This song is an exquisite gem which Jim penned a long ago. He had a special appreciation of nature and the uniqueness of the water properties found in hidden places. Inspiration for songs often followed a swim in clean lakes and rivers. Jim knew the value of communing with nature, and was a powerful swimmer and experienced sailor. Play on Celtic mystic man.

This is one of my favourite songs from Waiting for the Sun....and you have more than done it justice- the video is really well put together......it was fate that took JM away from us, as I think that if he were still alive today, he would pretty much be an isolationist....I think his last words to the world would have been good night. Thanks, love this song too. It was really fate, and i really can't imagine how he would have been if he'd been alive today. In some ways I am glad that he died while still leaving a legacy that undoubtedly shows that he was indeed "true to his own spirit".

Someone asked what the song is all about. Morrison wrote cryptically and many of his poems/song lyrics are subject to interpretation. Listen to the words or get a copy of them and see how it hits you. From that point, you're on your own. I spent years reading his material and knowing his history helps, but even you don't know Jack Shit about him, you'll still be able to find some meaning in all his poems.

Could someone please explain to me what the song actually means....cause my definition is some how different from what I read below.....I was never a fan of The Doors.....yes, I know who JM was....lead singer for the group....but a friend of mine asked me to listen to the song and just need some clarification.

+Ellen Birkland The song was written primarily by Krieger to suggest that Morrison was going to drown he was drinking so much. Morrison read Krieger's starting lyrics to the song and added his own touches, such as "Please believe me, if you don't need me, I'm going but I need a little time.......I promised I would drown myself in mystic-heated wine." I think Morrison had a unconscious intimation that death was just another form of consciousness. I explain it in better detail in my book "Some Are Born to Endless Night: Jim Morrison, Visions of Apocalypse and Transcendence."
