So, the reason his zoom in post looks so wonky is because he did the speed ramp before he made the position adjustments. If you want the final product to look a little smoother, do the position adjustments with the ease in/outs first and then add the speed ramp after! Hope this helps.

just a tip from my side, if you first add the digital dolly zoom effect the effect will be more solid as the dolly movement is nearly perfectly smooth; you could then nest the sequence and add the speed ramp afterwards this will safe lots of time as you do not have to edit the keyframes and is easier to do Anyways i really like the effect and the idea keep going

I think that for the next time you want to teach us stuff on premier you should zoom on the things you've doing, not with everything but watching just the full premier view it's kind of boring after a while in my opinion. Nice technique 👍 well explained and I hope to see more people trying the Dolly zooming as a boomerang! I think Peter Mckinnon did it with drones but yours is more accessible for everyone.
@cbenfey6 жыл бұрын
Kubmats yeah I agree with you regarding the Premiere section. Hard to make that part exciting! I definitely drew tons of inspiration from the Drone Boomerang, and probably wouldn’t have ever gotten to this one if I hadn’t done a few of those first! But yeah, it was all about accessibility with this one, you can pretty much do it with any stills camera if you don’t have nice video equipment. So I’m excited to see what kinds of new ideas people come up with and how this one evolves as people go out and start making their own! Thanks for the feedback!

Tomasz Fontana yeah I did that at first, but I found that it was better to smooth out what was left after it was sped up. One thing I thought of today was possibly doing the dolly zoom on the clip before speed ramping and see how that looks.

I still do not undersand how this is actually possible because what we are doing is just scaling the image. It doesn't really do the zoom effect. So I guess this is more of an optical illusion. Am I right or wrong?

Aside from the loss in quality a digital zoom has the same effect as an optical one...so as long as you're contrasting it with physical movement toward or away from the subject it'll have more or less the same result!
