As a nanny myself for b/g twin infants with a preschool aged sibling, i cannot express enough the need to find the right fit/connection with a family and the children. I've been with this family for just about the whole first year of the babies life and both me and the parents cannot imagine life without each other in it, and that's what makes this job for me. So glad you found the perfect fit. 🥰

Yes!! I’ve been with my nanny family for going on 8 years. It’s so amazing and at this point we don’t even have to communicate about 80% of the day/plans.
@lumday10632 жыл бұрын
@jn4756 I've had wrong fits before. On both sides. I've talked about families and why the match didn't work to others and I'm sure the families have done the same. She didn't say anything bad or degrading about her. In fact, she made sure multiple times to speak highly upon her. She didn't use names or anything, so no, as a professional career nanny, I found her description to be perfectly fine and understandable.
@lumday10632 жыл бұрын
@skarbiewell4003 Colleen mentioned multiple times that the nanny didn't do anything wrong. She was describing why it wasn't a good fit. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, as a career nanny myself. I've had jobs not work out on both ends before and can be empathetic towards both sides. Colleen mentioned she was desperate to get Flynn to like her, not that she was desperate for the job.

I think you did the right think trying to get Flynn used to the babysitter. It's okay that it didn't work out in the end but it's good to teach him to give everybody a chance and not put too much weight on first impressions. And also a good opportunity to learn to be civil and work with people you don't necessarily like, because there will certainly be times in his life where he has to get along with people he isn't fond of.

My family uses the phrase PINEAPPLE TIME as a safe word when you’ve had too much family time and just need a break. I think it’s helpful if kids have a word that allows them to express they want alone time but they aren’t mad or upset and just need down time. We even used the phrase when the adults went to Cancun on a vacation with no kids - it really works as a good word especially in big families!
@theaniacz2 жыл бұрын
Omg my friends therapist has her family and friends use the word pineapple if her ocd makes her talk too much about a specific thing or be stuck in a loop and situations like that. Basically to break the loop or point she needs a break/ take a breath, or needs space. But now it’s used by her close ones to each other too, I think it’s such a sweet way of noticing boundaries and communicating. I wonder if it’s a thing in psychology or just a coincidence it’s the same word 😅 probably coincidence hahah 🥰

I hope this message is received as it is intended and I don’t know what your real home life looks like, but you appear really accommodating of your children which is lovely but as kids get older and get to school, they need to have resilience. They need to know that sometimes the answer will be no. As a teacher, I have 25 little people to support and so I cannot meet every want of every student all the time. I worry that if Flynn is fearful of an adult because they didn’t do exactly what he wanted, when he wanted, then he will have a difficult start to school. If you are home schooling he will still need to learn how to work with others in later life.

As a full time babysitter, there are just some kids you simply don’t like, or they don’t like you. Just like as a human there are people you don’t like. I’ve been with my babysitting agency for 8 months now and there are some kids I’ve watched once or twice and it just didn’t work out, and there are others I’ve met and we click immediately and I’m with them all the time! Its important for the families and the sitters to figure out, what works, what doesn’t, and accept that sometimes it just isn’t meant to be. Learning that has been the main thing that keeps me sane in this career moment.

So, what you can do is put something thicker maybe in the cup like apple sauce, anything that youd like so that they can get used to how much comes out of the straw and how they should use it. I currently nanny and went through a kind of career aspirations shift from teaching to something more intimate because being a Nanny definitely fulfills my purpose! It’s so rewarding watching their accomplishments and providing them such a happy healthy bond with someone who is not technically family! I have 3 families now but the first- they’re my second family 100%! Sometimes it’s one of those jobs that gets written off as “playing with kids all day” instead of something you put so much time and effort into but knowing you had a love for it and appreciate it now again as a mother on the other side is so awesome!

Sometimes tho you need to let them cry especially when they get mad or upset it will teach them to not always get babied . Working at a daycare j have learned that. I Used to go over whenever a baby would cry but my coworker said to not go over right that second to let them figure it out. Same thing with when they get hurt try not to react scared because it will freak them more out if your freaked out .Just some advice

I think feelings can be confusing for young children, so the fact Flynn understands and is able to verbalise how he feels is fantastic, and a parenting credit to both of you 👏🏻 I know how Flynn feels about crowds, and needing space, because I'm like that too. I'm on the spectrum, and find change difficult, to many people stress me out, I don't like people touching me, and I'm brutally honest.

I love how she mentioned the fundraiser on her KZbin channel (I’m guessing her Colleen main channel) even though this is also a KZbin channel. I mention this because it feels more like facetime or talking to a friend rather than a KZbin video. Love you Colleen you got this and you’re a strong great mom

Parasocial interaction refers to a kind of psychological relationship experienced by an audience in their mediated encounters with performers in the mass media, particularly on television and on online platforms. Not Friends.

Hey I know why homeroom is a thing!Colleen I just listened to the podcast and I know why schools have homeroom. It’s mostly to extend the attendance period to make sure attendance is correct. Even though school starts at 7:45 you’d be shocked how many people come 10-15 minutes after that. I am a teacher and I update my original attendance because so many kids come in late. So they make them go to a room where the teacher’s only responsibility is to take attendance (it’s easy to forget) and that the attendance taken is the most accurate. Love you!

Homerooms where I’m from are mainly in middle & HS to serve as ur home base for only certain occasions (no an everyday thing) such as those 1st days of school to get ur schedule, when a whole grade has to take those standard tests, any time we needed the whole school to vote for something so they knew there were no repeats (homecoming/prom voting), sometimes they did serve as filler time for other non related things that had to do with a class subject. Never served as the home base for attendance taking, cause every period/class u went to, ur teacher is going take attendance anyway. So they are pretty necessary for big schools!

i think you should definitely cut your bangs! if you dont like them, you can always pin them back or even hide them, but i really liked the curtain bangs you used to have! they looked really good, especially with curly hair.

Oh my god! I’m glad I’m not the only one who hears babies crying when in the shower! It happens all the time!

Colleen! every time your babies cry they know youre gonna pick them up. sometimes you might have to not do it, as much as it may pain you, they know you will answer every time! maybe if you make the play space a more happy place and experience, rewards and stuff, and not answering every time they cry in it!

You NEVER should’ve shared this about the babysitter !!! It’s not her fault and not yours - but this will give her a complex and *you are responsible for this now.* It’s your adult responsibility to maintain some basic level of privacy. You should expect it from people you associate with and they should be able to expect it from you. You even gave the vlog this title. Can you imagine how’d you’d felt when this was your occupation ??

I am just going to get sappy for a sec and say that being in my first trimester and miserable (yay all day morning sickness and exhaustion) that these videos are one of the few joys in my life right now. I remember watching the vlogs of you and Eric dating and now to see this family growing makes me so happy. So I am just gonna continue laying in my bed with hot chocolate and graham crackers and my hormones while watching Colleen and this beautiful family. Okay sappiness is done.
