1) This shit actually happened. Project head, John C Lilly. Dolphin-jerker, Margaret Howe (Lovatt). Dolphin's name: Peter. Documentary titled "The Girl Who Talked to Dolphins" is on BBC. 2) After funding dried up, Lilly started painful, abusive experiments (probes in the brain, gave them LSD, used jackhammers nearby to fuck with their sonar) on the dolphins. 3) Dolphins were moved too-small tanks, no sunlight, swimming in their own shit. Peter missed Margaret, became increasingly depressed and eventually inhaled infested water, drowning himself. 4) Lilly was a Ketamine addict, put himself in deprivation tanks, and believed he was being contacted by aliens. This was all inspiration for the Sega Genesis game "ECCO the Dolphin". No, seriously. Yes, a (completely untrained) woman did masturbate a juvenile dolphin during the experiment. Yes, he became unhealthily fixated on her. Yes, he was tortured, removed from her, stuck underground in shit-infested tank, and inhaled shit-water and killed himself, all while the project head was getting high off his ass and believing aliens calling themselves the Earth Coincidence Control Office sent him messages and images of castration as jokes. Lilly eventually realized what a horrific shithead he was, and spent the rest of his life making life better for dolphins, but only after mutilating, torturing, and killing several whilst high.

Kate is gorgeous irl. She's so talented that I never really thought about her looks, but then in early 2020, just before Covid hit nyc, I was at an an open house for a condo & to my delight Kate & her partner were there, shopping for apartments, too. I said nothing, but I took frantic mental notes: Kate is tiny (shorter than I expected) & very, very slim, and her skin is ridiculously perfect. Before Covid I used to see famous people out on the street frequently; Kate is the prettiest person I have ever seen in person, bar none.

Rooster Teeth anyone? I think this is based on a true story of one time when scientists tried to teach dolphins to speak and they made a dolphin and a woman live together. The dolphin kept having sexual urges and so they would take him out on conjugal visits. However they believed that this might interfere with their test results so instead they had the woman give the dolphin hand jobs. Then they dropped LSD together. It got weird. I believe it's true.

This is actually based on a true story, that is a lot weirder. The person who made the Flipper show gave this scientist acid and he figured we could teach dolphins how to talk. As were the government thought this would be a good idea for getting messages around this guy wanted to do this so we could get ready to talk to aliens if we came into contact with them. They used the 3 dolphins that played flipper on the show 2 females and one male. The 2 females stayed in a lab but the male they moved into a house that they fixed up to retain water knee high to live with a female research assistant for months. It started out fine but he was hitting that age where he would get urges and start rubbing up on her. So at first they would take him back to the lab and let him go at it with the 2 lady dolphins. But this was taking a lot of time, money, resources, and adding stress to the male dolphin. So she decide to just give him hand jobs at the house to easy this process and it "worked". Eventually the projected was shut down and the dolphins set back to a tank. Sadly tho the male dolphin had became attached to his "room mate" romantically and became depressed and died from a "broken heart" after being apart from her. She on the other hand (no pun intended) married the photographer from the research projected and wrote a book about it. There's also a film made about it The Girl Who Talked to Dolphins

He didn't die of a broken heart but because he was moved into a much smaller tank without natural sunlight.

What's funny is that this isn't very different from what really happened in John C. Lilly and Margaret Howe Lovatt's 1960s dolphin research (if anything, the true story is even weirder than this skit). Loved the realistic recreation of '60s home movie camera documentary footage, with the glaring exception of the anachronistic A/V mixer at 1:56. Kate looks equally cute with that short black pixie cut! 😘🐬

The manual release not only helped Jarold concentrate, it also helped reduce drag making him a more efficient swimmer. Fun Fact: In Teutonic the name Jarold means strong with a Spear.
