Going back to shower trap, I find most problems i have is the quality of goods fitted, we can all make a mistake, but invariably it’s the quality of materials.

I’ve had the same call back on 3 separate jobs over the last few years- radiator leaking from where the tails screw into the rad. I’m a chippy, seems to be the one thing I fgck up too regularly, draining down at 8:00 pm to tighten garage conversion rad tail. Using that blue gunk now, seems pukka.

Put more wraps of tape on its thinner now
@benchippy80393 күн бұрын
@ yeah i don’t skimp on anything now. Not only does it make me look stupid but having to go back while I’m having my tea to drain down and re fit a rad is not the one!

Rapid blu is really good, tried and tested over 3 years now, I’ve had 1 leak only was my fault to be honest, didn’t leave it long enough

@ that’s good to know, u probably fit more rads in a couple weeks than I do a year. Dunno why but type in carpenter in my area and i come up near top yet all I seen to get is bathrooms- go figure ❔

Can someone explain to me why jet lube brush is 1.5” shorter than bottom of the can!???
@nicholascarter26404 күн бұрын
Same as brush on solvent weld adhesive, only get about half of it out
@benchippy80394 күн бұрын

@benchippy80393 күн бұрын
@@theorgazoid4918 that’s kinda obvious now you mention it. I’m a chippy by trade. The plumbing just comes in from fitting kitchens and the skills are often transferable- the years of experience however are not!!!

Final job, might the fact you converted over to a pressurised system possibly now 'blown' a shoddy joint in the older pipework? Obviously nothing you can guarantee against unless you renewed all pipework.
@ianthomas7395 күн бұрын
You're right, I fitted a PS conversion but later in the week it was losing pressure. Eventually I isolated a leak somewhere beneath a concrete then tiled 25ft kitchen floor. Told customer I would have to excavate floor to fix the leak but she said she wouldn't pay for that and also wanted me to pay for new tiles as she considered it to be my fault ? !!. What would you have said to this request / demand ?
@s.wilson56755 күн бұрын
@@ianthomas739 I'm not in the trade mate but if I was the one that 'sold' her the idea then I should have pre-warned her about the unexpected. If she'd just cold called me to get a quote and fit it, that's more down to her but I'd have still warned her. Directly NOT your fault, so refuse to do the job and most she'll do is chase you through small claims court for the cost of someone else to put right. Be interesting to see the outcome. If you're feeling generous though, rather than dig up the floor, offer to re-route the pipes another way if possible.
@gunsey8764 күн бұрын
On a powerflush or system conversion I send over a disclaimer along with the quote explaining the associated risks and if any should occur further costs will apply to rectify, CP Utilities was nice enough to send me his template 👌
@s.wilson56754 күн бұрын
@@gunsey876 I would have thought that was standard protocol. Thanks for sharing.
@ianthomas7394 күн бұрын
@@s.wilson5675 Thanks , I finished up doing exactly what you suggested - re routed pipework under cabinets and skirting. I did tell her the existing pipework could potentially not handle the increased pressure but no problem initially but then if any major work / damage caused who pays ? Should have made her aware so my fault. All ended well and customer was happy. no charge as I only spent a couple of hours and 3 mtrs copper to fix. Next time !

The last one with the leak get yourself a cheap bottle of aftershave the smellier the better pour it into the Magna cleanse and then go chasing the smell you'll find it a lot quicker with your nose
