Really this whole issue just stems from what has been plaguing the manga since the beginning, the monthly schedule. This makes pacing worse for people and feel like a waiting game especially now since they acknowledge how close we are to the end of Z. I wish they would release 2 chapters a month or something

I really love Goten in it! Even though he hasn't done much, his small contributions have just been really good. And he's so much like Goku it's crazy. Like you look at him and see Goku even though he doesn't have his hair anymore. Over 25 years of following the series and I don't think Gohan ever really gave me that kind of feeling despite knowing and constantly hearing that he's Goku's son. I really hope Goten as well as Trunks continue to develop and grow. And not just as characters. I want them to be relevant and grow stronger and stronger so that they can contribute.

So I keep up with every chapter as they come out but then binge in after the arc is over and the pacing feels much better, I think the same will be said with this one. So I don't mind a few more chapters as long as we can get some more Goten and trunks screen time. Page time ? At least for me I'm not looking for it to ramp up mainly because then it just becomes super hero which I've already seen and honestly I'd rather them skip like they did with broly. Even tho I would like to see more orange piccolo and beast

I dont mind the arc for the most part. I also like the slice of life stuff. My main issue(s) stem from Super’s larger ongoing issue with characterisation. I felt Z (and even GT in regards to Trunks) did a better job in how the characters matured. Super I feel is influenced by a lot of other ongoing manga and anime stories. Character traits like Goku’s ignorance and / or naivety have been dialed up and more defining traits of the characters and it even comes into play more in actual serious conflicts. The stories feel less layered, being more simplified and the pacing is a bit inconsistent at times. IMO it doesnt spend enough time sitting with or setting up plot points, with characters at times explaining things through off hand exposition last minute so they can happen (the retcon to potaro) or (depending your version) forms that just happen but receive no acknowledgement (e.g. Trunks’ rage mode). Theres so much wasted opportunity for lore building and i think characters suffer within the simplified confines with which they have had imposed on them. Im not a fan of this Trunks so far. I suppose it kind of fits with his younger self and there is still more time for him to mature, but it felt unnecessary (and again another ‘Super-fying moment) having elements like ‘lol Trunks is useless with tech in contrast with other family members, (the irony). That just seems like another attempt to exaggerate character traits. I preferred that GT gave him a level of expertise in his own right. That he was arguably more, calm, mature and less prone to causing trouble. If there was a payoff in him growing ss part of a larger Super arc I wouldnt mind, but I feel that was more likely with Z than in Super. It feels like Goten and Trunks are still stuck with their roles as the ‘zany antics’ duo, and the movie also have me that impression.

Goku hasn't been childish in these last few arcs, you're basically talking about how he was in early Super. And about Trunks in GT, let's just remember, that was an adult version of him, so of course he was gonna be more mature. This Trunks is still a teenager and let's just relax so far on how he's portrayed. We've had like only two chapters and he could develop later in this arc.

What has happened is, we got one interesting chapter and then an okay chapter. And with the few months off the manga took and the cliffhangers that were given to us, it just feels slow. I’m sure if the next chapter isn’t very exciting or tease something amazing to happen in the chapter after it, people will be turned off by it and will just wait until it is finished or just hate it. We all want new stuff, but we don’t want it to be drawn out.

End of DBZ will be around September, just a guess, but I believe that Black Frieza is only after end of DBZ for the sole reason that Uub is the key to Fat Buu unlock the dorment power of Grand Supreme Kai and unlock the potencial of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Gohan like Older Kai did in DBZ on Buu Arc and that way have a better chance to fight Black Frieza... also I could add Broly but I don't think they want since the timelapse between end of Super Hero and after DBZ ending is small and Broly still didn't learned how to control his power, unlocking could give a negative impact for Broly at the time... This was kinda headcannon while typing...

The fans need to get over this whole 'goku n vegeta show' mentality. They are the most enjoyable to watch because they are the strongest and fherefore have the most exciting battles. I personally love the fact that it's GoKu and Vegeta Centric. No problem with a bit of goten and Trunks but too little too late. They should of sprinkled in their stories ages ago throughput exciting arcs. Not give us a whole arc revolving around characters we don't even care about

I have the opposite opinion. The slice of life stuff from Super were hardest parts for me to get through precisely because they took me back to that little great saiyaman interlude period before the Buu arc started properly. Why would I want to watch relationship drama with some random dude trying to steal Videl away from Gohan in my Dragon Ball? *Snoooooore* Where are the planets blowing up? Where are the explosions? My long ass battles to the death? The big villains and their misfit minions? The new crazy techniques and transformations? That's the stuff I care about when I watch or read modern Dragon Ball. When Dragon Ball first started with the Pilaf and World Tournament arcs there wasn't much fighting either, but at least the comedy and adventure stuff, which was the meat of the manga for the first few chapters, was really, really funny. Yes, it was mostly crass 80s humor that wouldn't fly nowadays, but at least it was a lot more entertaining than watching Gohan deal with his little love triangle in high school like it's some dorama. Last time they tried to slow down the Dragon Ball formula too much and make the fighting less of a focus we ended up with GT's first arc, let's hope that this time Toriyama will pull through. Not really happy to see the dancing para paras show up, or anything similar.

Honestly, hearing you talk about it like this seems that all there could possibly be for the future of this franchise is either more training or new forms. And as much as I appreciate new forms, probably more than the average person, I don't want it to be just that. (I mean how many years did Goku and Vegeta train now in Super in some version of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber? It gets old and there is just so much you can do....) I want a bit more of Toriyama brilliance, surprise us out of left field that we didn't expect. Like Some technique, some places, perhaps some new fighters, too (god I miss Jiren 😅😭) or just new concepts like the multiverse and Angels and Gods of Destruction.... I think that would be cool. Still wanna live to see SS Green or SS5 though.... Like it has to be officially called like that. Vegeta in Broly or Beast Gohan don't count.

I think we need to give arc some time and more of a full body of work to see where this goes. It's kinda hard for me to have a criticism two chapters end after the last chapter hints at gamma 1 and gamma 2 are gonna be developed because of how trunks and gotten were as the Saitama 1 and 2 and the 💿 with cell max info so I just would like to see where it goes. I'm sure the story will round into form

Those are some great points and good reason why people have little interest in this arc, but overall, I actually really like the pre-SuperHero mini arc. The only thing I'm disappointed in is Trunks's character, or lack thereof. However, I do think that Toyotaro/Toriyama are hyping up Trunks and Goten since they could be made relevant again if they decide to focus on them a little more during, say, a post-SuperHero arc if they decide to do that. We'll get to see great progression from both Goten, but especially more so with Trunks, maybe not on par with Future Trunks since he's an entirely different character under different circumstances, but for them being the archetypal Western super hero type of characters. Now, I'd like to see them fuse into Gotenks at some point, but would prefer Toriyama to focus more on Goten AND Trunks as opposed to just this singular entity that is Gotenks as we have seen far too many times. But anyway, I digress, really liking the story so far and we shall see how the next few chapters turn out!

I like action, if I wanted slice of life, I'd be watching a slice of life anime. I want to know what's going on with Freeza, with the other universes, with the top 5 strongest, with the angel laws, with the god who created the super dragon balls...

I'm kinda mixed on this arc. On the one hand its so refreshing to focus on characters that aren't Goku and Vegeta, though at the same time knowing how Super Hero ends, this arc lacks any real mystery and is more a fun slice of life arc, which isn't bad and is almost a bit like both OG Dragon Ball and also Gohan's school years. Had this arc been done before Super Hero's release, there'd probably be loads more interest in it. Sadly if this arc doesn't do well then we can probably expect a return to the same old Goku & Vegeta show formula, and there are many fans who'd prefer that, but not me, I'd prefer a double story, Gohan and co on Earth doing their thing, while Goku and Vegeta are off doing something else. Also getting to the End Of Z is super important.

i feel like Goten and Trunks could help db to expand the lore of u6 sayans: they could go on Sadala planet and training with Kale, Caulifla and Cabba. Trunks and Goten also knows the god ritual so they could potentially elevate all the sayans to ssgod level and then they could involve Goku , Vegeta and Broly.

Giving all these characters new forms - MUI Goku, UE Vegeta, Broly being canon, Orange Piccolo, Beast Gohan, teasing a possible Cell comeback with Cell Max (Imma explain it further down), teasing Uub's bigger role in the future, etc, leads me to believe that the Black Freeza battle is not going to be just a battle, but an entire arc or maybe a movie of epic proportions with some major fights. Since they have Cell's code on that disk from the latest chapter they can technically bring him back using Capsule Corp tech, this time smarter of course. He's the only major DBZ villain that hasn't been brought back into the story. Piccolo became good, Vegeta became good, Boo became good, Freeza although not good he's alive again and the only one left is Cell. What follows after this movie manga recap is going to be epic for sure.

This arc seems unnecessary. It seems like Great Saiyaman all over without much development and they are making Trunks seem like he isn't as capable as he should be. I feel like it shouldn't have gone on as long as it has and we should have like a tournament or something else that's actually interesting. Why choose to focus on those characters now when we know for a fact they can't compete with about 20 other characters in the series. I would rather see them focus on 10 chapters with Majin Boo and Mr. Satan than this high school nonsense.

Dragonball is big enough that there can be multiple Mangas. Just like Marvel and DC have comics following characters like Batman then there are dedicated comics just for Nightwing and Robin(s) I don't see why we can't have separate stories. Would be cool to have issues just for Goku and Vegeta (and maybe include Broly to form a trio), then for Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten, and I'd really like to see a Z fighters story where it is light hearted with Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, and Roshi where they handle "minor" level threats. Releasing issues week after week will give more content and they can team up at the climax for each story like they usually do anyways.

Meanwhile Screen Rant are reporting the problems with this Arc is it's love-triangle between, Trunks, Mai and Goten... They're reporting it's Goten in the Saiayman X-1 suit who saved Mai at the end of the chapter! Though there is that one frame in the chapter where Goten is very clearly wearing a number 1 on his belt buckle (page 41). Perhaps that confused them?

I mean that’s how it ALWAYS is with manga,the difference here is that the DBS manga started as just a commercial for the anime and as time passed it became the main thing,the reason the anime ended after the ToP is because they wanted the manga to pass it and probably so they won’t have too many differences like the Zamasu and ToP arcs

First, the entirety of _Dragon Ball Super_ takes place before the events of (and the day before) the 28th _Tenka'ichi Budōkai,_ so we know everything will be alright, especially since Toyotarō said he plans to direct _Super_ into the original _Dragon Ball Z_ ending. Now, the Super Hero arc of the manga will retell the events of _Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero_ after telling events chronologically prior to the movie. We know everyone will be alright by the retelling of _Super Hero,_ and we know everyone will be alright by the 28th _Tenka'ichi Budōkai._ I just hope this arc can truly do something unique in its retelling of _Super Hero_ or else it'll be a complete manga version of the _Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero_ anime comic.

In my opinion characters associated with being a saiyan achieve a newer and stronger form as they develop in character. It’s cool seeing them grow up height-wise, but what do they gain in the process? It’s like they was just thrown in out of the blue with no foreshadowing of them gaining a new form/power up, so why should I even care or read it? I rather wait to see how the manga is going to portray Orange Piccolo and Beast Gohan than read this slice of life that won’t lead to them developing a new form/super move or gain some type of relevance.

i personally think that the problem is how slow the filler feels in the manga,in the anime you can have some episodes but you get them in a week and like after some of them you get back to the action,meanwhile here you need to wait who knows how many months to get back to the stuff thats the thing,letting readers with black freeza and going here feels like a bad move in my opinion who knows how is this going to end but i also feel that people arent that insterested because its based on a movie we already see,maybe the new anime or movie would come before this arc ends if they take their time

I don't know man. If they do this prequel bfr they show the Super Hero movie, maybe people will be excited to know what the story are, and super excited how Trunks and Goten will do in this Arc. However, since the movie already released DVD and Bluray, and honestly for me this movie just a mid level just like ROF, I don't care much about the prequel story since I already know the movie plot. And don't care much the story of creation of Duo Androids. And I one of those fans that doesn't care much about this Arc. And because if this wrong strategy, I believe they(Toei or whoever in charge) will blame fans don't like story about others like Goten & Trunks because the manga might be flop. No. Its because they already know the main plot & its not because of replacing GokuVegeta with Goten and Trunks.

I don't think so. It's just not the strongest thing. And it's a slow start but it could and should pick up I feel. And I think every arc in Dragon Ball Super is at a slow start at least for the first three chapters. But there should be a hook to keep people really invested.

The arc is good and it's nice to some much-needed development from these characters. I hate it when dragon ball writes in characters and pretty much tosses them aside like they never existed or leaves their character arcs underdeveloped. Also, glad to see a break from Goku and Vegeta. I love them but it was getting too redundant. Especially with Moro and Granolah arcs having them take center stage, especially Granolah.

As an older fan, this arc just feels like it's going through the motions. I'm happy Goten and Trunks are developing more, but I'm just not gripped like I was with Gohan's rise to adulthood back then. Nothing interesting is happening to change my mind either. Plus. Mai and Trunks is still hella gross, and I'm tired of watching that go down. To rephrase. This arc doesn't feel important.

I usually agree with your views, but we're on opposite ends on this one! It's much too early to be making calls on the narrative just yet. But in my opinion. This is what the movie Superhero should have been. This arc takes super hero troupes and plays with them in a mostly unironic sense for the first time in this universe, and its refreshing! The film as it stands has little to nothing at all to do with superheroes, aside from its title and some few shots for the trailer. Great saiyaman could have been redeemed. But they only thought of this superhero story AFTER the fact.

This has contributed to the overall stagnation of action manga and anime, since viewers have all been conditioned to view a series from a certain aspect. Why on the Mecha side of things, Witch from Mercury has been a series of growing pains for new and old Gundam fans alike since we've never seen a show like that before, where the smartest of a school falls for the class clown with hidden potential. I think that's what Toytaro is going for here but this is not his strong suit.
