It sounded like a lot of gaslighting from Doc tbh. The simple fact of him being the face of Twitch for a long time, and him acknowledging it, also implies that they would go to great lengths to both make sure they just don't toss him by the wayside after hyping him up so much. That Twitch let him go, despite knowing the optics of what letting him go would be (implying the severity); that he agreed to a settlement (even though he claims to be in the right); that he would quantify a "legal settlement" as a win (idk with him but winning is taking the lawsuit to it's maximum conclusion, not backing out halfway to settle); all these sound like gaslighting and trying to make things look better than they are.
@Ellingmint2 ай бұрын
He didn't settle with Twitch, Twitch settled with him. His suit concerned breach of contract for his termination, and rather than have their dirty laundry dragged out in the discovery process at trial Twitch made the decision to propose a settlement agreement where they'd pay him out at 100% of his remaining prior contract under the stipulation that almost everything related to the settlement is sealed under NDA. The former employee whistleblowers who kickstarted this whole controversy started making statements about sealed information and may have put Twitch in violation of that settlement agreement. In any case it sounds like legal paperwork is being filed so if this reaches trial everyone is going to get all the salacious info they can read when discovery drops.
@shilljonnyshill2 ай бұрын
From a legal perspective a settlement where you are paid out is a win if you receive restitution to the extent that you set out to achieve. In many cases it is much better for both parties because they both get to avoid admitting to any wrong doing. In this instance it definitely seems as though there was legal malfeasance on twitches part and morally bad things done by Doc that he wanted to be hidden.
@DNrSquar3d2 ай бұрын
@@shilljonnyshill this take. I don't get what the other guy was saying that "Twitch settled, not him" when fundamentally a settlement is BOTH parties coming to terms; if one party doesn't want to settle, settlement won't happen, period. Twitch definitely might have been in legal hot water, but that only adds to the weight of their decision to let go of Doc; they would definitely be aware of the possible legal baggage of such an approach, but deemed it worth the risk contrasted with what they probably found out re: Doc's bs.

I don't want to pretend I'm morally superior so I stay away from judging either side of the story. However, as far as I understand, Twitch possibly made a contract with Doc to compete against Mixer. When it was obvious that Mixer failed, Twitch had a multi-million dollar contract with Doc that didn't really serve any purpose anymore but cost them tons of money. So it's not totally unrealistic that Twitch tried to find reasons to terminate the contract so that they wouldn't have to pay millions of dollars to Doc. Again, I don't know if that's the case, but it's really not that far-fetched. It could be possible. From what I've gathered from Doc's response he probably instigated further legal action which prevents him from going further into detail. I don't think he was implying that Twitch had to make room for another couple big streamers, what he was saying without saying it was that they terminated his contract without paying him out, so they could rush and offer those 2 big streamers deals and have them back on their platform. Think about it, having a huge name come back and the hype and money it would generate, the advertisement and endorsements Twitch would get as well. At least that's how I understood that. Also, the part he mentioned about the streamer that was telling teenagers to send them snaps playing with themselves too and to sub to their OF was real. Twitch suspended them, but then after a cooldown period, offered them an exclusivity contract. I cannot remember her name, but a lot of these reaction video journalists or whatever you call them on youtube were covering it for like 2 weeks until the next clickbait topic came out and they moved on. The age of consent in the United States is between 16 and 18. I don't know where the action took place (state), but if the law allows it I don't see any problems with all this chaos, not least because the judge said he was innocent, meaning he doesn't have to bring anything to light if he doesn't want to. But since we're talking about Americans, it's more than likely that they want to hurt him. Because he was married, because he's over 30 and because he talked to a teenage girl. Imagine coming to Brazil and seeing how it is here, where adults date teenagers and everything is fine with me. But what's the point of him coming out and clarifying himself if people are driven by sentimentality. It's a waste of time coming back.

I recently saw a lot of people with the mindset "admitted guilty - is indeed guilty". But it does not work that way. Even if person admitted guilty, they actually can be completely innocent. Why then they did admit guilty? It can be done for various reasons: pressure from prosecutors or public, trying to cover real criminal, trying to resolve the issue asap, etc, etc. Admitting guilty is not a proof for a crime. Facts are. Regarding Doc's case: I do not care whenever he is guilty or not. Never watched him, never going to watch him. I have two thoughts about the case: 1. I found strange that during the whole case the parents or an adult trustee of that twitch user never appeared. Because if something illegal or inappropriate happened to a minor they are responsible for, they should appear. 2. If believing Doc, that twitch user did not have an intent to file a complaint about the situation. Given that, all parties involved do not have complaints about each other, so there is no victim. And no victims means no issue.

A guilty plea is just that, an admission of guilt, and involves an allocution before a judge of the elements of the crime. A "no contest" plea is not an admission of guilt, nor is it a denial of guilt. It is a recognition that a jury would likely find the defendant guilty based on the available evidence. Then there's the "Alford" plea, where a defendant claims innocence, but accepts that a jury would likely find them guilty. If someone is being railroaded by the system, they definitely have the opportunity to say so in open court, though some jurisdictions do not allow "no contest" or "Alford" pleas. Remember kids, never talk to cops without a lawyer.

Wait, are we supposed to listen to him now, when he says it wasn't technically a minor (by some legal definitions), or back when he said it *was* a minor? An older person talking to a younger person CAN be just business, but it was apparently not "just business" enough for a company (that was making money from having him on their platform) to risk exposing themselves to massive lawsuits and losing out on all that money to get rid of the guy. Oh, and again, he admitted to inappropriately texting a minor. Sure, it CAN be just business, but it *really* does not sound like that's all it was. @@ronnie0817 You aren't paying "plenty of attention", you're only paying enough attention to be a contrarian. He left twitch dude. They lost all the money he was generating them. What happened with other streamers and platforms is irrelevant. Oh yeah, and the game company THAT HE FOUNDED also looked into all this and saw enough to sever ties with him. They lost money too since he was basically their whole marketing strategy. Also, IN HIS OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT THIS he said the conversations "leaned too far in the direction of inappropriate". If you want to play semantics with that go ahead, but it sure sounds like more than "just business". "I know and hear people all the time refer to their 20 yr old as their adult child" isn't the argument you think it is either. First, it would make him talking to a minor even worse, and second, it still suggests you think its okay for a grown, married man near his 40s to be talking to a child. Peoples' brains continue to develop up until their mid 20s, and before that there are several ages at which society has deemed people old enough to be able to be responsible for certain things. There's not one single age that's "m0v3d FoR c0nVeNiEnCe". There are ages for movies, ages for driving, ages for renting cars, ages for buying controlled substances, ages for health insurance, ages for joining the military, and also, ages for romantic and sexual relationships. This might be confusing, but there are different rules for different things. See, a car can't groom a 16 year old that just got their license, but a full grown middle aged man can. So we have different rules for those things.

@@michaelcook7778 no I'm paying plenty of attention and not jumping on the he's guilty band wagon like yourself. So now it's he admitted it was borderline inappropriate? Also your age of consent argument validates my point. We have no idea what the conversation was about so the term inappropriate could be anything from fart jokes to nudes. Like I said we set a line of 18 is not a minor and we move it for convenience. Also like I said I don't agree with an older person talking to someone younger but I don't think everytime it happens it's inappropriate. And yes twitch looking for a reason to drop him and bring on ninja plays plenty into it especially if you want to talk money. They made millions more from ninja. Twitch and the courts even said it wasn't inappropriate. Plus even if the person was technically of legal consenting age but still considered a minor the parents could both press charges and sue him. Your entire age argument proves that we move the line of what an adult is. 18 I can go to war but can't drink. People also move the line for its fine for a 18 year old man to be with a near 40 year old woman. Your argument is not as good as you think you're just repeating the same thing you're hearing from the majority streamers and people who can't past what you've heard from others and are hung up on one word

@@ronnie0817 I'm not jumping on any bandwagon, man. I've barely listened to other content creator's takes because its mostly opinion and speculation. I haven't even stated a definite conclusion. All I've said are the facts that we know and what's likely and unlikely. One possibility (he did nothing wrong) remains, while another possibility (he did something inappropriate) also remains, and is more likely given what we know. I literally quoted his admission for you. He admitted to there being messages that "leaned too far in the direction of being inappropriate" with a minor--a term you still just seem motivated to willfully misunderstand. We don't move that line of adulthood for convenience. There are different lines for different things. Yeah, 18 is too young to drink or buy cigarettes, but old enough to join the military. Different lines for different things. I'm not sure why you don't want to understand that. We don't know what these inappropriate messages were about, yes, but it's pretty likely, given the fallout so far, that they were inappropriate in one particular way. Two companies set to profit off of him likely wouldn't react or overreact if all they talked about was buying a minor some cigarettes, for instance. When there is talk about an adult talking inappropriately with a minor, it's usually one thing in particular. Again, adults talking to minors is not inherently bad. But we know that, again, two companies making money off Dr Disrespect exposed themselves to lawsuits from him in order to get rid of him after looking into it. Slim chance there's nothing there. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE ADMITTED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING THERE. The fact that twitch had other streamers come back to them is still irrelevant. A corporate entity wants more money. That's it dude. The simple fact is whether they got other major streamers back or not, they would be making more money keeping Doc around. There's a difference between keeping an open mind before everything is known, and willfully ignoring likely scenarios to be a contrarian.
