Vietnam war was so unpopular. As a kid during that time, the death count was on the front page every day. Our music was full of anti war songs.✌️

The Doors were such a great band. Excellent musicians and Jim Morrison has to be the greatest front man. So theatrical!!

Jim Morrison’s dad was serving as a Vice Admiral in the US Navy. Morrison took any drug he was offered.

yes, the youngest admiral in the times of the Vietnam war. And Jim claimed his family was dead, killed in an accident.

¿What if he took every drug they offered him? He already paid the price for it with his own life at the age of 27... But we have to keep in mind that Jim was a genius, what he did in such a short time was most of us couldn't do it in 100 lifetimes.

Years after Jim was dead I learned that his dad, Admiral George Morrison was a commander in the Gulf of Tonkin incident that was used as cover for a big escalation of the US in Vietnam. Jim and his dad didn’t have much of a relationship, and had said interviews that the parents were dead. There’s a great interview with Admiral Morrison somewhere on KZbin- he thinks perhaps Jim was trying to protect them…interesting military discipline line-ups and severe ‘dressing down’ in the household - but also the admiral played piano, led cocktail drenched sing alongs with military staff in the Morrison household. The admiral sent a letter to Jim advising him to give up any hope of a musical career- because he had no talent. And this was AFTER the first album was out, and a huge hit (which is how he found out about it) Still…the admiral seemed to really love his son in his limited way. He wrote a letter to a judge in an controversial indecency trial in Miami to plead for leniency, no jail time.

His fathers ship actually wasn’t in the Tonkin, it was in Japan. He wasn’t an admiral yet either. He was flag shipping and commanding a ship which was part of the fleet that was in part in the Tonkin. But his particular ship that day in august was actually in Japan. Then later rejoined weeks later. His father wasn’t high enough on the chain either to relay info directly to pentagon at this point. Go back to primary sources and you will see this is fact. Lazy reporting put out that his fathers ship was in the Tonkin during those 2 days. But primary research finds that false.

Pope, I don't know if you noticed they did not have a bassist. If that was live at the Hollywood Bowl, he asked if anyone had a cigarette, my sister handed him a doobie.

He stretches the word And and brings the pitch up in a strange and cryptic way, I had to rewind it often. Plus that was not on the studio album.

Every soul can use some poetry. Morrison used poetry fused with prose, Like Kerouac

Should have reacted to the video/studio version of this but it's all good. Way more visceral to see real war footage with this song in the background.
