How we can prevent the problem/summary
Oil dilution problems are increasing in engines with direct injection and unfortunately cause several serious faults in an engine. We will show some test methods that can be used to reveal an excessive petrol content in the oil, and how the phenomenon occurs. The test may be relevant at e.g. LSPI, wet belts, chain extensions, catalytic converter problems and faults related to lack of lubrication. In fact, we only wanted to find a good method to test whether the petrol amount in the engine oil was too large, but we found that there was a need to also explain what might cause excessive petrol in the oil. If you have more knowledge about the problem, please send it to us so we can share it with others in the automotive industry.

I recently did an oil analysis on my 2018 Honda CR-v and the oil was diluted 9.2% by volume with petrol. Bloody disgrace Honda.

Yes this plays an important role too indeed. However its not always possible to do anything about this. The main purpose about this video is to stress the importance about using a high quality oil and oil cleaner and change oil more frequent to avoid these problems.

@@dimmacommunication The problem starts because of soot on the piston oil rings. If you used oil cleaner (the right one) during oil change you would prevent the problem or at least delay it.

Hello, We are experimenting the problem with some of our small turbo engines vehicles which are driven very small distances and often won't reach out working temperature every day here. We have seen 1 to 2 cms over the max mark on the oil stick. We changed the oil but what about the fuel trims,are they going to readapt while we drive or should we use a scanner to correct them? Also, I have a question concerning the rings beeing partially stuck,which method or product could be use to have good results ? recommend to Thanks for getting back to me. Tigo

Its a problem that you should try and solve. First check if there are any specific TSBs for this engine so solve this problem. It wont harm to reset fuel trims when oil change has been done. If rings are stuck there is a chance you can loosen them with the right additive but you dont know if the rings are mechanical worn because of this untill its too late. So always discuss this with the customer before making any promises. Use a good additive from one of the big names. Please dont try and make your own experiments with this. Afterwards talk to the customer about the importance of using a good oil and oil cleaner every 10-15.000 km. Then I think the engine will be fine. There is nothing left you can do about it.

I smelled gasoline in the engine oil so sent a sample to the lab. The result is 3% gasoline in oil. During the film, a message appears on the screen that the smell of gasoline can be felt with the content of about 10%. How is it really?

Its difficult to say which percentage you can pick up the smell. Personally i have tried to smell contaminations with 2% and did not notice it. beside your nose it depends of oil temperature, crankcase ventilation, and perhaps surroundings. My mom's CLA 1.6 liter suffers from this BS of oil dilution,it's a chore. I have to extract oil and put new one... it had 7-8% dilution last time 🙄

Had oil changed, checked after 500 miles. You guessed it, over full on dipstick. I was told by the Honda dealership that the extended warranty I purchased at the time of our car purchase was a great thing to have. I'm under warranty until 2027 on my 2017 CR-V. Guess we should feel great knowing that nothing will be done to fix the dilution problem. Should have bought a Toyota.

@@larrycroft6819 Yeah the MB M270 engine has the same problem. I didn't bought the car it's just way cheaper to change oil often , I pay 6-7$ a quart/liter , even less depending on occasion. Not worth the trouble to sell the car , it takes me 30 minutes to do the job , dipstick extraction and there you go 😁

do not use sae20....:))...use only sae 30 or 40...and you should fix the issues for this engine

@@m109r If I recall correctly the car manual accepts this sae values...so this should not be a problem on the contrary
