I just love the change of narrative from what you normally encounter in music. To the ones who don't know what this song is about, the POV is a woman watching her friend stay with a man who abuses her. And nothing she says can get through to Delilah. It's the narrators building frustration and then ends on hey I'm still here for you Delilah.

Isn't it refreshing to hear a female singer not even influenced by Mazzy Gray, Amy Winehouse? Life was better then
@abelincolnlover24706 жыл бұрын
Didn't know who Lene Lovich was before this. Thought it was awful the first time I listened.... then I couldn't get it out of my head. Now I love this version of the song! Her over-expressions fit the character of Delilah I have in my head... not quite taking the situation seriously, whereas Amanda's character is fed up and tired of Delilah never actually listening to her words. I have a friend just like Delilah. She never listens to anything I tell her about her horrible relationships, even after I explicitly said to her, "I know you aren't listening to a word I'm saying." It's hard to deal with a person like that, and the two of them portray that interaction perfectly!
@heathernissaragonese97874 жыл бұрын
Consider speaking to your friend from her perspective in a way that encourages rather than pointing out her flawed choices. Paint a picture of what will be if she demands certain attributes and treatment in her interactions from her relationships. She sounds like a stubborn dreamer lacking the much needed tool of self worth to powerfully achieve her goals. By encouraging her you keep her listening. Let her feel comfortable admitting her mistakes so she is the one in control of her decisions otherwise you take the role of authoritarian nag that she defies. Speak your mind still and voice your concerns, just do it in a way that leaves you being a trusted, respected confidante that is empowering and reminds her of her worth. Self worth is best strengthened by knowing your self and creating healthy boundaries. Also, please be compassionate and lead by example. She is blessed to have someone care so much though sometimes we plant seeds and hopefully someone else will contribute the other necessary rain 🌞.

@@heathernissaragonese9787 thank you for your reply! This friend, B, and I have sort of fallen out of contact over the past two years, but only because of different life directions and not because of any sort of disagreement. We met back up briefly when we graduated college and she seemed to have grown a lot. Back when B and I were close(r), I had tried every approach in the book, including the method you described. Nothing worked, and for a while after we parted ways she seemed to fall a little deeper into her mistakes. I reached out a few times after I heard of some of the nastier incidents, but mostly just to offer support than advice. I've seen several friends of hers fill in the gap that I left, but like me they come and go as they realized she was unfortunately stubborn in her ways. However, like I said she seems to be doing much better. I don't hear much about any of those incidents anymore, which makes me think she's grown and, for lack of a better word, matured. I think her biggest problem was that she had a stifled youth and so once she got the independence of college, she couldn't find her limits fast enough. It was sad to watch her fall and hurt herself so much, but luckily nothing seriously awful happened to her.

I'm a huge Lene Lovich fan from her heydey, but didn't know anything about TDD until I checked this clip out .... Love this song now, and I think the combination with TDD and Lene works brilliantly here ... great stuff, and thanks for posting ... Wayne

I definitely agree with you that many younger people are probably not aware of the ground-breaking artists like Lene Lovich who influenced the performers of today. However, I think you have to give a bit of credit to Amanda / TDD for coming up with this great song ...It's one thing to be influenced by previous artists and to some extent copy their style ... but you still have to be good enough to write your own material ... Lene is the Queen, but I'll give TDD thumbs up for this effort ...Wayne

"Ripped off" is a bit too much, don't you think? They are both odd lady singers who wear black, but they have different vocal and musical styles, Lene Lovich being slightly skewed towards synth music, often with that sort of jumpy-sound, and while Amanda is not acoustic, she always plays a piano-sounding thing and goes between this style and a sort of cabaret post-punk. Yes, I can see the influence, but I still think they're quite different.
