One of the blurbs on the news paper on day 2 of the update partially confirms this. Covered partially under the magnifying glass says "he's nothing like the man I once new" and the photos of him performing a stakeout before seemingly assaulting the photographer. I wouldn't be suprised if he has atleast some newfound appreciation for at least being on the front lines in some sense. Or maybe he's getting stressed and desperate out cause the company is starting to dip from the "friendly competition".

Other than some vscript funsies, the game is in a much. much worse state right now than pre gunmettle. Sure, it's better than when the bots were rampant. But that bar is so low it might as well be buried 6 feet deep.

for context, valve had some issues with tf2c in the past. the tf2c team tried to talk it out, but in typical valve fassion, valve didn't respond to anything and also took no action, so tf2c went down for a little while and went right back up. i might have some facts wrong, if anyone wants to correct me. i don't have the best memory.

I figure they either just don't have the time/resources to devote to a taking down fan projects, perhaps no longer seeing it as a threat to their IP, or their plans to acquire the mod/partner with the mod team changed significantly after their c&d email. IIRC, they expressed a wanting to implement the TF2C mod or ideas from it as a new gamemode in live TF2, but considering the scope of what is now current TF2C, I feel it is likely that the mod is different enough from Valves idea of a "Classic" gamemode, that they no longer see a reason to attempt assimilating the mod or having anything to do with it.
