🛑TRIGGER WARNING: VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED! This episode contains themes of ED’s, Self-Harm, Self-Termination, Addiction, and Sexual Content. Viewer discretion is advised!! Questions to consider: When it comes to Perez Hilton and the evolution of his content, do you find his apologies and remorse sincere? Do you believe Perez Hilton’s content has moved in a more ‘positive’ direction? In your opinion, has he upheld the standards and boundaries he proclaimed when he decided to pivot? As always, I hope you find the Perez Hilton Story insightful and informative. BE ❤

I dont buy these "apologies" bec. they remind me of my time at the kindergarden. We are adults now, "sweeping things under the rug" and moving on with our merry lives like nothing happened is just not good enough. Perez Hilton made a lot of money and built his whole platform over being an online bully. The harm he caused cannot be undone and neither can his climb to fame, money and success. Now, it appears to me, that he wants to "pivot" in order to stay relevant. My opinion is that he cares about his image/legacy more than he cares about the people, he harmed directly and indirectly.

I commend him for being blunt and honest about his motives…saying he did things simply for money and didn’t care about the celebs…saying he was purposely provocative and divisive because it brought him more views and clicks and fame. That’s not something I’ve really EVER seen a public person do that’s been cancelled.

That's what I think too. 🤔 I wonder if he's actually being honest and forthcoming with mental health professionals, it's only possible though if you're both of those things with yourself first though! I hope that he is really being active in working towards growth and healing now that he's a parent. Hurt people hurt people, and if that means a new parent hasn't done the work, then they're probably just going to magnify and multiply that same trauma or worse in their own children. My sister complained our whole lives about the trauma she's survived from our two parents, but now she's 10x's worse than either parent ever thought of being. 😢

@gypsywoman9140

I agree the way the media treated young women at the time was terrible (the obsession with minors turning 18, their v-card status, and so much more) but the shaming of the leaving the car pics was sort of a grey zone. The girls knew what they were doing wearing short dresses with no panties getting out of the vehicle; they knew they'd be flashing papz and that they'd make headlines. They wanted the attention or their publicists put them up to it, idk, but they knew. There were a few notorious lady flashers at the time. I can't remember who started that trend of blurred muff shots. Regardless, that was all a circular thing. I would expect if I flashed my muffin accidentally-on-purpose that people would talk just as we would if a man flashed his dong
@FrankieLeeH
@FrankieLeeH 8 ай бұрын
I understand what you’re saying, but society should never have reached a point where it tolerated the encouragement of vulnerable, impressionable young women to flash their private parts for media attention. They were horrendously exploited, all of them have since admitted to very serious psychological traumas (Paris Hilton was SAed at boarding school, for example), and we allowed them to be commodified, objectified and then shamed for the sake of entertainment industry ‘gossip’ by engaging with it.

Shame on Perez Hilton for outing gay celebrities. Even if a celebrity's career won't suffer after they come out, you must consider their families and communities, especially if they're homophobic. very true. many many years ago there was a wonderful country singer who was very well known and popular at his prime and raking in big money when someone thought it would be fun to say this man was gay. he was not gay and it ruined his life. he became a heavy drinking and was basically ran out of nashville. .. he lost pretty much everything and certainly the thing he loved most .. singing and recording. all because of horrid lie that started small and grew over almost over night. he ended up dead at a fairly young age of something incurable no where the money he once had .. no where the fame he once had but the one thing he did have was his long term wife who never gave up on him and never believed the rumors and stayed by his side until he took his last breath. all it takes is a lie.. it doesnt even have to be a truth. and the truth is even if it was true it was his life to be lived by him and no one else other that the people he including in his inner circle. if he had been gay no one had the right to drive him out of town and ruin his life over it. i cry when i think about it.

Conservative states don't care if you're gay, just stay tf away from kids! Very simple! The contestant that he was so insulted by, and proudly admitted he would assault her because she has a different opinion, was from California! Why don't you run a quick Google search for gay bars in various conservative states, then apologize for being an uniformed bigot?

I have to add, the culture Perez cultivated was SO dangerous for regular young women. Growing up in this time, I NEVER felt good enough in my body. These young, beautiful celebrities were being called ugly and fat by perez. How could I, a regular young teen, even try to be as "ugly" as them? I felt hideous and worthless, as many young women my age did. My reaction to this, luckily, was to hide myself away. However, many young women were preyed on by older men my age who were the FIRST to call them beautiful. Perez created a culture of women who were easily preyed on. Then shamed victims when they were (Drew Barrymore). I wish he would even start to take accountability for the damage he's caused, but he can't ever undo it.

Many gay men, like Mario (Perez), bring a lot of their unresolved trauma from childhood and adolescence into adulthood. Victimizing and bullying anyone else they deem weak or any easy target, because the same abuse was inflicted on them in formative years. Myself, as a gay man, can acknowledge this toxic trait within our community. However, I’ll say, not ALL gay men grow up to become adult bullies and “mean girls”. I’ve always pushed against that “mean girl” persona that plagues our community. Let’s just be kind human being to one another

Trigger warning for this comment!!! ED! I was a teen when Perez was huge. To this day, I am dealing with reprocussions from how the media (especially perez) spoke about women. How he spoke about Drew, who was exploited by adults as a yound child, was not only disturbing but beyond damaging. As someone who grew up in this era, the paps and perez can never make up for the damage they did. I have to constantly remind myself, and I am underweight, that I am ok in my own skin. I can't get past him justifying outing people for their sexuality. That is such a personal and private thing. Why would it be okay publisize something so private and sensitive?? Especially back then! He is who he is, not who he says he is. That's why he continues to offend and hurt people in the same way and then come out and apologize. His sorrys have lost value. Honestly, Perez is washed up. After awhile, I just quit liking him altogether bc he went beyond just reporting gossip. It seemed like he reveled in their misfortunes and was happy to see them fail. Honestly, I didnt know he apologized but had I not seen your documentaries on him, I wouldnt have believed his apology. Given the facts, I do believe this was an instance of "hurt pp, hurt ppl". I had no idea abt his childhood and I can absolutely understand and see how Perez Hilton came to be and why. I do think he's sincere and it's a courgeous thing to be honest and say, "I did it bc it for 2 reasons. 1) it brought me (lots of) money but 2) and most importantly, I hated myself". And thats the bottom line; when a person hates who they are, they hate other ppl or dont know how to show love to others, esp if they feel no one has done that for him. You're doing an amazing job. What a time to be alive smh. Perez is an unfunny, messy, weird, delusional bully. His name/persona is synonymous with hatred/bully. This wasn’t a character, this was/is him.

It sucks, but our laws don't protect public figures against slander the same as everyone else. A lot of people see it like "they chose to be in the public eye" and therefore people can say whatever they want about them unless you can prove the statements untrue and there was malicious intent. Right now, the best thing we can do is to not support news outlets that do this.

I never understood why people followed him on his website. I thought it was awful at the time. He knew it was wrong but he did it for fame and money.

36:06 Perez calling will i am a thug and calling him a fa€€0+ and he’s a homosexual man who literally create hates speech and says aggressive things to strangers…this is wild. He’s not sorry, he knew what he was doing then and he loved every second of it.

Not super relevant, but the red table talk episode annoyed me because there should have been two separate episodes, one for Perez and one for Gabbie because they've both been awful on the internet. By having both in the same episode, Gabbie didn't receive the criticism she should have. I'm glad Perez is being called to the carpet, but they needed to call both of them out.

I agree. She was able to deflect and shift culpability because of his presence. Had she been interviewed alone, she would’ve had to answer for her behavior because the spotlight would’ve been on her. Missed opportunity

The fact that he was #1 news outlet and blogspot with million of views, what does that say about society of that time and what was normalized (esp during his rise and peak)? Because what he was doing it wasn’t like he was an outlier or a contrarian. I think he should rightfully be called out and held accountable but I also feel like he gets a lot of hate as if he was the only one doing that. When a lot of people participated, other news outlets and tabloids also contributed. I hope he continues to be a better person. 👍🏽

I knew about his negative tendencies towards women, but did he really just call Will I Am a "thug" and say he's "sub-human"? 😮 I now know all I need to know about Perez Hilton.

I love your takes and structure. Baby i cant even finish the video tho cause some of these are just so brutal. Like his language is so revolting. Knowing that some of these people have died only makes it burn that much more. He is a waste of healthy functioning organs. I cant believe the times we grew up in that this was so normalized.

It's true. Nobody considered their feelings, it was all for entertainment :/ I remember being young and seeing stuff online like a parody video of an NSYNC song making fun of Lance. I thought nothing of it at the time. The internet was so new and trashy magazines were thought of as harmless fun. I'm glad we can see the harm I'm it now
