The Dornier Family / War Thunder

In the early 1930s a new generation of aircraft was steadily changing the world of commercial aviation in Europe. There were more and more aircraft that were both light and fast, and boasted efficient airframes and retractable landing gear. Those planes were not only faster than their contemporary military counterparts… but also faster than some fighters!
That was a weird turn of events for sure - but, most importantly, it prompted the military to change their views on bombers. Why would you build just aircraft that are heavy and slow when you could also make bombers that are light and fast? Thanks to their speed, they would never have to face their opponents directly… and it seemed that it wasn’t even that difficult to make aircraft like that.

@ Apollo Tsakiris Same mate. Used the Do 217 E-2 and E-4 extensively to grind German planes whiel doing 4.7 Ground RB matches. Those 1000 kg (2.204,62 lb) bombs work wonders against enemy armor.

I mean, i have out turned other bombers, attackers and even some heavy fighters in the do217 e-1 (without bombs), so it can kind of stand their ground. And even when it can't, its just such a nice aircraft to fly.

The Dornier Do 17 was sometimes referred to as the Fliegender Bleistift ("flying pencil"), it was popular among its crews due to its handling, especially at low altitude, which made the Do 17 harder to hit than other German bombers.

I'm not a gamer but it was interesting to know about the Dorniers. My perception was that after the original Do17 the JU88s seemed to be the " main plane." Even reading old RAF pilots and history authors' memoirs and accounts, Do217 variations are rarely mentioned - they always seemed to be intercepting 88s or 110s.

Its important to note that misidentification happened quite a lot, so you should not always trust a memoir with these things. That being said, its absolutely the case that the Luftwaffe relied more on Ju88s (around 2700 nightfighter variants built) and Bf110 (around 2800 nightfighter variants built) then Do217s (around 500 nightfighter variants built) when it comes to the nightfighter role

I'm in love with Dornier as I am with Focke Wulf,Heinkel, Junkers, Arado , BV , Meser and V- 1 , V- 2 ......I need to get another house to place my Luftwaffe and B-17 F 1:48 ....oh even my fw 190 V -18 in 1:72....my Vasa 1:144 rebuilt in a Spanish Galleon ( very well done cause i do paint, I do study and I do love those XVI and XVII century ships)...

I use the Do-217 K-1 mainly for mixed battles. I got a 5 kill on a point with a couple 1000 kg bombs with it. Also, I find the K-1 double machine gun sticking out the front to be a more reliable forward gunner armament then the 20 mm cannon. But that may be just me.

Dorniers were the only aircraft that bombed the island I live on during WW2. They blew up a bunch of tomato trucks that were mistaken for tanks. Crazier still, the local airline uses modern Dornier aircraft now.

I like using my N-1 in Sim, and am currently grinding through in E-2. Although I think my E-2 is cursed. I've only gotten back from target once and even then I had one engine out. And considering how often you don't get intercepted in sim?

P-61 is a better pick by far lol. Amazing br, amazing turret, radar, 61mm effective thickness glass in the front of the cockpit making it really good in head on's, 4x 20mm's and a turret with 4x 50 cals! What more could you want!? (Also got a sick paint job!)

I have a question, where is the booster on the Mirage III C ? When I take the loadout with 2 magic and the matra (the one indicated on the devblog) there is no booster, same with aim 9 b and matra. Unless it is else where...

I got an answer The booster is only equipped in load outs without guns. Try looking for 1 x Matra 530 2 x Matra 550 Magics (No guns)

Ok, so Do 335 is a Dornier. It is however, not part of this family. Messerschmitt made both Bf-109 and Bf-110, but they’re not the same family. Just like Hawker made the Hurricane and the Hunter, but they’re not the same family.

I know they probably won't check this but quite a few British Bombers did have ventral gunner positions including the Avro Lancaster B some an actual turret others a cut out either a Vickers 12.7mm or .303, There're posts on the forums asking for these turrets still hell the models ironically have these positions in game. Another thing still no Dornier Seaplanes like the Do.26, why none of these ntm the Do.217 with the Henschel guided bomb one did after all sink the Italian Battleship Rm Roma.
