A short video looking at the steady decline of experienced "fun" in videogames and how this effect can be seen in Valorant. I hope to share some insight into why I personally do not have a lot of fun in this game and why I cared about Valorant in the first place.

I too, like you, started on Valo in the early days of the game. Not BETA but about halfway into year 1. Specifically around February 2021. I remember waking up daily trying to learn KBM and getting excoted to hear all the interactions between all the agents and seeing all the wacky ways you could use all the agents. I was there for the chamber meta, the viper meta, the Jett 2x updraft glitches, the Raze meta amongst others. And then suddnely it just fell off. I dont know how to describe it but it just became stale. One month the battlepass skins were absolute dogshit, then the lore stopped coming, then even longer to get cinematics and agent interactions within those cinematics, the music however has relatively stayed up. I'm partial to the champions 2021/2022 themes. Also all the community content, it just disappeared all of a sudden. I remember year 1 they made a trailer for all the cosplayers, the fan art, the sick plays but i never saw anything of that sort in year 2. Not to mention, the fact that they cater the game to the top 1% of the players is what really killed it for me. Meanwhile us the bottom 99% are the ones supporting it by logging in daily along with buying all the skins. The top 1% are either Pro players or content creators or many cases both, and they get the skins/battlepasses for free from the game devs as you mentioned in this video. The FUN in Valorant is just gone and I don't know how and if it'll ever come back.

i can relate to so much of this. fr the whole focus felt like it switched up, especially with all the layoffs at riot, its like they only care about profits and (like you said) that top 1% that promotes their skins and players in their pro scene. the rest of us are just numbers to them now

Because Valorant is a game made specifically for 5 trained professional players, no one cares what a below Immortal player has to say or even cares how he or she plays, it will always be like that. It is always about top 1-0.01% of players. If there were no streamers who stream this game on Twitch, this game would have been long gone by now. I managed to climb to Plat 3 one act being close to hitting Diamond, and tbh right now I want to hit it this new act but I am lowkey losing passion for the game at the moment and I just don't know anymore. Ranked is just stressful when you play solo que most of the time and take this game seriously, but then you get into que with people who just play ranked for fun and wanna throw your games out of nowhere.

@@naizy yeah in theory but you don't see silver/gold players' voices being heard. It's the IMMO/Radiants whom they take seriously for the most part. People in Bronze/Silver/Gold, one could argue even Plat, is where about 60-70% of the population is in terms of ranked play as per the ranked distribution (it's been a while since I've seen the chart so the numbers could be off now). That being said, as you said, it's not worth for some ranked pixels to deal with the toxicity/throwers/griefers etc. Not to mention, where's all the fun modes at. He mentioned that Snowball fight came in year 1, I remember playing that, that shit was fun af. And even if it was a seasonal thing, I wouldn't mind it but I've not seen it since year 1. Also if you really want to cater to the pro players then have the comp mode where all the balances and changes are done but leave Unrated or even Swiftplay untouched. You can argue that Unrated is where you can find teams to practice for your journey to comp so fine, make unrated the same as comp. But swiftplay, leave it overpowered and busted. 3 Jett smokes/Double Satchel Raze, 2TP Chamber etc etc. Like leave the "unbalanced" "F U N" stuff for a small game mode that way even the casuals can go screw around for a 10-15 minute match. There's no consequence to win or lose in Swiftplay anyway. That's my opinion, you're welcome to have your own. Edit: grammer

Totally agree on this. Agents that do standout are greatly nerfed to adjust to pro players. Makes it boring to play on rank modes or for us regular players

Recent omen one way nerfs were the final nail in the coffin for me. I know they were very strong and all but since launch its been a core part of his gameplay identity and now years of knowledge is useless. The abilities have always been what have made this game special but riot hates it when they actually feel strong to use

I played that game in beta and was so hyped even invited my friends to play it with. little did i know that Riot from a company that deserves all the appreciation it recceives is gonna come out to be a company that i can't stand. Both of their big projects,league and valorant are trying to compete with valve's dota and cs which is really REALLY stupid because they tempt to forget why people were so attached to these games - it was genuenly fun,not competitive. And in riot's games? No,you are unable to find fun. But that's just modern gaming - devs forgot that if you make a good fun game you'll have all the players - and having players is FAR MORE important than having their wallets

I have been playing Valorant consistently for the last 4 years. Since 2023, I stopped queuing solo because the experience was just not fun! I exclusively play cometitive and in 3 or 5 stack now. And it keeps you engaged IMO. So Valorant can still be fun with the right people, the point is it shouldn't have to rely just on that to be fun.

@@Fluskar what’s your point? this is an FPS type of game and people play it just for shooting and grinding, even for casual players. The only thing they can do for the long term benefit of the game are fixing bugs, balancing, update the seasons, skins, agents and improve the overall gameplay; and looking in reality, they’ve done pretty well compared to other games. and I dont think changing the rewards would make the game more enjoyable cause sure the rewards are really nice to get but the core of this game is to grinding to the highest rank as possible for the try hard ones or just having fun with friends for typical players, it is just the nature of competitive shooting game and you cant change pretty much about it.

Here's my opinion on why people think Valorant is dying, and I'll try to keep everything simple. RANKED: Smurfing and boosting problems. There has been many instances where people would just get destroyed by smurfs that are high above their skill level(s) in all elo, and vice versa where a boosted player in high elo are bringing their team down with their performance because they're used to having someone/ group of people doing everything for them and therefore couldn't cooperate well with their teammates when playing with randoms (There are bad games, yeah, but there's also instances where you spectate a player and ask yourself "how did they get to this rank") PLAYSTYLE: There are tons of people who play ranked "for fun" and just throws your game, and there's people who puts tons of effort into a single ranked game. This leads to burnout and stress for them. Riot has been generous with the anticheat and account banning/ punishing, but unfortunately as hard as they worked this through there's still people there who wants to throw your game just because. EVENTS: There are not much events going on (and by not much I mean there's no events hosted by the game/ riot itself other than VCT and other pro scenes). I'm sure many missed replication and snowball event. Even with the added map in tdm with the arcade machine it's just still boring. People have to make their own fun by playing 5 man team. With the recently added "Valorant Flashback", they expected people to play more which, in reality, are just there to keep people playing just to see how they perform throughout the year. SKINS: The only thing keeping this game from falling is just plainly skins, which are expensive and you couldn't even sell them like in csgo. Some of them are of limited time just to make the players spend money due to exclusivity. STATE OF THE GAME: Val is just doing okay, but with these problems (as all game has their own problems), these are some of the main big problems that are currently rampaging all over the elo. Ranked got boring, the same agents in ranked and the same map in a whole month, gambling teammates, etc. Pick your teammates: - Instalock no comm Reyna - Edater Jett and Sage - Team flashing Phoenix - "I'm saving my smokes" Clove - Running it down Sova & Gekko - Lurking duelists - Master baiter teammates - etc.

Dont forget about Radianite points that limit the amount you can upgrade the skin you already paid for. Forcing you to either buy the battle pass or spend a similar amount of money for the skins you just bought for 70+ dollars. Its never gonna change these are the same arguments since the beginning of the game but Riot genuinely doesn't care or cant because money money money.

They also never added a replay system which was a thing back in literally 1999 when the first iterations of Counter-Strike were still in development. They had more than 4 years to add a simple replay system which is a staple in every competitive shooter ever created. No replay system leads to not being able to analyze your matches correctly, leading to a plateau in player skill, leading to frustration, leading to burnout. A replay system would’ve singlehandedly kept Valorant as a mainstay tacfps if it was added a few years ago. The game is dead and no Jett can revive it.

this is exactly the reason why now i only play valorant with a stack 5, just to have fun with my friends. valorant starts very fun at first, but then out of sudden riot just stop bringing fun content into the game. now the only thing they have is just new bundles with overbudget, no new maps no new agents for a very long time. i used to have so much fun playing valorant alone before, but now, nah i will never play valorant alone anymore.

People used to spend that same amount of money on a triple A title, now on one bundle. The lack of content in Valorant compared to Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc. is so bad. I remember loading into Overwatch and hearing the Christmas music over the holidays with a nice menu...Valorant does nothing.

I played a game of Valorant the other day after over a year and I came back to a completely different game, I hated it. I used to enjoy the game so much especially with friends, but after that one game I really didn't feel like returning to playing it consistently which is sad, it used to be such a nice game.

My account was hacked for the second time, and despite providing all the proof I could to Riot's support team, they’ve outright refused to return it to me. Instead of offering a solution, Riot Support repeatedly closes my tickets, claiming it’s “to protect other players from being hacked.” If player security is truly the priority, why not improve your account security systems? Other companies, like Rockstar Games, have implemented robust measures to protect their players-why can’t Riot do the same? I’ve invested both my time and hard-earned money into this account. As a student, the amount I’ve spent might seem small to Riot, but it’s a lot for me. It feels like Riot doesn’t value its loyal players once they’ve made their purchases. What makes this even more frustrating is that Riot continues to roll out new skins every few weeks, and players buy them without realizing this kind of thing can happen to them. Is this how you treat your community? Permanently lock accounts without fair resolution? I hope Riot reconsiders its approach to account security and customer support. Players like me deserve better.

ever since the trailer i was mad excited about valorant. i still remember i bought two accounts (yeah i wasnt lucky enough to get the drops from twitch) for me and my friend. i had been playing csgo on and off for a few years at that point, and oh boy valorant seemed so so fresh! fast forward to covid days, when the game officially released with the original five characters! i mained Reyna and would always be the aggressor and played Raze as well. I remember me and my friends would have so much fun playing the game. I reached Platinum in the first season, but slowly as the new characters came along, and the complexities grew, I just got tired of it. honestly, the reason i keep going back to counter-strike is the simplicity. it was the first game i ever played when i was barely six years old. but as im getting older and busier, i barely have time to play games anymore, but yk watching your video made me reminisce a lot about the days i used to have fun with my mates. good times :)

You got people that play and watch the same sport that doesn't have a rule change for decades at a time and play it over and over, but people aren't looking for basketball 2.0 or whatever. If you don't like the game that much, don't play it, or take a break. Of course you are going to get tired of video games if you play constantly. I personally don't see what's so special about a gun skin. It's like changing the ball color of a sport. Doesn't change anything at all. We shouldn't be obsessing over these things. i see a lot of comments like these here. most people shut off after saying "just stop playing if you dont like it, just dont buy skins". I dont have a problem doing either. The POINT of the video is that unless WE AS A WHOLE change something about our spending habits, we will go down an even steeper decline of quality in games. Like honestly ask yourself: If you like Valorant, would you like to see new gamemodes like every 2 months? Modes that stay? Additions that fans have asked for since release like Replay system, etc.? Maybe even a singleplayer campaign where you actually get involved with characters? Or would you rather want a $60 skin in a store somewhere that you might or might not buy? For years, more and more analysts and business people have been taking control of the gaming industry with that EXACT tradeoff of TRANSACTIONS instead of CONTENT and "just not playing" or similar things have gotten us to the exact spot we are in now. I'm sure there are other ways games can make money, but it would be more annoying to the gamers, like advertisements on the side of lobby screens. Since Valorant is free, they're trying to make up for it with the sheer amount of money a bundle costs. It is possible that they could attempt a game mode rotation like Rocket League, but even that community isn't satisfied as Epic doesn't listen much to requests and got very hungry for money as well, so they rid of trading. I agree, the situation the community is given is very unfortunate. Personally, I think there are so many games out there that are free that it's sort of ridiculous to care so much about game mode rotation. Just opinion, I'm not saying you're wrong I'm right. There are just so many games that I can't understand how someone gets bored of them. Besides, there's so much you can do without internet, I mean the world lived with it for nearly it's entire existence. I say a lot of us gamers are chronically online and it's healthy to step aside from games. They don't need to always be perfect quality, I'm just happy they're up and running and I can have a good few nights with friends.

I have played path of exile for like an hour so wouldn't say Im super good, but I have played path of diablo mod in d2 so I'm pretty familiar with corruption mechanic and maps. It can be mildly infuriating since anything can pretty much one shot you, but it's super satisfying if you manage to loot something of value that help you progress. Also the skill tree is just... breathtaking. I paid for early access, if you can feel free to wait for the official release since I think it will be f2p.

This game has so many shortcomings: - There is no replay to watch the match again. - We have to tolerate harmful/cheating players until the end of the match. There is no kicking system. - The thing called skin is limited to weapons only. There are no player accessories and cosmetics either. - The market system is only about making Riot rich. There is no buying-selling-exchanging skins between players. - We don't have the chance to choose the map. - Cheaters, trolls and toxic people are running rampant in the game. There is no justice in the ban system. - There is no option to train by putting a bot in the game. - Even if Valorant wants Secure boot/TPM, it cannot completely prevent cheats.

For me personally a giant problem with most multiplayer games nowadays is the EXTREME entry barrier. It is simply demoralizing when you play your third or fourth match, expect to be matchmaked with similar newbies, and get absolutely destroyed the moment i step out of the corner. It feels like literally everybody in the game "knows" "how" to play it, and you don't, and the game does not teach you any of the "meta". The only multiplayer game i am able to play casually (i'm not even speaking of ranked modes in games) is Fortnite and i suspect that's only because i played it from it's early (C1S5 to be precise) days; i feel like if didn't have all these years of experience behind me i'd be losing just like in other games, with no way to "break through".

This is why I quit the game. I remember waking up to see my beta key and literally jumping for joy. Didn't quit the game for 2ish years, spent a few hundred on skins along the way. I remember hitting diamond after solo queuing and realizing I felt nothing. That gave me INSANE regret on how much time and money I spent on the game, before uninstalling I specifically remember going through the last year of patch notes and realizing NOTHING EVER CHANGED. Even though I'm a D1 Val hater these days, I still miss when agent nerfs and BUFFS were common, new gamemodes, actually getting excited about lore.

Also you cant rank up. I am an ex semi pro, radiant peak and quit playing for 6 months. I got placed ascendant 1 as everyone and lost a bunch of matches due to shitty teams. To this day i havent re hit radiant and some seasons i am even stuck in ascendant two and the very next im on i3 300rr again. Its just luck based and a time waste.

For me the saddest thing to see was the community changing so much. i've been playing this game since the beta for a very long time and noticed that at 2020/2021 the community was very unique, and felt like valo was less ment for the typical "gamer" the people you've met in those days seem to be all gone, if i have to believe my friendlist. in the past years i've seen the community becoming worse and worse. I feel that the unqiue community is just not there anymore, and now an days it just feels like you play over and over with the same type off people every game you join. prehaps it was because the game came around in the corona times so people who aren't really considered "gamers" were playing the game cause of the lockdown and the hype around it. and i also think the gameplay it self won't cut it for me anymore to stay playing, the game just became boring for me and i see no reason to keep grinding anymore or nor do i care about it.

Game literally has 0 problems other than not enough content being added. Skins is not a problem it's a way to keep game free 2 play, Skin prices aren't mad high either, if it was too low it would be unworthy and no one would want them that much, also u could buy 1-3 skins and be done for good cuz its few guns u constantly use thru the game not all of them. Bundles got Same skins over and over cuz first time buyers want to get vandal or phantom skin which is most important gun in the game no one wants stinger or spectre in bundle and theres no problem with it .

Yeah I agree too. It's just become so dull last 2 years. Most of the time agents gets nerfed this gives me dull feeling. I loved jett's instant dash and 2 jump, also reyna's 2 heal 2 dismiss and it felt fun maybe from tournament perspective it might be op but come on 99% of players playing game for fun. And they increased most agents ultimates cost(orb) so it's duller lol since you'll use ulti only once in 3 4(sometime even more) match. Also there's no map option(it was from the beginning like this but...) personally I love to play map that I want to play, maps chosen ramdomly and sometime somehow one map keep respawning that's so annoying . I've played this game when it's become open beta(or launched).

I've been feeling that something is very wrong with Valorant for the past months, but couldn't really put my finger on it. The gameplay quality felt even more horrible than it always was, the game felt completely dull and boring, and all matches were essentially the same (you mentioned it, smurfs + afks + trolls). And I think I now know why. You're right. For Riot, it's all about skins and esports (money) and not the actual soul of the game (ranked). They're giving us piss to drink on purpose lol, and they don't care, and the community doesn't care either. Take for example fortnite here the battlepass costs 950vb(8,99€) but if you complete it they give you 1400vb(4/5€more than you spent) and in valorant you buy the pass for 1000 vp and if you finish it you earn nothing instead of very ugly skins.

One of the main reasons I left Pubg mobile was cheaters, then I had no desire to go back to that game. I started Valorant. But yesterday something happened, it was like history repeated itself. I came across someone who registered to the game with a player name like "Riot - sleeping", and he had been playing for a long time + was using cheats. Moreover, he was using it without hiding it. He was using it by showing all his features openly until the end. He came to the opposing team. We directly pulled F5 in the 4th match. Indeed, in my eyes, Vanguard's entire reputation has vanished.

I hate that all Riot cares about is comp and VCT. In 2024 there was much more missing content, mainly because they announce everything at VCT. Usually there is 4 months gap between agents, but Clove was released in the middle of act - this one decision make the gap bigger by month, so 2 more months without new content. Right now Acts mainly exist to seperate Battlepasses from each other, in Episode 9 we didn't even got cinematic like we always used to. They really should add better reward system, or improve battlepass to be like Fortnite. They also could make more simple modes like 'no hero limits' or something like April Fools game mode, which would rotate between acts.
