I find myself agreeing overall with Vin here, there are many kinds and many levels of 'real' or true love. This song represents the more fun and lighthearted side of Jim (in the lyrics) and the band follows suit. As far as I can tell, It's both about that 'love struck' moment, or love at first sight, but Sori isn't necessarily wrong about infatuation either. But I think it's also about life on the road as a band/rock star in the 60's, and a bit of a peek into the mindset of Jim as well. Being on the road, pullin' into new towns and cities every night, meeting new girls all the time, and the seemingly constant cycle of "hello, I love you" he experiences as he and his band mates tour the US and abroad. Groupies are still very much a thing, but back in those days, bands like The Doors were making it a thing in the moment, and I feel this song is a bit of a nod to that. Overall, as always, great breakdown and discussion. Consider doing more Doors please! :0)

My brother was with a friend one day, they went to meet his friend's girlfriend at a park. The girlfriend had a friend with her, and the four of them spoke for a few minutes. When my brother was walking away with his friend, he turned to him and said, " That girl that's with your girlfriend? I'm gonna marry her." They've been married about 35 years now, and my brother still looks at her with puppy dog eyes...

In regards to the book on Love and Respect, it's been around for years and is an excellent book. But there's no magic, it starts with effort. If you don't apply what you learn, the knowledge won't become wisdom. As for the song, Jimmy and the boys were definitely unique and brought something new to rock and roll.

The Doors have many great songs with atmospheric musical arrangements. "Hello, I love you" is a simpler radio pop song and not really an indicator of what The Doors are capable of lyrically or musically. It is a sip of lemonade at the beach... ...Where other Doors songs are epic poetic cave drawings and tapestries, of great generational social issues, worldviews, philosophies, from the '60s riots, Vietnam, Nixon, America, religion, politics, sex, money, social injustice, human rights, environmentalism, nightlife, roadtrips, adventures, political commentary, family, friends, love, death, campfires, feasts, celebrations, American Indian ceremonies, trances, multi-level analogies, the beauty and ugliness of LA, and the human condition weaved with musical allegorical imagery. If this song is an 8.3 or a 9, then you better change your scale to 1 to 20, for other Doors songs you have yet to experience...lucky you ! Jim Morrison's electrical poem lyrics, and Adonis rock god stage presence, charisma, and uncompromisable attitude and authentic undiluted, allegience to his artistic expression, vocals, humor, and antics...about all things light and dark, good and evil about Los Angeles and the world. Robby Krieger's flamenco and blues Gibson SG guitar writing creations...Ray Manzerek's carnival organ lead and bass textures, and John Densmore on percussive sound effects... what a weird and wonderful, unique, untouchable band ! Please explore The Door's mystical musical rabbit hole. James Douglas Morrison was a film student and his father was a US Navy Admiral. Jim met Ray in film school, then they met on Venice beach one day, then formed The Doors. Jim Morrison named The Doors after: ..."The Doors of Perception is a book by Aldous Huxley. Published in 1954, it elaborates on his psychedelic experience under the influence of mescaline in May 1953..." Wiki ...Which is from this by William Blake: “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” Wiki ...which may be influenced by: "Plato's The Republic, the Allegory of the cave. What is the Allegory of the cave? The Allegory of the Cave is a narrative device used by the Greek philosopher Plato in The Republic, one of his most well known works. It is an extended allegory where humans are depicted as being imprisoned by their bodies and what they perceive by sight only." Wiki "The Allegory of the Cave is a hypothetical scenario, described by Plato, in the form of an enlightening conversation between Socrates and his brother, Glaucon. The conversation basically deals with the ignorance of humanity trapped in the conventional ethics formed by society." Buzzle So... Open The Doors...and see what's on the other side. You'll find a time transcending supply of "Lazy diamond studded flunkies"...

I really wonder WHY they never request a good song from this band; They have so much better songs than this and someone requests THIS? I remember when i was 8 years old, i found a tape of "the doors greatest songs" something like that, lying in a drawer left there from my (much) older brother. I started playing it and the first song was this one... in the middle of the song i took out the tape and really hated them. The tape left there forgotten for another 3 years and when i was about 11 i had forgotten all about it, found it again and THANKFULLY i placed it in the tape player on the opposite side (side b) and thats it.. i was hooked. Such a pitty (you YEAH you who requested this song... i WILL find you and i WILL.... make you listen to their better songs)

A lot of haters on this particular song. I always liked "Hello, I Love You", even though it is, musically, a ripoff of "All Day and All of the Night" by The Kinks. Jim's lyrics are about a stunningly beautiful black chick that he saw one day (the "dusky jewel").

There are tons of things that are instant turn offs for me that I think wouldn't be for most people.
