Yeah this is BS, the NBA wasn't shutting down, and if you really look into it this was never really a race issue. The owners finally found their catalyst to get rid of Sterling who they have disliked since the 80's when they told him not to move the Clippers to LA and he did it anyway. For over 30 years they felt he was making their business look bad with off court issues. It's like having a nice house on a good block with a bunch of other nice houses, but then there's that one house that doesn't keep their grass cut. Makes everyone else look bad, "look he fucked up on tape, this is how we move him out." That's a fact, it's just not as fun to talk about.

Through my work affiliation I was (accidentally) privy to conversations that were going on at this time. And YES, the nba did almost shut down. There were literally dozens of players that had already agreed to not play if this issue wasn't immediately addressed. They had targeted games and specific times for walking out. This was a much bigger problem then most people realize. It was much bigger than the Clippers, it was a problem for nba as a whole and also had further nationwide ramifications. Players had already contacted players from different sports, politicians, business leaders, community and religious leaders.....It was literally days from completing blowing up.....

To be fair, it took an illegal act to get that smoking gun tape to surface. See, in CA it's against the law to record audio of somebody w/o their permission. And there's no way Sterling would have said any of that if he knew he was going to be recorded. And whether he likes it or not, he got a 15,900% return rate over his 33yr tenure (Bought Clippers for 12mil, sells it for 2 bil)

That SOB should have never been allowed to own a team!!!! This is on owners

Shaun King I know you’re trying to be sarcastic but for what reason? You really don’t get “punished” in the private business world because of what your personal views are including racism. Especially when the team was always going go be worth billions, racism or not at play. Look at Chic-Fil-a and their homophobia, record setting chicken sandwich sales

Donald Sterling won big time! How much was The Clippers organization worth before this supposed controversy.
@sebastiansilva73 жыл бұрын
He originally bought the clippers in 1981 for just over $13 million Edit: And sold it for $2 billion

Everyone knew what Sterling was. David Stern was scared to death of him; if Stern had still been in charge when this happened the league might have shut down. He would've issued a carefully-worded statement to distance himself from Sterling's racist remarks while taking care not to anger Sterling too much. Then the players would've refused to play and Stern would've gotten furious and gone all-in on punishing them.

Ballmer is great for the NBA , but awkward and obnoxious
@liampowers85705 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he’s obnoxious at all, just a really passionate guy, if anything I think he’s one of the best team-first owners in the league.

I think boycotting that situation would have been a little too overboard... just my opinion, of course, but people need to calm down sometimes

There is no way the NBA would have waited to do something about this, even if the Clippers players boycott the GS game Sterling is being punished.
