. A fiercely loyal friend that took no BS and enjoyed tackling new problems right along side of him. And River for having a strong romantic angle that was mature and not being so infatuated that she was afraid to call him out. She was fearless in her reprimands and fierce in her love and adoration. Two beautifully balanced female characters in my opinion. Broke my heart to see them both leave the Doctor :( And both 'dying' in order to save him too.

3:30. That's classic Doctor. The way he lends weight to something he might only mention once. The way experience on his scale can make you creepy as hell and you never realize it. @BigBadMonkey2310 жыл бұрын
I would LOVE to see the Vashta Nerada get brought back. They're just like the Weeping Angels, tapping into that primal fear in the back of your mind. In fact, they might be even worse. The Weeping Angels can only kill you. But what if the Vashta Nerada were to evolve and become even more deadly? Eating not just flesh, but thoughts and emotions and memories? They could consume the universe itself. The gnawing darkness. The Hungry Shadow. Definitely need to be brought back. :D
@Bluesit329 жыл бұрын
Nah, the Vashta Nerada aren't villains. They're a hazard at best. All they want is to live in their "forest". That they could be talked down shows the lack of malice. A villain would have pressed its advantage...or gone back on its word. Instead, they bargained quite readily. On the other hand...if someone imprisoned them...turned them into an unwilling tool, that could work. And in the end, the master mind ends up trapped with them as the Doctor and company depart. Oh, the Doctor would offer to save them...but they'd be so confident that they can control the swarm. They'd be wrong. Very wrong.
@BigBadMonkey239 жыл бұрын
cak01vej Daleks? Cybermen? I don't know of too many reoccurring foes aside from those two factions. Still, the Vashta Nerada are probably one of the most dangerous things the Doctor has ever faced. There's no cool little gadget or loophole to exploit when the night itself wants to eat you. OH! EUREKA! I know exactly who would be stupid enough to make a weapon out of swarms of meat-eating shadows: Space Nazi's led by a the cryogenically preserved head of Hitler.

Odds are, 11 fixed/upgraded the one that got broken in the Eleventh Hour and gave it to her at some point before the scene in the Last Night short. Moffat's made it clear, if he brings her back, it'll be because it's important to the story, not because there was a plan to do so. It's really interesting how some of the greatest episodes seem to have the lowest special effects budget. In this one, they're filming in a library and the primary threat is a guy in a skeleton mask and a spacesuit. In Blink, they primarily film in an abandoned house while the characters are running from people in grey facepaint who canonically cannot move on-camera. They seem too simple to be scary or suspenseful, and yet the writing ABSOLUTELY sells it. "Limitation breeds creativity," I suppose!

Can the Vashta Nerada be burned? Not much survives fire, but it would be even more scary if they were somehow fireproof.
@Shiirow5 жыл бұрын
probably not, fire was created to keep warm, cook food... and keep the darkness at bay.

Best doctor who arc. most "wow" most suspense. most tension. BEST plot. BEST rule of cool factor. using the BEST cast. an episode that makes you go "this is why I fear the dark. the dark itself is hungry and i see WHAT- IN DUSTY SUNBEAMS?"

It's sad how this is one of the most saddest episodes for River Song's story and we didn't even know her.

“Not every, but any” is such a terrifying realization. The fear of uncertainty, not every shadow will essentially kill you, but it has the possibility to kill you and you have no way to discern one you can be in and can’t be in.

For some reason, Doctor Moon reminded me of Morpheus, the way he started explaining about the real world ,and the fantasy world. I can't believe it's all by coincidence
@liftlash986 жыл бұрын
Doctor who loves to homage. Just look at the Kubrick references in Empty child/doctor dances, the star wars references in the end of time part 2 and the impossible planet/satan pit literally having the same premise as event horizon. The matrix references in this 2 parter are no coincidence, the 2 worlds look visually distinct, the female lead knowing she should be in love with the male lead but he doesn't understand how she feels that way, obviously doctor moon is literally Morpheus and the fact that the fake world is where people who used to live, now live out their lives on a hard drive. What makes this better than the matrix though is the characters actually have an ounce of personality to them unlike everyone's performances in the matrix which remind me of a plank of wood.

Probably nothing; The Vashta Nerada sees the Angel, and the Angel will be a stone statue. And you can't eat stone. And neither can you touch a shadow.

This is one of the Doctor Who episodes that freaked me out the most along with the Angels ones, the thought that there is something that you cannot see, that is creeping up behind you to kill you is scary enough but the fact that there is little if nothing you can do about it is absolutely terrifying

This is SUCH a beautifully crafted monster reveal. Just a toss of a drumstick, a quick sound cue and camera cut and BAM, the horrific danger revealed as the meatless chicken bone clatters to the floor. Honestly that alone puts the Vashta Nerada near the top of my favorite DW monsters/villains.

"Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they're wrong. Because it's not irrational. It's Vashta Nerada." As soon as I heard that line I turned off all the lights in the house, and the episode was much better for it

Dimitris Filippas she is soo funny, good, funny reactions and many other things!
@CONOW40610 жыл бұрын
Dimitris Filippas She is insecure, feels she is unimportant, and frankly her personal ability is lower than average companions, and she constantly feels bad about it while keeping that sense of humor. That makes her more humane, much more like us. I love her for that.
@NeverStopMotion12310 жыл бұрын
She's much more independent than some of the other companions. Take Rose as an example: She just followed the doctor most of the time and always needed to be rescued. Donna trusts the doctor but she doesn't usually depends on him too much. I love her for that. She's great.
