Nsfas has allowed for improvised students (most of them being black) to have the opportunity to go to University. The Eff's student command is an intellectual organization (whether you agree with their politics or not, because a lot of people like to believe that they're stupid when that's not the case). Their politics are left leaning and their intellectual thought leans to Marxism and the radical left. These sort of ideologies are appealing to poor black students and the fact that their campaigning and presence on campus is robust is the reason why they keep winning. The other alternative is sasco and their quite useless imo. Also key point. Most students such as myself and especially white and Asian people are apolitical when it comes University politics. That's because whoever is in charge has no impact on our daily lives as students.
