First of all, Anthony is just a great interviewer - attentive and inquisitive. I loved Claudio’s childhood story because it’s similar to mine… except I ended up not doing music as a career, but I could have… I also had people who recognized my talents and made some money while in high school programming synths.

Claudio had one missing link when he started learning to play classical piano at the end of the 70s. This was the time before the following three albums had been made public. If he had access to those albums, it might have provided a bridge across the chasm between what he was being taught and where his passion was. *Bach-Handel 300* - Gratziano Mandozzi *BachBusters* - Don Dorsey *Beethoven or Bust* - Don Dorsey Those three records were done in the second half of the 80s using a combination of digital and analog synthesizers that had not yet become available when Claudio was still growing up. No Synclavier II, PPG Wave 2, Roland MKS-80, Oberheim, Xpander, Yamaha TX7 or TX-816. Even having one of those albums to hand would have probably made a world of difference. Because the only one of its type that had been made available around the world was Wendy Carlos’ *Switched-on Bach,* chances are that nobody knew additional records like it could continue to be made. What he says near the conclusion about wanting to build his own dream studio facility is easy for me to relate to. I’m from an upstate village called Washingtonville, and I’ve long had fantasies of turning the middle school I attended into a full grown music and art facility. I would turn the classrooms into recording facilities on the ground level, the gymnasium into an echo chamber, the cafeterias into commissaries and the upstairs into dedicated music education facilities. The auditorium, of course, would remain pretty much as it already is.

The media as a tool vs. the media as the business itself... Dr. Mix isn't alone in not having caught on the latter's opportunity in spite of having had it literally in his own hands: I have been connected to the Internet for more than thirty years and, as many information technology and networking geek, was totally blindsided by the media people who ate us alive. No regrets - surfed another wave !

One of my favourite things about The Doctor is that he inspires aspiration to improve as a musician. Anyone with a few hundred or a few thousand dollars can buy the same synthesizer that he showcases in his videos, but to make it sound good and do it in style requires skill and discipline. Dr. Mix shows how synthesizers are not just toys that go Bing bong but actual instruments of sonic magic.

The start of the interview reminds me of when I started, and people asked if I was tone deaf. My ears needed training, also because I had back then no idea about scales. After a month of six, while refusing to give up, something went pop in my head, and I started to hear if I was in tune or not. :)

So well, the only moment of true enlightment for me came after the fall of the berlin wall. You came across not only as a talented interviewer, but as someone who knows their stuff...and knows the business. Dr. Mix, of course, was very interesting and entertaining to listen to. Claudio is a very humble person. (With all respect to Anthony Marinelli) He doesn't need somebody at the level of 'Dr. Mix", like Anthony did to Dr.Mix 'pinging',.. to response personally right away when he can. I was amazed once, when he responsed to my comment in Facebook personally, and that was not a very important comment from me either actually, while I understand he is a very busy person. Great person.

Again, a very nice video. Very glad to discover Claudio more, thank you Antony. Strangely, Claudio and I had quite a similar beginning. I was in France, and I started with the same Bontempi organ, trying to reproduce the music I can hear on radio and TV. Then I also got a electronic Bontempi, around 10, the cheapest available, but at least 4-5 different sounds and a few rhythms. I wanted to study music, but the school in the small city I was living was too rigid: classical music only, no access to instruments, only theory and reading (yes, I also had the Hannon); I left after 2-3 years, very disappointed. The turning point that makes me getting interest on synths was Oxygene (JM Jarre) and Eye In The Sky by Alan Parsons Project. I sold the Bontempi for a Yamaha PS20, and I purchased my first synth a Yamaha CS01.. Later I worked during several summer to get enough money to purchase a DX7 (with the help of my parents). In 1985, this was THE synth everybody wanted to have. The small town I was living had a recording studio, and we recorded some ads for a local radio: I really loved it. I also got to program the VIC20 at school, and I started to study electronic to understand how synths work. But I was hooked by computers and decided to study and make my living with. Despite I played with multiple bands, and also recorded in studios (I now have my own), music is just a hobby.
