I'm in the process of building up a MY 2022 V4 Tallboy CC frame as a downcountry bike with a 140/120 suspension set up. My frame does not have the glovebox. The weight of my build is coming in at 28.25 lbs for a size XL running carbon wheels with Maxxis Forekasters and a mostly Shimano XT drivetrain/brakes. Building it up with my own part selection has been key to keeping the weight low and reasonably priced at $4K (parts only). Sadly, I think Tallboy frames are getting heavier and heavier every year. Can't wait to see how it performs on the trails in 2024!

I have a 2022 Scott Spark 950, I really debated the Tallboy prior to buying it......I rode my friend's Tallboy 4 (AL R) and loved it, a lot smoother and seemed faster than my Spark even though it was sized up for me (L to XL). I'm not sure if it's just because of the size up or if it's indeed faster/smoother. I wish SC would have kept the Aluminum models.

If I were ever going to go back to a full suspension bike, this would be the one. As a 100% home mechanic, I shudder a bit when looking at the rear linkage in terms of maintenance. Lifetime bearings from SC are nice, but they don't press themselves in.... another great video!

In terms of that this is actually a bike where you don't need to worry. There are drawings and torque specs for every single bolt on the website. And on top Santa Cruz only built the bearrings into the Aluminium parts so no pressing them out of Carbon. And on top there is a grease nipple on the lower link. So looks complicated but its actually pretty easy. ;)

Strange this is 32pounds and the other v5 you reviewed was 30.5 in same spec

i think when he weighed it there was quite a bit of movement in the end, but also that may be with pedals? who knows?

i know its an xl...but wow thats heavy. for a 130/120 bike.

With that enormous downtube, it’s no wonder why it weighs 30+ pounds bikes are gaining weight
