It feels weird how in every other roguelike, I'm addicted to taking elite fights, but the challenges in slice and dice , just... Even when it's a good item, I don't really feel like taking it.

I mean, if you think you can take it and you’re wrong… the run is over. It isn’t something like Peglin where you might lose a ton of health, you just straight up lose if you take the wrong challenge.

theres a reason it feels this way compare challenges in s&d to elites in spire in s&d the individual fights are purposefully designed to present a balanced opponent in spire elites are purposefully designed and balanced yadda yadda for challenges, the factor it uses for balancing is random picking of rather arbitrary item and enemy values bc the enemies and items are qualitatively valuable and struggle to fit quantitative measures, and they are adding an unpredictable and untested element to a purposefully and carefully balanced challenge anyway sorry for the ramble

@@Gabriel_Blair Yeah S&D is different from other rougelikes where instead of snowballing you are supposed to stay consistently strong/balanced. In games like Wildfrost/STS/any other rougelike you HAVE to take risks to be stronger later. If you never fight an elite or optional fight you will lose. In S&D there are probably only a few seeds where you ever need/want a challenge assuming you play well.

you know what I've just noticed? heavy on enemies allocates to most hp after previous enemy attacks are calculated, otherwise fights like 5 gnolls would all dogpile onto whoever has the most hp at the time

or 11 damage death rampage :) barbarian or whatever his name is (honestly I kinda forgot) rolls death, valkyrie rolls death defy… everything with less than 11 health just dies. That’s something I did once. 10 damage death without items is okay, but not worth taking valkyrie for imo

i think its worth noting that no matter how much damage someone is taking they do not die with death defy, i think its good in some scenarios, but without knowing what bosses or fights are on the horizon, you cant know if itll be better than shields

I had a very good run with doctor and golden cup with weaver, I actually got 200 mana, it was with a single rat and just grinded for 200 mana. Yes I had auto flee off, no it was not fun
