This week we tackle the most common issue on the 60 Series Landcruiser. After 33 years of life, and like many before her, the old girl has developed a few rust holes peeping through the roof. We show you the best way to fix this roof rust which is a bit more complicated than just cutting and welding since the rust actually starts on the inside.

A few points, from your local utube knowitall. The gutter rust forms from condensation forming on the inside of the roof and then running to the lowest point, witch is the inner gutter seam. Leave a window cracked so the humid air can escape. Also, the moisture problem is often from water sitting in the rear quarters or doors, 60 pinchweld drains are small and often blocked completely by mud or paint. Before welding in your patches, give everything a spray in high zinc weld through primer. Since you've pulled the liner, spray all the way around the inside with non drying sealer, VitaCare is great, but leave the car in the sun before putting the interior back in as it might find places to drip through. thanks for the tips! the previous owner clearly went to the beach a lot so there’s a lot of rust to deal with but once we have it back in shape we’ll definitely be taking precautions like leaving the windows cracked while we’re in it and making sure the drains aren’t blocked. we are absolutely planning to seal the inside once we’ve painted it because I do not want to be doing this job again in a few years 😂

what thickness was the repair panels that u had made up?

We used 1.2mm as that's what the fabricator had spare of, but I believe 0.9mm is ideal. Either way it worked for us!

All PPE except ear plugs. Tinitus creeps up on you, best to always wear muffs or plugs.
