The only inconsistently good seasons were 4 and 5, but 5 still had a good amount of absolutely great episodes despite also having the worst bunch in the entire series. The seasons after those while different from what we’re used to are just straight up great and I hate that it’s a trend to act like RnM became complete trash when it never rlly did.

The earlier episodic episodes were peak Rick and Morty. The alien simulation, purge, inception episodes to name a few. The characters had specific mannerisms, Inter personal dynamics, specific humor to the situation. The characters weren’t insufferable, the jokes weren’t over done meta analysis, the mannerisms genuinely made me laugh. RIP peak Rick and Morty, you will be missed.

Nah i agree with you... I know a lot of people are saying that they loved season 7 but to me it was meh to as bad as the sperm episode... I feel like the worst part was the way they tied up Rick prime in that they essentially made evil morty a mary sue and made all of Rick's trauma fucking pointless. So Rick's been tracking this guy for DECADES... he has murdered THOUSANDS of other Rick's in an attempt to get to Rick prime who, btw, only started having prominence in 2 episodes one season ago. And then evil morty just comes in and INSTANTLY... no struggle what-so-ever, gives rick the info to locate Rick prime, or at least the clone that takes him directly to rick prime's strong hold that then leads to Rick prime. If it was that easy, that simple that it was resolved in a 1 minute scene then why the fuck and how the fuck does rick have trauma that lasted YEARS with no resolution. The show tells one thing and then shows another. Then they just go and evil morty basically has to defeat Rick prime for rick... what the fuck. What happened to the build up and the pay off? Then the tonal whiplash... they will constantly go from talking about Rick's depression to then making a joke about it completely ripping any deep moment away as if they're scared to have a serious moment. Like he tells his entire backstory and has to call it his crybaby backstory absolutely ruining all investment on how serious it was ( you know which was also further desecrated when they went on to find the source of his trauma in 1 minute). There are also countless other problems such as erasing character development or thinking that just because they call out a troupe that they're using it makes it less bad but it still stands. It just isn't good anymore and it's sad to see. Like josh said, I used to be happy to see this show but now it's just sad, like watching a dying relative who is no longer themselves be forced to suffer on hooked up to a life support machine. Essay over.

Xiaolin Showdown (the original, not chronicles) did the whole episodic show with overarching elements right. It kept character development done in each episode without making the characters feel like completely different people in the next episode. There was a problem with episodes being shown somewhat randomly, fir example if you see part 2 before 1 of a 2-part episode, but that isn't a problem with writing.

Rick and Mortys problem that Gravity falls doesn’t have is the second Rick and Morty introduces a new plot point that ads depth to it they completely throw it away for years to trash it just like Evil Morty Plot and Rick Prime plot Its so unsatisfying and the writers even spoke about how they do it on purpose because they were tired of hearing about it from the views its basically like a big middle finger to the people (mostly everyone who watched it) that like the plot moving forward instead of making mutant sperm and insect space baby. They specifically did that thing with the talking cat at the end of one of the episodes and then joked about how it was to say “haha” to the people who would criticize the show for wanted more plot driven episodes. It was purposefully done to leave us wondering they talked about it with evil morty and how they wanted to leave us wondering and we still dont know literally anything about him. The writers got overzealous and picked on the audience for enjoying the show a little too much and not liking the dumb dragon or gogo bot type episodes. We dont want another Rick Vs. The president episode on a holiday we want something to progress and elevate the show, and the views that agree with how the writers take criticism in their show are legitimate Simps that want to think they are on the same level as the show. Anyway I love the show I watch it when it airs this is just my criticism and just what I think differs it from Gravity Falls. Rick and Morty is a constant struggle, back and fourth of it not knowing what it wants to be.

I gave up on the show after the abysmally horrible season 7 opener which is legit one of the most offensively bad episodes of any show I’ve watched. That being said, I think I still have a more “rose-colored glasses” perspective on seasons 4-6 than you, there are still some decent and good episodes in that bunch (even in episodes you considered “bad”). The snake time travel episode, the meta train episode, the “Asimov Cascade” episode, the last 2 or 3 episodes of season 5, the season opener of season 6, along with some of the good episodes you mentioned (although I still can’t get fully on board with the fortune cookie episode, that felt a little too dumb). In future rewatches, there will be a few episodes I will skip or want to skip, but there are more “non-skip” episodes than skippers for me.

I would say that the show relied so much upon weird surrealism that it had to burn out pretty early. When making a show like Emmerdale, where people go about their merry day, you can make 10000 episodes, but when you're making a show like Rick and Morty, you have to come up with completely crazy things all the time, to keep the viewers. How many of you could even come up with one of the episodes from S1? Same goes with shows like Ugly Americans and Adventure time. The former did the right thing, and stopped after two seasons. But some shows just keep squeezing.

The show isn't bad by any means, but it definitely lost its mainstream appeal. Imo the creators missed the chance to make Rick and Morty HUGE in 2017-2019 by not making Evil Morty the main focus on S4 and not giving fans any answers about it. Although Roiland and Harmon stated they didn't want the show to be plot-driven, that is clearly one reason for the show's rating decline. That said, I still like it. Yes, it doesn't feel fresh anymore and the voice acting is different compared to season one's but I still enjoy it

After witnessing the migraine simulator "High on Life", I knew Roiland had to be nothing but a detriment to the story's plot (the only interesting part of the show, if not for the story it'd just be a collection of dumb adventures where no one learns anything). Like it's incredible that the man _can't _*_shut up._* The "game" just makes you feel like the show would have been entirely interdimensional television if it were up to him. iTV isn't even remotely good either, so many parts are painfully low effort improv. _(just like the entirety of HoL's dialogue..)_

you and lots of people dont realize that rick and morty was never supposed to be a linear plot driven show, the writers have even admitted they dont care about it. People understandably got the idea that a scifi somewhat introspective comedy cartoon was supposed to be really deep and meaningful, when that was never the plan. The basic idea of rick and morty was to explore cool unique scifi ideas following the same characters, like bit after bit instead of story driven stuff. The fans taking characters like evil morty seriously and expecting more were the real reason characters like that got lame endings because they were never supposed to meaningful.

regarding the spaghetti episode morty’s saying that rick didn’t want to create a scientifical fix but instead found a way to ruin it for everyone as he does. hence “you couldn’t change their tastebuds….but made it distasteful. morty had thought that the suicide made the spaghetti but instead the complexity of life lead to such an amazing and perfect outcome showing the beauty of what life could be. what’s the point morty asks ? asking if everything they had been through was worth it. rick in this situation is an ordinary person who has no care towards weather it was worth it and only focosues on the outcome. hence “ you’re asking if this is a story about right or wrong. what do we do ? morty asks. and rick responds by basically saying how we as humans live is wrong, life itself is wrong. but ending our life is even worse. he’s saying that all of that pain and agony was for nothing. consumers will consume. lives will end. and nobody will bat an eye. he’s saying that behind all of the capatikistic shit going on is issues like suicide and mental health. but those issues don’t have a profit. and if people Could profit off of the mentally unwell that they would. and they do.
