Back in 2008, my dad bought me a Prada phone, made by LG. Released in 2007, it was the first phone with a capacitive touch screen, beating the iPhone to the market by a few months. I do recommend you checking it out if ever possible, Mr. Dank!

I had a touch screen phone in 2006 too, but it was way different. Siemens T830 with Windows. A grey lump of plastic looking like a swollen calculator. But it had some cool features: - hot swap SD card support (most other only had MMC, often awkwardly under the battery). - I remember realplayer and winamp running on it, as well as some early 3D mobile games. Installing apps was awkward. It was done via running the installer from a desktop PC. - It had WiFi too, but there wasn't much use of it, because Internet Explorer could not display most websites well enough on the small display. - And GPS, but you needed to buy the navigation app separately, which came on a write-protected SD card. Similar to a gameboy cartridge. The pre iPhone/Android/WP8 era was weird.

Fun little story - I worked for Vodafone during the Razr era. When the bright pink version came out, one of the trade magazines that was sent to our store had a "how to make a pink Razr" article, which basically had a cut out template and where to buy pink spray paint from. The phone really was the joke of the industry by that point, having been on the market for many years.

I just watched a video from ColdFusion about how old phones (and presumably cell towers) are being used in parts of rural Africa. I have a D&G V3i c: as well as a couple more V3s. That battery problem; when you plug them in to charge, they instantly try and boot, and the battery will reach an age where it wont charge fast enough in the first few seconds that the instant boot will kill it again every time, and you will never be able to get it to turn on, even plugged in. You just need to charge the battery a bit with an external charger first if you get stuck in that loop :)

Honestly I think there is a market for Motorola to bring back the classic Razr design as a budget flip phone for those who don't want/need a smart phone. Obviously it would have updated internals with 4g/5g support and USB type-c for charging. They don't even have to discontinue the foldable Razr smartphone. I think both of them could coexist together. Just call the budget flip phone Razr Classic.

It's crazy to realize just how old these are. I remember my parents having these when I was 6 years old. By the time I finally got my first phone when I was 11, the smartphone age was just starting, so the other kids at school had a variety of different phones. Back then I thought it was so cool being one of the only kids with a smartphone. And back then smartphones were actually interesting and weren't all the same slabs we see today. I had a evo shift which had a physical keyboard. That is the one thing cool about old phones, they were honestly quite unique.

I had so many of these when I was a kid. I actually had a nicer phone available to me, a touchscreen Samsung nugget that flipped open to reveal a full keyboard. However, I couldn't stand texting and hardly did it anyway, so I traded it out for my mom's old Razr. I got so many miles out of these, truly one of the best phones ever, and it felt SO GOOD in your pocket. Over the years, I had a V3m, then later a V3i, and my last was a V3xx, though this was short lived as texting became more important to me. The Razr V3 is truly the finest example of what a basic cell phone could be.

Every time I see one of these I look back with such fond memories. I saved up for ages for one of these and went halves with my parents. It was my first ever tech purchase and I loved it so much. Thanks for the vid. I had a razor shortly after they first came out and my favorite thing about it was the 1 and 1/2 inch square microfiber pad on a lanyard that came with it to clean the screen and keys, it was the perfect size for a phone and no matter how hard ive looked for another over the years i havent found one like it.
