Um.. they weren't tripping over themselves in love. Jim had both a wife and a girlfriend, and the latter is who was with him when he allegedly died. FWIW, there are no bad Doors songs, check out Spanish Caravan, it will absolutely blow your mind. Truly, you need to watch the Live at the Hollywood Bowl video, and watch Ray Manzarek make love to his keyboard. Just as an FYI, December 8th is not only Jim Morrison's birthday, but it's also the anniversary of both John Lennon and Dimebag Darryl being shot.

It's due in high part to the fact that they had no bassist (until their last album). That lack of a bottom to their music gave them that eerie, unmoored feeling. Hard to pin down but essential to their sound.

Fun fact! My father in law went to high school with Jim Morrison here in Alexandria Virginia. He used to give Jim, and a couple other fellows a ride to and from school for a nickel. My father in law said that Jim was very quiet and mysterious, but polite. How cool is that connection!
@kelvinkloud4 жыл бұрын
did your father realize 5 years later, that the famous rock star was him? .... morrison's ascent story is about as fascinating as it gets, esp considering his background & lack of musical experience. amazingly, he conceived a lot of the ideas & then thru will, talent & of course band mate help constructed them into some of the strongest songs of the era... I'm curious, what else did he say about morrison when they did actually talk?... if you are interested, there is a good book written about 7 years ago or so about his days in alexandria. tell your father and law to check it out, he probably knows people used as sources in the book. furthermore, he may want to contact the author to add newer material.
@Ave43able4 жыл бұрын
@@kelvinkloud Well, my father in law (John) passed away several years ago, but I did talk to my mother in law to see what she remembers, which isn't a whole lot. She said that John and his high school friends talked about him over the years. He came to realize who Jim was, once he became famous, he said he looked and acted VERY different from high school days. But he thought it was cool that he was so successful. MIL did mention that there was a book written about those days, and the author reached out to John and his friends for an interview. Who knows if their story made the cut or not. Maybe this is the same book you are referring to? What is the title and authors name? Oh, and as a bonus, MIL said Mama Cass was also going to high school there at the time, AND lived in the same apartment complex as John's family. Go Alexandria Virginia! Ha!

And I would get messages from younger women saying, ' hey cutie' and questions about my relationship status. He was gone longer than I have been alive, and sadly these newer generations have no clue of him or his music. But I would definitely let them know who he was and point them into the direction of his music. Never heard a complaint. He was such a timeless musician his lyrics, the Doors style of music was an awesome collective mesh of musical styles. The like that has only been achieved by 2 bands in all of recording history, The Beatles, and The Doors, and no one has ever done it since. RIP Pam & Jim Gone but not forgotten.

Jamel, please react to my man, Isaac Hayes, doing "Walk On By". Please do the long version off the "Hot Buttered Soul" album. This man is so under appreciated as a musician. If you like it, "Look of Love" is a great second song.

Jim Morrison had such an unusual voice for that era.... kid of classic crooner timbre to it. He could have sung any kind of thing, probably. Amazing to think how young he was when he died, and how much material he had written and recorded. I suppose in those years, albums were released more frequently, perhaps more than one a year, in some cases.
