It might have been a blessing in disguise that Eccleston only did one series. Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor and even the Fifth Doctor each ended their tenures with a sense that there was more that could have been explored with each of their characters. While the Ninth Doctor's life despite being shore felt more complete due to RTD heavily focusing more on character as we actually see the Ninth Doctor's character evolve as series 1 went on. Ninth Doctor is one of the best written incarnations the show has ever had.

To be fair, Peter Davison only got his footing on the character at his last moment, and Colin Baker was literally fired and cut from the show in a make-do season. McCoy as well, Cartmel already got an entire idea of what his next season supposed to be.
@manis15514 жыл бұрын
@@Alia-bc3rc I know that all three actors never really had the chance to fully put their stamp on the characters due to various things that happened behind the scenes. I agree that both McCoy and Colin Baker were treated unfairly as the BBC clearly wanted Doctor Who off air. But I was mostly speaking from a storytelling aspect as the Ninth Doctor had less episodes than the three Doctors I mentioned but he still managed to feel like a real person with flaws that he has to overcome while at times the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor felt like caricatures. It had nothing to do with the actors but more to do with how they were written.
@Nikioko4 жыл бұрын
And originally, the War Doctor was the Ninth Doctor. John Hurt was only written into the continuity because Eccleston refused to participate in the 50 years anniversary special. So, at the beginning of season 27, the Doctor has done so much before that the audience doesn't know and hear of bit by bit later.

Eccleston because he was give this layered complex Doctor in 1 series that many couldn’t in multiple, Tennant because he my proper introduction to the Doctor stateside and Capaldi because his was the first I saw live from beginning to end. Smith’s Doctor was fine, but I didn’t jive with him the same as the others or Whittaker’s. I’m not sure if it was because of Moffat’s handling of series arcs or 11’s penchant for these amazing speeches only to get undercut by his enemy (a knock against 13 as well, but she gets the edge because of little things).

This series had Russel T Davies' fingerprints all over it. He wrote fully eight of the thirteen episodes of the first season, and in general probably had more control over the show than any showrunner has had since. And he was determined to keep the show faithful both to its roots and to *his* own filmography. That meant the usual RTD mix. Soap opera influences. Social commentary. An abundance of Welshness. And of course, meaningful LGBT representation in Captain Jack, which we may take for granted now, but fifteen years ago, on a mainstream family programme ("think of the children!") was a bold and even transgressive statement. The funny thing is that none of the elements above were particularly synonymous with classic Who. The idea of "Eastenders in space" had never really been done before, and the overtly political turn the show had taken in the Sylvester McCoy era had ended in cancellation. It's pretty amazing that the revival got greenlit. (But I'm so glad it did.)

I have and will always love Doctor Who. I've really not been happy with Doctor Who. After Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat left, Doctor Who really went downhill. Series 10 was a sign that Doctor Who that was starting to run out of ideas. Chris Chibnall's bad writing, lack of fresh new ideas for the show, retconning and his questionable poor decisions not only let the show down, but also let Jodie Whittaker down too. When Jodie Whittaker was announced I had mixed feelings. I never liked the idea that The Doctor being a woman and it concerned me cos it may not had worked and it could ruin the show and it would not be Doctor Who anymore and it didn't make sense. However, I gave Jodie Whittaker a fair chance and I actually hoped she would a great Doctor Who. How wrong I was! I realize now that it's not Jodie Whittaker's fault and that at the end of the day it is Chris Chibnall's fault. Chris Chibnall cast her and he lazily wrote the character of The 13th Doctor. Most of Whittaker's acting and performances weren't fantastic, but in some episodes she did give very good performances and I think she tried to be better in the role in Series 13. "The Timeless Children" the Series 13 finale made me so angry and it convinced me that it was time to take a break from watching Doctor Who. Chris Chibnall really went too far especially with screwing up the mythology of The Doctor and the Time Lords and revealing Time Lord society was all built on a lie and that The Doctor (The Timeless Child) has unlimited Regenerations and this really made the rules that Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times and the 2013 Xmas special "Time of the Doctor" redundant. If The Doctor has unlimited regenerations why did the Time Lords give The Doctor a new Regeneration cycle on Trenzalore? Pointless! Like the finale of Game of Thrones in 2019, "The Timeless Children" is one of the worst finales/season finales of a TV show ever. Giving Doctor Who a break wasn't a easy decision to make. Hopefully, if Doctor Who doesn't cancelled and if I heard Doctor Who will start getting better again, I may start watching it again when the time is right.

Just been rewatching nuwho from the start, just finished series 2. You really do forget how good Chris Eccleston was as the Doctor, and his relationship with Rose was great. Yet as good as Rose was in season 1 I have discovered with some regret that Rose in season 2 is annoying. Where she would call out Nine for his brashness she basically hero worshiped Ten, which makes the relationship less interesting. And then she would metaphorically stamp her foot whenever she didn’t get her way..... I guess what I’m saying is that ten and Rose is not the great engaging relationship that I remember.

When Doctor Who returned 15 years ago I really thought it was a reboot and Doctor Who had been started all over again and it had nothing to do with the classic series or the 1996 TV movie. From my point of view, Christopher Eccleston was William Hartnell and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) was his first companion to travel with him in the TARDIS and instead of leaving Gallfrey to explore Time and Space in the TARDIS, The Doctor would be the only surviving Time Lord and is left wandering when Gallifrey is destroyed in the Time War which The Daleks would later be revealed to be the alien race The Time Lords fought against in the Time War. I later realized it wasn't a reboot and it was a sequel series and a direct continuation of the classic series when Elisabeth Sladen returned as Sarah Jane Smith and John Leeson returns as the voice of K9 and nods and references to the classic series and Sarah mentioning to Rose some of her adventures with The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker). Thanks to Russell T. Davies, the revived series of Doctor Who was huge success and Doctor Who became more popular than ever before. "Rose" which introduced The 9th Doctor and Rose Tyler was a good start to the revived series and it was fast paced and it reminded me of the classic TV show "The Avengers". Christopher Eccleston was a good Doctor and he was across between Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy. He had good chemistry with Billie Piper. Such a shame it was his only season in the role. But, it worked out for the best. David Tennant (The Tenth Doctor) is my favourite Doctor and he was brilliant in the role and when David Tennant took over from Christopher Eccelston, Doctor Who really became a more popular TV program and gained a new generation of fans and viewers. The revived series of Doctor Who is not a reboot, it is the new adventures of The Doctor and the show was brilliantly modernized and Russell T. Davies successfully brought Doctor Who into the 21st Century. The revived series really improved with the acting, pacing, writing, storyteller, character developments, special effects, makeup and the change of format. 2005 was the right year and right time to bring Doctor Who back to TV screens.

But I still don't know where I would reccommend for my friend to start. My personal favourite doctor is either 10 or 11, 11 mainly for nostalgia. I don't want my friend to start on Eccleston and then not like it and be discouraged to continue watching. But then again, it's a great series for information about doctor who as a show. What series would you recommend for a beginner? (Modern Who)

I never saw Doctor Who in the classic Era, but I did see the movie. I had no idea that it was supposed to be a children's show! I just thought it was good sci-fi!

Through the luxury and convenience of streaming services, I've been able to understand and accept that I'm only interested in watching episodes from the classic series indirectly, because of my love of the show since the '05 revival. It took me a bit to come to that realization,but once I did, I opted to not actively attempt to watch the old show. If not for what came later, I would never have attempted to watch any of them. I didn't think it was BAD or anything. But it's like the show I would come to enjoy so much......"wasn't done cooking yet."

One thing about the TV movie is that we really need more of the 8th doctor, he was so good but he could have been better

Correction: Christopher Eccleston, wasn't force to leave... he chose to quit ,because of the fear of being type cast, but the mean reason was due to him falling out with some of the production team at the time that were working on Doctor who

Do comments with "que*r" automatically get taken down now? Cos I've tried to recommend RTD's Que*r as Folk *three times now!!* (on different channels.) Well, check it out. And The Writer's Tale!

@@alfiethomas5632 - I don't even bother trying to put into words how much I love it. You just *know* those characters. There's barely even any plot, watching it is just you and Russell revelling in how quickly you understood them.

How far the series has come from “a ordinary man being alive” being the most dangerous thing and crashing the entire universe, to the doctor having been involved in creating at least three immortal(-ish?) entities to my knowledge when I stopped watching the series.

Even with only 1 series The Ninth Doctor ended his ark perfectly. He would have been The Best Doctor even with one series. But later episodes destroyed this. 1. Tenth Doctor still mourning over time war when nine already accepted that. 2. Nine not being the one who destroyed Gallifrey. 3. Gallifrey is actually okay and turns out Nine is mourning for nothing.

Chris Ecclestone is what Peter Capaldi should have been. On paper, Capaldi's arc was just as good as Ecclestone's. Maybe even better. However, in practice, Ecclestone made Capaldi look incompetent in comparison. Ecclestone understood that, even at his worst, the Doctor is not a sociopath. Capaldi, a lifelong fan, played him like a man who had no empathy. It made the "Am I a good man?" arc come across as a sociopathic narcissist looking for validation, not a genuinely good man questioning his identity.

Is the series 1 blu Ray good people say it’s 24fps rather than the 25fps it was broadcasted at and it makes it slow and some reviews say the cgi is a bit ruff because the upscaling if anyone reply I will thank you
@HarboWholmes4 жыл бұрын
I use the Blu-Rays for my reviews, so you can see for yourself the image quality lol. I really don't think the slowdown is noticeable and the CGI is obviously not going to be amazing because it wasn't to start with
