I googled Saran / Nylon and stumbled upon this video. Wow, I didn't expect to hear that Saran is coarse! It's the softest one to me - but - when it's clean. The purpose of the oily substance on Saran is to ease rooting process, and that substance has to be washed off after the doll head or wig is finished. Only after that you can compare it to other fibers. Otherwise it stays dull, greasy, and collects a ton of dust. I totally agree that nylon is more shiny. It has that silky sheen, bright, but not overly bright. The main advantage of Saran though is that it's very easy to untangle. It's pretty unique among other doll fibers in this regard. I came from BJD world, where we have these 70 cm tall dolls, and some of these require super long wigs. I wouldn't trade Saran for anything else, because it's a pain to untangle 60 cm long fibers))

omg i thought i was crazy because my saran barbie doll feels like fine silk! I also love how weighted the hair is. I think it works best for a small doll head like Barbie. I had a few Nylon dolls like OMG LOL and they were super soft too! But something about the moistness of Saran just makes it so fun to play with. Im not a customizer so I don't care about curling hair and stuff.

sarans hair are soo thin, as if like its thinner than human hair, though they are heat resistant i have to be extra careful while ironing their hair bc unlike my polypropene hair its like more stronger idk how to say, its bc sarans hair are so much thinner so it burned more easily unless ur aware with your heat temparature, overall they're more fun to play with bc its soft

Thanks for this! It was especially helpful to see the two materials together side by side. I believe they are both great, just depend on the look someone’s going for!

Thank you for a wonderful presentation of the differences of nylon vs. saran hair. Textiles scientist here. I've seen so many KZbinrs refer to "Kenakalon" as a different fiber from Nylon. "Kenakalon" is nylon but it has different characteristics as standard nylon as it has modified physical properties but the same chemical molecule repeating units. I'm subscribed to your channel. Can you make a presentation like this video of standard nylon vs. "Kenakalon" nylon hair?

We don't work with Kanekelon because it emits harmful toxic fumes when heated. Plus most of our customers prefer nylon or saran. It's an interesting idea though to make a video to share studies as source materials and to make the public more aware.

@@DollPlanetHair Thank you for your response. It makes sense as it is harmful when heated.

I heard that Bratz repro used Nylon?

They use nylon but it doesn't compare to saran. Saran is the best.
