Wow, I can relate in so many ways! delicious guava, guard dogs ( mbwa kali), cultural taboos, relationship with neighbors, Petty thieves and so much more. Living in Canada has costed us so much money trying to protect our properties. In one property we have built the fence twice because all the posts and barbed wires have been stolen. And imagine this property is on the road. On another property we we build a fence and within 2 weeks the berbed wire was cut so that they can be feeding their animals in our land.

As a child, i loved to breach muhindi properties to get to the delicious fruit trees growing on their property, braving even mbwa kali. So lets remember to plant some fruit trees outside property walls for the passers by 😊. Nairobi has always been a concrete jungle.

Forging good relationships with neighbors is very crucial. My parents built a big house, now they've passed on, but my brothers can't live in that house, they have to build theirs. I live in Europe and not very traditional, why can't any of them just live in there? Would you be so kind as to share your thoughts on this matter why and how Luos or other tribes do this? Looking forward to watching your videos, very insightful and You're a good storyteller. I can listen to you all day 😊

Its a big problem to deal with these outdated cultures. I encountered the same problem but believe me, I went against thst grain as a Luo man and been living in the house for more than 10 years. Its a mind set problem. Exposure helps us to look at things holistically. Otherwise it's a complete waste of resources. It makes no sense whatsoever.

thank you very much! These are just cultural norms that we have used for generations...Grown men are not allowed to sleep in their parents houses..perhaps to encourage independence

it is a mindset issue!

I am Nigerian and I agree that the most dangerous issue in the village is targeted crime!! One is targeted by relatives or other villagers who know you are coming from the West and are after you for your money . In places like Nigeria , Jamaica and even Pakistan there is a big issue with kidnapping for ransom!! A comment I read mentioned that her brothers are not able to live in their late parents house .Is that due to some cultural issues that you cannot live in your parents house ?

Yes, and no. I and the narrator we come from the same tribe. The grandkids can live ( inherit) the grandparents home/ house , but not his brothers. Our people are still very conservative ( rigid) when it comes to culture and traditions.
