Tumblr Cat Probably the best thing about Capaldi is that he carries the breadth of the previous Doctors in his performance. Even if he doesn't do it consciously, he was too much of a fan as a kid for it not to color his present. Along with Hartnell, he'll sometimes do something that feels so much like Baker. Unfortunately, the only other old Doctor I'm familiar with is Pertwee, and Capaldi doesn't seem like him at all. Others will have to chime in if they think Capaldi ever feels like he is channeling any of the other Doctors.

This is honestly one of my favorite First Doctor episodes. I don't get why it has such a bad reputation. It's hysterical. I guess people didn't get the joke; the Doctor doesn't land in the actual wild west, he winds up in a western. That's what makes it so funny. They're sending up some of the tropes of the western genre.

Corral” - it’s about Mythology, not History. It’s about Hollywood - just like The Feast of Steven.

Such a fun story; I love it! For any newcomers getting into this serial or Classic Who in general, a word of advise: don't watch more than one episode of The Gunfighters in a sitting. Spread it out. It can make all the difference between enjoying this episode, and wanting to jam a pick through your ears for comfort.

***** They said they hoped he wasn't expecting one - the Doctor's used to high-tech concepts, and this is the wild west, where everything's pretty raw with zero technology. So, if he has to lose a tooth or anything, there's no numbing for it. For comparison, it'd be like taking someone from the big city, telling them you're bringing them somewhere where they can cook their food, and there's nothing but tools to make a campfire. "I hope you weren't expecting an oven!"

Actually it's an anesthetic not a sedative. An anesthetic numbs the surrounding area and a sedative calms you down and stops you from feeling anxious. It is pretty funny the idea of the doctors companions laughing at the thought of the doctor getting his tooth pulled out from the root with a rusty old pair of pliers without any kind of anesthetic.

Yes, it was a comedy. Donald Cotton wrote this and the Myth Makers, and he was known as a comedy writer. The Romans and The Chase were also comedies- they really pushed the boundaries of what Doctor Who could be back in the Hartnell era.

DalekTheSupreme It was always intended to be comedic and people hate it for that and because all the american accents sound ridiculous and because the Doctor had a toothache. But like The Chase this was always intended to be comedic, imo Hartnell's era is quite dark and stories like this and The Chase really feel fresh, at least for me, I do enjoy The Gunfighters and The Chase, shame I'm in the minority.
