@@wanderlustwarrior ‘Bogan’ is very specific to Melbourne and unflattering. In Sydney they are called ‘Westies’ and in Brisbane they are called ‘Bevans’. It’s a bit like calling an American a ‘redneck’. We used to call a thick Aussie accent ‘Strine’, which is just a corruption of the word ‘Australian’. Back in those days we used things like rhyming slang - a Cockney thing from the colonial era - which has all but been replaced by pre-packaged Americanisms. Nobody under 40 has even heard of it now.

It's very hard to drop a Boston accent when you've had it for nearly 30 years of your life and it's all that you knew. And my Boston accent is a bastardization of it since I never grew up in Boston proper. If you've ever watched The Fighter, that's where I grew up and that's my accent.
